Stardock is probably the most gamer friendly developer you will find. None of their games require the CD to run, the CD-key is not mandatory to installation (however, you cannot update the game if you do not key it in, but this is not unreasonable IMO) and they do a great job of supporting their games. Sins of a Solar Empire is an extremely fun game, and if you are into 4X games, Galactic Civ II was also fun IMO.

Yeah, kind of ironic how the people that were (at least to a degree) more tutored in designing the Diablo games that split off made a game that (seemingly, we won't know for sure until after D3 is out) is far inferior to what Blizzard is doing with Diablo 3. Change isn't always a bad thing, and really, the main thing that has changed is that the environments are more diverse, more realistic, and more interesting. Even Diablo 2 got old after a while. By the time you saw the same general random dungeon near the end of an Act, you were damn glad to move onto the next Act and get a fresh environment. And the palette was not near as powerful in Diablo 2 as it seems to be in Diablo 3, where they can convey more violence by subtleties in the blood gushing, the detail of the models, and the lighting that is light years beyond anything that Blizz was capable of doing with D2.

One thing that is often overlooked or forgotten is that these still shots don't do the game justice, because a game running at 24+ fps will always look better than a still frame from said game (reason why in many cases, still shots from games are usually doctored to smooth out the jaggies) and anyone who watches the D3 Demo and think the game looks "kiddie" and "Wowish" and isn't in good spirit of the original Diablo games either hasn't played them recent enough or needs to have their eyes checked. The game looks amazing, and plenty sinister without looking like Isometric Doom 3.

Unfortunately, you are in the right to assume you should have a relative expectation of privacy when it comes to your data. I say unfortunately, because they don't care and the law will back them up, not you. Basically, if they are storing the data on their equipment, while you have the copyright (rightfully so) on the data, they have the right to ensure that data does not make them an accessory to a crime or infringe on their security in any way. It's bs, but that's the unfortunate risk you take when storing private data on someone else's servers. I agree with the people who say you should co-locate data that there is no expectation of privacy on, and privately store the rest.

There's a reason why MS has done infinitely better business wise over the last two decades than Apple. Yeah, Apple has gained a little bit of ground in the past few years, thanks to the iPod, not any of their computers, but MS has a much smarter business model. Provide just the software, and don't lock down (as much as is sensible anyways) what type of hardware that the end user can use that software on. Granted, MS does a lot of stuff that can make us cringe, but no one can doubt that they at least do a few things much smarter than the way Apple operates. I'm telling you, 10-15 years ago, people will for the most part be over looking at MS as the evil empire, and Apple will have a sour taste in the mouths of anyone who is not immune to the effects of the reality distortion field. Does anyone believe that Apple has any desire whatsoever to have an open platform? There's a reason they sell their computers for a premium price, and it has little to do with the quality of their hardware.

Oh, and Vista has never crashed on me, I rarely reboot (mainly when I shut it down to go to bed), and I have yet to find a game that runs slowly on this beast. And unlike Dell, Gateway actually has decent tech support, which I've only had to use once but was great the one time I needed it. Oh yeah, and it was $1200 less than the Mac Book Pro config I was going to get.
