  3. Time to face the music on IBM releases JFS to GPL · · Score: 0

I'm always overly critical of IBM. Mostly because I work at said company. In the past, I've said I wouldn't beleive IBM was really doing anything positive in the Linux/GNU/OS/FS community until I saw it. I guess I have to admit that IBM is actualy contributing and seems to be doing the Right Thing with some of their products.

But ... I'm still pessimistic. I don't trust IBM, I can never forgive them for the death of my son. Wait ... er, I still think IBM is only looking for a way to upset MS and isn't really interested in playing nicely. Once MS is gone, I hope IBM's true colors turn out to be honest involvement and that IBM doesn't turn back into a schoolyard bully for the IT world.

Mod this down since it's mostly me bitching. ;)

Is no one considering the effect this might have on our children? I'm willing to support the advance of technology, but I draw the line at robotic monkeys. If you recall the US attempted to put a monkey into space and frankly, we all know how that ended ... in utter chaos.

Perhaps Jon Katz could write an article on how this will ruin life as we know it unless stopped. Or maybe how I'm oppressing robotic monkeys and forcing them to commit violence in labratories across the nation. I can hardly wait.

Every appliction may have a different terms of agreement for how the source is handled. If anything, this is incentive to READ before you buy or mess with someone's source code. You should be reading the licensing anyways, but I know MS liks to put it inside shrink wrap before selling things. ;)

Crying `Fire' in a movie theater is not speech. It's talking/yelling. It's beer, not speech. Threatening someone isn't speech. It's threatening someone. Impersonating a police officer is not speech, it's dangerous.

With the above logic I could say that the US bans my freedom of speech by not allowing me to detonate a nuclear weapon on the White House lawn. Hardly speech in my opinion. Speech conotates thought and expression, and does not involve harming or endangering other people. It sucks like that.

And when those people take the word of biased corporations (CNN) and manipulating television stations (NBC), they are buying into an altered, tailored, and unreal version of the world.

Some people might not care, but I do. And in the end, if I have to limit what I can honestly say I know is real to what I see and experience in my own life, then so be it. When it comes to media companies, take the advice of our old friend James T. Kirk, "Don't beleive them, DON'T trust them!"
