I started thinking about my internet usage earlier today. It turns out that I use it mostly for: Listening to Spotify Playing WoW Watching programs on iPlayer / 4oD etc Patching my OS Reading webcomics Reading the news
The only one which might be affected is the last one. Last time I checked, Wikileaks was on the darknets / Freenet anyway.
So donate to them, write to them with coverage of these issues and your support of their stance regarding them, and become an activist. Offer your skills, if they are applicable. It could be web design, accounting, legal advice, whatever. Just show your support, and let others know why you do it.
Now it's down to the artists to not renew contracts, and instead distribute their music to their fans themselves. Profits can be made selling merchandise and playing live.
Anyway, I look forward to Every. Single. Search Engine. being blocked by Every. Single. ISP. because they all link to infringing content. Hell, Google Images is the largest database of copyrighted images on the internet.
For pale blue, yellow / gold or a deeper blue. Navy is best. Some folks get away with a deep red, but it's hit and miss. Darker blue shirts are the same, just without the dark blue tie obviously.
Handy tip: If you have a hangover, put on a shirt and tie with patterns that run perpendicular to each other. They make you look like a magic-eye picture and people will leave you alone as they can't stand to look at the shirt/tie combo, even in peripheral vision.
What you've done here is say "The car has a blown head gasket, a leaky radiator, and the steering wheel is loose, and therefore I don't like the way you adjust the seat."
Picking apart the update process, driver issues, and virus proliferation is pointless here. Offtopic.
(I run Ubuntu at home and work, by my choice. I agree with everything you've said, it's just totally inappropriate in this context.)
Less work than modifying Windows themes. You don't need a separate theme manager; Synaptic will install themes for you. I just downloaded 4 theme packages which all work through the Appearance panel without any legwork whatsoever.
Most I had to do was enter my password for Synaptic to install software, and type "Themes" into the search box to find some themes.
I'll be moving them back to the right hand side with Emerald. I prefer them there. First screenshot is the standard New Wave theme with the icons moved.
I pay £110 per year for my BBC services because I think they're better than your advertisment-supported (and hence profit-motivated) propaganda machines. You push the agenda your advertisers let you, and I don't buy it. The BBC has no advertisers, and is far more critical than any private and profit-oriented media company.
Get bent, Murdoch. Stop trying to monetise me. I give my money and time to who I want to give it to, and that's not you.
I'm working on a project that requires writing protons to an atom nucleus in a completely controlled fashion. I need to be able to control exactly where protons will appear physically on the nucleus. Normally when atoms are created during fusion the actual atoms that get created are determined by the energy input of the fusion reaction as modified by whatever kind of atoms are being fused (e.g. hydrogen into helium). All of the modern innovations in nucleosynthesis and alchemy are great for particle colliders and crackpots from the Middle Ages, but they are making my particular task quite daunting. My question for Slashdot: is there a way to get down to the 'bare metal' and transmute lead into gold in a cost-effective manner? Any good utilities out there to do this? Obviously a free and open source solution would be preferable, but I'm open to anything at this point.
xda-developers are porting Android to the Topaz. Progress is slow, but it boots and a lot of the basic functionality of 1.5 (UI, calls, messaging, apps, wifi, no phone or gps) is available.
Put that in your pipe and smoke it, Apple fanbois!
Roadcraft is the advanced driving manual for police officers. It is supposed to be supported by extra tuition and experience gained while being trained to drive a car as a police officer. It is available to the public, but is not specifically designed for civilian driving.
If you want to learn to properly use the techniques described, I'd recommend joining an advanced driving group, such as the Institute of Advanced Motorists Their testing is performed by a serving or retired police officer who holds a Police Advanced Driving Certificate.
You should note, however, that this does not make you any more qualified a driver. It is not an "Advanced Driving License", but may be considered for a reduction in car insurance premium.
I understand that maintaining control under these circumstances would be nothing short of miraculous, but if your car is rapidly accelerating towards a sharp bend anyway, what do you have to lose?
No, it absorbs kinetic energy...

I lose nothing.
He was deaf. Cut the guy some slack.
Indeed. They should have played St. Anger instead of the Black Album.

Nothing to see, move along.
Put it on the back of a Postit and stick it in front of your webcam.
It's like Autocomplete!
Dude, you have no idea.

Of course you weren't. They are ruthlessly efficient.

Nor will it ever be.
The Solipsist is considering suing myself for copying my idea.

The solution to your uncontrollable kids problem: Crelling Harnesses - Challenging Behaviour
Alternatively, keep unruly kids indoors unless they behave properly. Parenting isn't easy.

Gearbox seizing = wheels locking = slowing down.

The answer to that question is speed.
My HTC Topaz does tethering without network interaction. I enable connection sharing, plug in the USB cable, and it shows up as a USB NIC to my PC.
I say my PC, as it works on Windows xp, 7, and Ubuntu 9.10 without any configuration whatsoever.
Why? Boot Ubuntu from a LiveCD, pop in a USB drive, backup data, reinstall Windows.
Oblig. XKCD

I'm gutted that I'm 4km away from the exchange where I live now.
