At least get your GED, then take a class in some community college. If you have even one coll class, it doesnt matter if you have a hs diploma or not. Of course, it would be good to actually get a degree... but you dont see too interested in going anywhere else.
I know several people that dropped out of hs to start college, and most of them were a little smarter than the avg monkey. Many of them are still in college, but think of the time they saved.:)
I was never caught because I never did anything stupid when in hs, but I had a bad habit of taking reports from other students directories, reformatting and adding a few comments of my own in several classes. Saved lots of time and allowed me to play "hunt the wumpus" during class.

how can you, a certified aol-hating geek, support them like this? or are you trying to say that they occassionally do GOOD things for the communtity?
lol true... but what they arent exactly killing anyone.
yes, it should be brought to the consumer's attention, but we shouldnt go nuts over it. Almost every successful company out there does something similar... they just dont get caught right away.
maybe slightly offtopic, but there was an article recently (or something), which said the purpose of a board of directors is to come as close as possible to breaking the law as they can.
the goal of business is to maximize profits while minimizing expenses. for a company to make maximum profits, it may have to cheat a little. the trick is to come as close to that line as possible, without doing something blatently illegal or unethical. if they dont, they arent maximizing resourses, if they go too far, they cross that invisible line, and when they get caught we see it. or something like that.:)
lol I didnt say that linux couldnt be secure... you just need to the time and knowledge to secure it.
Actually, I dont even have bsd installed yet, though just got the 2.7 cd and will do it in the next week or so (when I get time).
Currently running linuxppc on an 8500 and have two pcs waiting to have something installed... openbsd goes on my gf's, and probably storm linux on my athlon.:)
locks only keep honest people honest... sure there are always a few kids that like to try and pick locks, but I think they usually do it around their parents house (at least I did).
as for systems, its fairly anonymous... you cant get a fingerprint if someone fingers you online. the local neighborhood watch isnt going to notice someone pinging your box either.
even if it is recongnized as a crime, I doubt that will stop most of it... until there is also a way to easily trace someone attempting it.
yes, i got into trouble once for what they called "hacking". but I learned from it, and havent got into trouble since.:)
I do believe that time is also relative. Does not time changed with speed? Everything moves forward through time (though I almost recall something....), but age at different rates. The famous atomic clock experiment showed that a clock orbiting the earth gained time slower than one sitting at sea level. Go Einstein.
ok, so its not so cheap... buy a mac. seriously, there seems to be a good bit in here on the difference between macs and pcs, noise and heat. I've always used a mac (dual mac8.5 and linuxppc) until recently. I could leave the mac (8500) on for weeks in my bedroom with no problems, no heat buildup, no trouble. I recently decided to get an athlon with windoes98 for games. Its (A) Noisy, so cant run it at night and sleep well. (B) Hot, if I leave it on for log I can feel the temp change when I walk into the room. (C) Crashes, if I try to leave it running for more than about 10 hrs. Now I'm starting to wonder why I didnt listen to those little voices when there were yelling "dont do it". Ah well, looks like i'll be putting bsd on it and sticking it in the other room soon anyway.:)
I dont live in sf, but if it is as bad as this person seems to make out, I wonder if anyone will even notice... sure, it may be derogatory, but I am willing to be that the avg joe will just glance over it, maybe even give it a chuckle, but forget it before he gets home.
And what if joe does remember? Will he even realise this is a protest? He tries that link, gets an "server not found" error, and give it up as another dead web site. killthedot.com anyone? This seems to be the common thread to all these, not all of them have his real URL (and as someone else posted, why does he have a website if he is so adamant?).
If this guy was serious, would he protest anonymously? Like someone else posted, "write a book." Vandals are vandals. Sure corporate litter is bad enough, but whats this about "get drunk and liquored up"? If that isn't encouraging trouble, I dont know what is: "hey bob, why dont we get drunk, stick derogatory posters up all over town, and throw eggs at.comers. If we get caught, its only a fine and maybe a night in jail. Doesnt this sound like fun?"
I dont want my kids on the streets with this guy, or even seeing posters like this all over the place. There is enough profanity floating around elsewhere, he doesnt need to add to it.
What about this about "can any sew... build a table out of wood" crap? Granted he lives in sf, but I can do this, and if I can, anyone should be able to. If you arent sure, do a search for "instructions building tables woodcraft" or something. Guess what? It's online! All because someone decided it would be a good idea to put that information out there, and maybe pay for it or made his living from ad revenue.
Besides, if I thought I could made 15 million dollars, this wouldnt stop me. I'd have my.com ads out there so fast he wouldnt know what hit him.
The lining up of a nucleus parallels the encoding of information in conventional computers as binary ones or zeros. However, unlike a traditional bit, which is either on or off, the nuclei are subject to the very weird laws of quantum physics that allow them to simultaneously be in multiple states. In other words, they can be a one or a zero at the same time.
i read the other article, and had the same question... i have read a little on quantum theory, but cant say i know anything about it. and yes, we have all heard of schroedinger's cat, which is neither dead nor alive, but both simultaneously.
but how, if we cant tell which state something is in, can we use that to manipulate information? its not like you can set the bit to on or off, instead you have all this randomness per bit that you cant control or even really measure.
You should be able to get a rack mounted PC for far less money and effort with more than likely more power.
undoubtably, and far less trouble too. however, this guy obviously needs to run the Mac OS for his business, and you cant get than in a pc.

