    Considering that 95% of the installations of Windows 2000 are made up of CDR burned pirated copies, you can have a CD of it for less than a dollar. Here is what I found in less than a minute on IRC:

    Whenever I have a hardware problem, I just upgrade to the latest Microsoft Windows platform, hoping that the autodetect plug and play will fix it. This is much cheaper and requires less thinking than actually finding out whats wrong and/or installing the correct drivers which can be found on the manufacturer's web site.

    Windows2000 == computer technician in a box!

    How does Microsoft make money from Internet Explorer?

    1) Well, once they eradicate the competition (netscape,mozilla) by changing the standard to MS-HTML, then they can charge extra for IE.

    2) By tying the browser to Windows, people who use Windows see Microsoft == The Internet. This image is what helps Microsoft sell more product.

    3) By tying the browser to the OS, they increase the perceived value of the OS, simply by adding a "free" product on to it. Of course if you check the cost of windows since Windows 95 to the present, the extra features and browser sure as hell isn't free.

    About the security problems.. unclick the checkbox that allows sites to identify me, its checked by default.
    Run MP7 and run a sniffer on incoming and outgoing traffic. Any erronious ip's that show up that arent what you're connecting to intentionally, use ipchains to nuke. Its awesome seeing the trojan programs being DENIED and LOGGED.
    Sniffers are fucking cool, just for interests sake, run Ethereal next time you start up Netscape 4.7x

    3. See #1 (by the way, have you ever tried to write a web page for IE, then with Netscape? Netscape makes life really, really hard. And it displays them better, too. Mozilla displays them as well as IE, however. Almost.)

    Like $75 for Internet Explorer.
    Like $25 addon for Outlook Express.
    How about $89 for Fat32 support as an addon.
    Or $3000 for the operating system.

    While that certainly is an option, this is about preference. I, for example, prefer to use Linux, I prefer to not have to pay $400 for Windows 2000 (in Canada).

    Unless of course you prefer to send me a free Windows 2000 CD with license, I might test out your suggestion, until then, I cannot, and will not give Microsoft a god damn dime.

    Linux was running in full 32 bit mode on 386 and 486 processors while MessDOS and Windows3 was crashing in its single-user-only glory.
    Innovate? Fuck that, Win9x is still 16bit and NT is still single user.

    Any chance of making scripts for 2.4/iptables? I know a long time ago it was announced you were working on it, but it has since disappeared from the site. I would like somewhere easy to start on the 2.4 firewall without having to use the ipchains-kludge included in 2.4

    I have an old version of your scripts modified heavily to suit my needs on the 2.2 firewall, thanks!

    You can install the "personal web server" which is a cut down version of IIS4. Only problem is that when more than 3 or so connections occur, anything over and above get an error message saying that the web server isnt licensed for more connections, try again later =]

    Of course people could break their EULA and try Apache for Win32.

    Isn't that what DirectX is?
    That fat DirectX guy who is now rich and fired (consulting last I heard), who started DirectX, I think his name was something St John, claimed that 95% of DirectX was just to get the OS out of the way for games.

    My god don't bring back any version of DOS. You can strip down the kernel to provide just the basics, and without those retarded 32 bit wrappers that all those DOS games needed.

    Last time I checked, Netscape and Mozilla do not offer to modify your partitions. When IE4 Preview came out, a person I knew was running Win95a, and it asked him if he wanted "Large Disk Support". He said yes.

    I can only assume this was a beta of thier Fat16->Fat32 converter, because when I got the call that his computer crashed, I found 2 non-DOS partitions that were not recoverable.

    Reboot, Reformat, Reinstall.
