Coming from an audio engineer point of view, mp3 is a sonic nightmare. I've talked with many engineers and alot of non-engineers about this, 99% of them agreed. The other 1% is clinically deaf in his right ear (dam car streos)and isn't an engineer.
Anytime you digitally strip anything from a full file, you're overall quality of the dynamic range diminishes, even if those frquencies cannot be heard by human ears. you can argue all you want, but my ears don't lie to me.
I personally like DVD audio, lots of room to store huge, phat songs, with a full rich dynamic range.
I guess for portablilty, mp3 makes sense, but I won't buy it. I love my music to sound good.
Dave Phillips sent us a minor spoiler so sbort now if that bugs ya.
I think that explains it all. Lamers with nothing better to do that bitch about stuff. Save your keystrokes and ignore the postings. It's that easy. Some of us happen to dig Star Wars, and yea, it's media overkill, but what isn't nowadays?
I'd rather sit on the Net and fill my head with knowledge than veg in front of a TV and watch stupid sitcoms. If I watch TV it's usually for Hockey or Discovery Channel.
And believe it or not, tons of so called "geeks" have fruitful lives outside of the Net world. It's just on the weekdays instead of watching TV they surf the net, play games or chat. I don't see a problem with this.
I go out on the weekends like everyone else...drink some beers, see a movie and what not. No biggie. People stil lhave this stereotype that computer users sit in a dark room all the time hunched over a keyboard with empty Coke cans and half eaten pizza everywhere...yea some still do but it's not as common as people think.
But it's still a hoot to drink some beers, and frag at Quake on a Friday night sometimes.;)
Everytime I see the word DiVX, I think of that guy on the Circuit City Commmercial. Talk about a plastic fake-ass expression. He looks like the product of going over board on proper groomng and a bad imitation of someone on a parade float. Heh, he would look more in place about 40 years ago selling some vacuum for Hoover.
As for DiVX, this is about the worst idea yet. Sounds like "smoking some good stuff" is still going strong in the R&D dept.
I never thought I would be saying this. But AOL and MSN are good for one reason IMHO. They keep the newbies in one arena for the most part.
The ads say, "I'ts fast and easy". Well it is. Log on and everything is spoon-fed to you. And with all the marketing crammed down everyone's throat, people who are not computer enthusiasts, who just wanna surf and email, AOL and MSN are perfect.
My mother has used MSN for three years or so. She has always been happy with it. She isn't a computer power user or anything. SHe surfs a little and does email. Blam, simple and easy.
I could sit here and ramble for days why i hate MSN and AOL. But I challneged myself to find something positive. This is what I came up with. And I do feel better about it becuase AOL and MSN won't go away anytime soon. And quite frankly all this bitching gets on your nerves after awhile.
So look at it as a place for newbies to stay and gather and leave well alone. Let them hang out in the safe walls of MSN and AOL. SUre, some of them creep out and explore the real Internet world, but soon they go back to thier playpen.
All this post is for is just to make someone laugh or make them "Think Different" about something. If not, flame me all you want, I could care less.
Star Wars and the whole epic, not just Episodes 4,5 and 6 (which wasnt the greates one), you would see the significance of these first three. Now I know not everyone is a SW nut like myself. But just the mere thought of having the story of Vader and the Clone Wars is phenomenal.
I've read a couple reviews by people who have the actual script. They are very critical and overprotective about Star Wars and how the story will develope. These people were not dissapointed.
As for the graphics and cinematography, George Lucas is nothing short of a genius. He employs some of the most creative and talented people in the world. This won't be some lame-ass FX movie with a lacking plot. ALl the time and effort put in FX is equally distributed into the plot and storyline. You have to remember, Star Wars is another world. Not just some 2 hour natural disaster/amazing animal blah blah blah type thing.
I've read some of the spoilers here and there. But nothing that is obvious to a Star Wars geek. I'll tell you what, these movies will be more complex. But the beauty part is, all of the intracacy is woven very neatly behind the main plot. The other tilogy currently out was complex, but Lucas made them simplistic, and only the more detailed viewer would catch onto sub-plots and clues to origins of the characters and so forth.
The tricky part with these types of movies is satisfying the typical movie-goer and the fanatic. This I would beleive would be no easy task for any director/producer. G. Lucas did it w/ the Episode 4, and his successors did it w/ 5 and (well, maybe) 6. Rumors have it Lucas will dirst all three of these new movies. For sure of course the first one, but will have alot of control in the next two if he doesn't direct them.
But I can sit here and ramble on and on, but the true test is when you sit your butt in the chair with some popcorn and coke and watch it, and make the decision for yourself. I am just conveying (and hopefully calming some anxiety)that Star Wars is far from Deep Impact or Mighty Joe Young.
read about this. Gee, isn't this why you pay for software in the first place? I mean you pay for the people to program it, R&D, production, shipping etc... Now if we pay taxes to get this software to developed, we might as well just pay for some software at Egghead. Same concept, someone is getting paid.
I thought this whole thing was a bunch of programmers all over the world dedicating their free time and effort and passion for computing.
yet another over-priced Intel chip. I have read that newer Intel Katmai and Celery...err Celeron chips will be un-overclockable too. Lamers.
I'll put my money on AMD and IBM/Motorola PowerPC chips.
heh, I even read that the Katmai now does 4 FPU calculations at once now instead of just 1 in the PII...heh, just when Intel was going to catch up with the K6-2, AMD does it again by going to 16 FPU calculations per cycle...technically AMD will scorch the PIII...but we'll see the benchmarks and real-world results soon enough. As for PowerPC G3 and the upcoming G4's....they just flat out rule.
get mp3 to sound halfway decent, I would love it.

I think CmdrTaco distictly says:

(Cartman) "Screw you guys, I'm going home"
around 25 bucks..Now thats not to much to ask for a one of a kind t-shirt that has elite written all over it.
"Release your inner nerd."
waste to much time arguing.
there are several cookie cutting programs out there.. but some sites with passwords require them to log into. oh well.
Freinds don't let freinds surf the net.
Get away from the computer son.
Is there a 12-step program for Net addicts?
I see the same thing here that happened with the introduction of Atari and Nintendo. Nothing really has changed, just more stuff to do.
I'd rather sit on the Net and fill my head with knowledge than veg in front of a TV and watch stupid sitcoms. If I watch TV it's usually for Hockey or Discovery Channel.

I liked AOL or MSN as a whole, just that one aspect...the rest of it can drop off the planet =P
may have been a bit off the subject.
Call it a vent triggered by the mere mention of MSN and AOL...heh, brainfart mayhap.
Frankly, I'm not suprised at any deal/merger/buyout anymore.

As soon as money gets involed, that's all gone.
