    especially if it makes the code unreadable. Give me the verbose, easy to read code any time. If you really, really want succinctness, use Perl or even better, APL and don't worry about the next poor slob who has to maintain your code.

    They usually will send us, even if the location is exotic (like a cruise) as long as there is some smidgen of learning involved. It is one of the perks of working for a good company...

    I was able to get my company to send me on the Java Jam cruise since its cost was 1/2 the price of JavaOne. If a company does not want to train me and is too cheap to send em to conferences, then to hell with them. I will leave the company for greener pastures. Vote with your feet people; do not let the bean counters ruin you work. There are better companies out there.

    I went to an Ivy League school, and we actually had a professional astronomer visit and beg us not to try to get a job in the field! There are NO jobs in the field, at least paying jobs.

    It was the C++ re-write that screwed Mozilla/Netscape. C++ is the worst language that ever had widespread adoption as far as productivity.

    Nobody wants to talk about the real reason krill is vanishing and krill-eating penguins and other animals are starving...it is because of commercial fishing for krill. The whole ecosystem is being destroyed and everyone wants to blame climate or ice when it is just plain old greed. It should be illegal to harvest krill.
