i've got a k6-3 400, and it works great. i get similar frame rates in quake 2 and half life than my friends with p2 450s (because of video drivers with 3dnow stuff in them). i've not yet figured out what people's complaint with AMDs are. i mean, yes, pentiums get better performance. but, i got this chip for $109, at the time, a p2 400 would have set me back about $250.
the price/performace betweent the two chips is a joke. for the extra money that i would have spent on a pentium, i got a TNT video card and a SBLive soundcard. and i get mabye 5 fps less than my friends with pentiums of 50mhz more.
since, i never buy the newest, fastest chips anyhow, there is no reason to buy pentiums, when i can get comparable performance from AMDs, or even a faster AMD chip for the same amount as a slower one from intel (for instance, a 550 mhz AMD instead of the 400 intel for the same price). and now that doesn't apply since the K7s are making the p3s look very silly right now if more people knew anything about chips, and not just, "Intel has commercials!", they would be laughing at the p3. not to say that p3s are bad, they are fine chips, however... i've seen them selling for $200 more than the k7 of the same Mhz. uh, somehow, that just doesn't add up in my mind. a worse chip for more?
anyhow, basicaly. i love my k6-3, i'm not sure how you came up with those numbers unless you starved that poor AMD of it's RAM.
"and it's time to nip these idiots in the bud, and throw them in jail for twenty years to send a very strong message."
This is just wrong. "sending a strong message", is bullshit, and it's wrong. They should be punished for the crime. NOT for more jailtime than for, murder, rape and a plethora of other violent and hurtful crimes. These only cost those behmoth corporations money, somthing they have plenty of.
I am not supporting these crimes, they are crimes, however, the punishment should not exceed the crime. there should be no "Sending a Message".
similar, yeah, after i thought of this, i did see an original trek episode sorta similar, but, in that one, if you were killed in the virtual war, you walked into an incinerator without and question. while this would be a wonderful way to reduce population without ruining the environment... i don't think anyone but me would be open to such ideas.
But, I have thought that wars should be fought using computer games for a long time now. Some kind of advanced simulation, where, if coutries really felt that there was somthing to fight over, they could mobilize their troops to VR caves of sorts, and fight a virtual war.
The results could be made as real as they wanted. For instance, they could have a dual for money for reparations for a crime, or if they were really angry, they would battle over land. The loser of the virtual conflict would give the land in question to the winning side. However, and people that lived there would not be harmed. And would be given the option of moving into the current borders of their country, or staying in the land which is now part of their enemies. However, no phisycal harm would come to them.
Far to idealist to really work, i realize this, and of course, there are many flaws in my train of thought. So, just a thought.
democracy? have i missed somthing? we have a capitalist goverment, it is run by money. there is no other driving force in professional politics. they have no backbone whatsoever, sticking by their morals? 'what is this morals that you speak of?'. it just grosses me out. and yes, i'm just bitching, so go right ahead and moderate me down to dirt.
Homeworld is the most amazing game i've played for some time. Great plot, engaging story, thoughtful gameplay, and graphics that i never thought i'd see in a rts.
i mean really, it's soooo much fun to play with spaceships that blow each other up. and all in a valient struggle to return home from... oops, i shouldn't give it all away...
ok, ok, so i sound like a press release or somthing. but this game is damn cool.
i would be very interested in somthing like this. as you said, quite useful when i pick my morals off the floor and decide to boycott a company, except this would mean the WHOLE company.
wouldn't things liket that be public record if they are a corperation? if so, where would one find records of ownership like that?
or am i totaly off here...
e-mail me if you wish, i don't know off the bat how i could help, but i would really like to.
"Whoa" i never saw that before... cute. now they're also poking a bit of fun at us. nifty though, i don't think i would have seen it if not for the point out.
i think you're right to a degree, now i am speaking from the point of veiw of someone who has not yet made the jump to linux, but i am sick of window's crashing.
anyhow, i think it's funny, cause the poeople that make fun of in UF are the people i don't think are serious about learning to use computers. i forget which UF it was, but one where some guy, calls greg, and he says somthing about being intelligent, so don't talk down to him, and greg gets all exited and tells him to do somthing simple, like open a program, and the guy says "don't get technical with me!".
it's just good fun, i don't think it deters anyone from learning a new OS, or computers in general, if anything, they get to laugh at how dumb all those nerds out there are...;)

ouch... yeah, ho ho ho, _would_ make a lot more sense if it had to do anything with referace to prostitution. just a thought...
