AMD made it so the chips this time around could do this. other chips weren't quite like this (as far as i know) the motherboard makers just had to implement it for socket-a, and it apears some of them are. epox is also making one, that apears to have it...
as far as i read, it actually does have somthing to do with AMD. AMD made these chips so that the multiplier could be controled, some of the pins are just for exactly that.
it's mentioned in the toms hardware article... here.
i agree, i think it is for the most part bad webdesign that makes the world require high speed connections, or suffer.
now if only we could get people to adopt a standard of total filesize... instead of, "use big image, it's good, painful for modem user, and helps site in no way!". just bitter....
i think it is important. not everyone has access to DSL and cable. although i do, it is downright painful for me when i'm out of town and am reduced to using dialup. i think pages that take more than 5-10 seconds to load, expecially because of images, are just unacceptable.
even a 10% reduction would be nice, expecially for those without fat pipes, or people using laptops or wireless internet access.
i hate to break it to you, but as someone pointed out above...
1. he doesn't have a backspace key for his vocal chords
2. i ramble and cut off sentances, and forget what i was going to say when i'm talking on the phone, a lot of people do.
3. what, you wanted a work of art or somthing? it's just an interview, and actually a fairly refreshing one i think, since it sounds like a real human being, not a record company made canned POS.
i certainly see the diffence. it used to take forever and a day to find the page, and then load it. now it's lighting fast. now i actually feel like i'm on a cable modem for a change! nice job:)
When i use napster, it's usually to find a couple of songs by a band that i have heard was good from a friend, or that i read about online. It's not to rip the artist off, I'm just looking to hear some of it. I have bought a large chunk of my cds collection because i have heard a few songs, or an entire album that i downloaded in mp3.
Just because i don't listen to commercial radio to hear new music, doesn't make me evil.
err, i don't mean to be an asshole here.... but, this would be during the cold war if i'm not mistaken, not WW2. that would be at a time when there would be nuclear land mines, and germany was split in half. the US would have probably wanted nuke mines on the western half of germany in case the big bad commies came for us. if you wanna call somthing bullshit. fine by me, but... some of us like history.
yeah, i think there was 1 that was short and to the point enough that i actually enjoyed. he didn't repeat or chase his own tail to much, and i thought it was quite good. lemme see, it was....
i can't remember what it was. damnit. and the WAVE stuff i thought was quite important as well. he's not all bad, even though he does babble a lot. he's human guys, give him a break.
/me dons asbestos suit, and akimbo fire extinguishers
i would like to say that i can't belive that this is happening, but... i do belive it.
if this had been in effect before i dropped out of school, i would have been at the top of that list.
i suffered from severe deppression for the 1 1/2 years that i managed to stay in high school. i was constantly up till 3 am only to wake at 6, not eat brekfast and then go to school, i had a knife with me at all times (it was a swiss army knife, a tool. but a knife none the less). i had headphones on constantly blaring loud angry music, and to top it all off, i wore combat boots and a chain around my neck.
so, i think it would have landed me with the police and a psychatrist had this been in effect. would there have been a reason to? no. the only law i've ever broken has been copyright law.
i've never harmed another human being although i have martial arts training. oh lord, i spend many many many hours on the internet. gosh, the net is just such an evil thing... it makes me more aware of what is going on as i can read of happenings such as this. yup, i've gotta be looking up bombs, and nazi propaganda. thats all it's for right? that and porn. |End sarcasm
ok, so to end my little rant... this stuff pisses me off. and would have been bad for a lot of people who are doing well now. like most of us. if we don't fight it, all the little screwups we used to be will be in a lot of trouble.
didn't they file suit against all of them? (course i could be making things up again) if they did file suit against peacefire was well, is the ACLU still defending him?
i mean, it's not like slashdot or loki is making you read this story. or for that matter, what did they ever do to you?
i think loki is doing somthing pretty cool, yeah, the games are a little old. but they've mostly been porting ones that are still fun after all the time. like alpha centauri, i get re-addicted to it about once a month or so. its just so damn much fun.
ok, so that is just an opinion. but really, if you don't like loki or slashdot, what are you doing here?
Our sneaker plants in the Philipines are the greatest boon that economy has ever seen. You owe us for that too
right.... i've lived in the US my whole life, i don't owe you, or this country anything. i hate to break it to you. and it may have helped the economy, but we could have helped it a lot more if we didn't pay them like slaves.
Pay up or fuck off, that's the way I see it
ok, please take your own advice. or get off your high horse.
i'm sorry, this is dumb, not wanting to share is just childish and we should not be dicks about it.
this isn't some stupid product, this is for some people a major change in the world. and as more and more countries start to have a bigger presence on the internet, they will begin making large contributions whether they know it or not. there will be larger amounts of server set up in other countries, fatter pipes, etc. and the whole thing will spread, and the traffic will flow there to.
anyhow, there's no reason for americans to be such uptight. the idea is to share information, right? it's hard to do that if we don't share access to the information, or if we discourage people from enjoying it and then making their own additions to this place.
labels scew the hell out of the artists on sales of their records. indie labels are better about it. but most of the money does come from performing because even if indie labels are better about paying them for sales, the sales figures are very small in comparision to the huge marketing machines that are major labels.
so, i guess the message here would be, go see those little bands you love as often as you can. cause otherwise, they will be back at burger king, and not writing more of the music you love. and, ya gotta love mp3.
i haven't listend to the radio for 9 years or more. it's pure and utter trash.
mp3s, although illegal, have exposed me to many artists which i like and have bought their albums, that i would have never had a chance to hear because none of my friends know about them.
some examples: the who, bob mould, goo goo dolls, 764 hero, the pixies, concrete blonde, superchunk, the breeders, golden smog, seaweed, replacements, dead kennedys...
i could go on, but i've easily bought 50 cds because i downloaded a few of the artists albums, and liked then enough to buy them. if i don't like them, i delete them. it's pretty simple.
often i will later rip these cds to my hard drive to listen to them since is spend far more time with my computers than near my stereo, and i often send the files to friends to introduce them to bands i like. and i can think of at least 10 albums that they have purchased because of this.
i think bands have benefited from mp3 more than they have been hurt.
yeah, it is good to see things like this, i do miss the times when the internet didn't seem to exist for the sole purpose of selling things.
it's good to see that information, and fun (often hand in hand), still exist out there without exiting just to sell you somthing and have a slick website.
doesn't seem to make any sense to me...

now if these guys can start making cute parody songs like this that are on topic, now that would take skill, and it would be quite amusing :)