Hell, I was just wondering how many iMac users would still feel comfortable hugging their Macs g'night each night if they were in a rack instead of their cute little smiling iMac cases.
ha, that reminds me of a close friend who refuses to buy a mac for just that reason. he wants something imposing (think black and rack mounted), even for his home computer.
why should anyone even care what the comp looks like, to either extreme? tis what it does that makes the diff.

This being known, I picked up a standard PC one-unit rack-mount case with power supply, fans, and drive mounts. A custom-wired power adapter, a little modification of the back panel and some 3/4" stand-offs and I managed to successfully mount the motherboard and get the machine booted. The only remaining complications were constructing some longer cables for the monitor plug and CD-ROM, the latter of which required some special-order high-density connectors from good 'ol Digi-Key. Total price: the rack case and about 50 bucks in parts.
dood, he gives you all you need right here. pull the motherboard out, grab a multimeter, and go to work... if you dont want to do it, its fine, but all you need to do is read up on the specs for the imac, and you should be able to figure out the rest.
isnt it always more fun to do-it-yourself? if not, like the prev poster said, "its only $40"... that shouldnt break any of us.
for that matter, you dont *need* to worry about the cdrom... which would solve some of the problem, just drop it into an existing cluster, and there you go... another processor for your use.
personally, i've always preferred macs, and currently using an 8500/200 with linuxppc (though often still use the mac os because of my job... which will hopefully change with the mac-on-linux dev). i would love to try this... now where can i pick up a really cheap imac?
here is the link to the story he mentioned. It really is a great article for us amature star gazers.:)
so we have these huge things floating around... suppose one of them entered out system? i suppose it would be captured and begin orbiting our sun also, but think of the damage it would do before settling down (if it ever would).
perhaps the next great "comet" movie should be about a free floating planet or star:)
its the year 2525, and now what? we have pissed off cloned pigs used as organ banks, super advanced AI beowolf clusters, our own legendary human stupidity, and who knows what else...
the time is ripe for the pigs to team up with the AI, enslave humanity, and start cloning us to be usee as food and spare parts for the pigs and batteries for the machines...
all depending on how many digits we use... and after the whole Y2K silliness, i thought we all decided to use 4 digits for the year (until we run into the Y10K situation)
it should be rounded up, i agree. however, we are still a few hundred years late. *sigh* 3-14-1593
Nanosaur is a cheesy 3D game that comes in dozen packs for free. That's about as close to being the primary reason for buying a mac as Notepad being the primary reason to buy a Windows PC.
nanosaur is a FREE cheesy 3d game that demonstrates apples QD3D library.
nanosaur is about to become a FREE cheesy 3d game that also demonstrates the quesa library.
nanosaur was never a reason to buy an apple computer, but is a nice qd3d demo, and will shortly be a nice quesa demo. perhaps this isnt "real news" but what is? and i do think it calls some attn to the quesa library. which is what all this is really about, isnt it?
Whats with the attitude shown here? Is there no respect for freedom of choice anymore? I just happen to be an AOL and MAC user, and last time I checked, I wasn't the gay one here.
I have an 8500/200. Most of the parts were taken from ebay, though I did end up buying a refurbished motherboard. I ran into a few problems upgrading to macOS 8.5 because most everything I have is non-apple and so require third-party extentions. I am now running linuxppc and macos 8.6 and have no problems.:)
As for nanosaur, I've played it a little, and think it a cute and amusing game. It certainly wouldn't be the first game I would port, but as an experimental game for the quesa library, i think its an awesome choice...
and if nothing else, its free... for both platforms... if you dont like it, deal with it... then get on with your life.
alack, long before there was an internet, i was skipping school, not be hang out at the mall with a friend, but to hide away from humanity with my hands full of bound papers covered with strange little black symbols.
