You use the product but are incablable of reading the open easy to find fincacial statements that they post and e-mail out in their newsletters. This short trem finacial crisis is because of one thing and one thing only a mistake in hiring a US division CEO who had no idea what the company stood for. He took the US division down a very bad path and spent a ton of money trying to make the company into something it wasn't. He is gone but the company is suffering from the cash lost to his mistakes. The finacial statements say that they will be profitable by the end of 2001-2002 financial year. That seems pretty short term to me.

I know what the WinCE devices can do and what the Plam OS devices can do. I'll take a palm anyday. The requirement of hitting the reset button every 15-45 min of use on a WinCE device is rediculous. Trust me it is a fact of life with the WinCE device... Yes yes I know you have successfully run your device for "years" without a problem just like the NT4.0 box a MS headquarters that has "never" required a reboot. All in all on my palm device I didn't evewn know where the reset button was on a WinCE device I hit it all the time. I work with embedded devices and handheld solutions so have a pretty good idea what works and what doesn't. Now the Ipaq under Linux is not as pretty as the WinCE Ipaq but I havent had to reset recently other that for loading new images. The development Yopy works very well and soon I hope to have a Sharp device as well... In answer to your Win2K kernel issue... MS couldn't even get this running in a handheld device last I was there (2 weeks ago) let alone make a decent Device with it. And are we really sure we want something that is Jim Allchin's pet carried next to our hears?

  3. Re:Why OSS doesn't need QA... on A Framework For Quality Assurance? · · Score: 1

As a full time QA Engineer, I will tell you that there is a very different mindset between a developer and a QA engineer this differance is what makes QA esential to any good prosess. There are things that someone trained in QA the QA prosess will atumatically look for that a software designer/programer will never think to test. I break things for a living as a consiquense I take the team of developers out on social events reguraly so they know I am not attacking them personally. Not one developer I know uses the QA prosess on his/her software nor do they use this prosess on other software closed or open source it matters not. I submit many bugs/defects to the OSS projects that I use their program almost all have been very happy to recieve good well written bug reports from someone who knows what they are doing.

  4. Don't Support Real Networks on QuickTime For RealNetworks · · Score: 1

Watch out for the folks at Real Networks. I was forced to work for them for about 3 weeks between (regular) jobs. They don't care about the customer all they want is your Credit Card #. Once you are in thier system you are stuck, I fielded 15 calls in one day about double charges and additional fees tacked onto the credit card statment. Noone at RealNetworks cares the job of the "help Desk" is to get people to pay for an upgrade or to have the CD sent to them both of which costs more money. The 800 number only has access to the lost ID# for your purchaced copy of RealPlayer and nothing else for help you need to call a toll line.
