  1. Which game(s)? on Video Games Found To Decrease Brain Activity · · Score: 5, Insightful

The first thing that I would like to know is which games were played? I would expect there to be a large difference in brain wave patterns between Pong and an RTS or Strategy game, which would require strategic thinking, game theory, and multitasking. Also, it seems as if the researcher may have had a negative attitude towards video games prior to the study.

  2. Re:IE has the most uesrs on Web Designers Ignoring Standards and Support IE Only · · Score: 1

Haha that is hilarious. Mod the parent +1 funny, because that is one of the most naive posts I've ever seen.

In case you haven't done any webpage design, writing standards-compliate pages MEANS NOTHING. Do you have any idea how few browsers support these "standards"? W3C isn't even an official standards organization, they merely issue "recommendations" that each browser may voluntarily implement. So you think that coding to "standards" will guarantee that your site works in all browsers? That's complete bullshit.

Do you think that Lynx supports CSS 1, DOM 2, or XHTML 1? IE 5 has pretty good standards support, UNLESS it's on a Mac, which requires extensive CSS modifications. What about the .1% that still use Netscape/IE 3, which existed prior to HTML 4?

The fact of the matter is that producing high-quality, bug-free web sites is just as easy as producing high-quality, bug-free software. That is to say, you can never fix all the bugs! Coding to standards will _help_, but don't be so stupid as to believe that standards are some magical potion that ensures compatibility across ALL browsers.

That's not a "hole" in the theory, it's the entire point of using GPS location in the key: to restrict the location that the file can be accessed to reduce chances of compromise. I'd say that convenience and security are pretty much opposing forces: you need to pick a balance between the two depending on the circumstances. And I agree with you that this would be significantly inconvenient in most situations.

  8. Re:That's actually a pretty cool idea. on Geo-Encryption: Global Copyright Defense? · · Score: 5, Interesting

    > How do you store the location in the media file in such a way that it can't be changed? How do you prevent players from being manufactured that don't look at the location.

Because it's encrypted, with the GPS location being the key, or at least part of it. So it's not like you can just ignore a location header and get at the text file: you need to pass your GPS location into a decryption algorithm that will decrypt the scrambled data into a readable file.

Of course, this can be an additional layer added onto existing methods of asymmetric encryption. As GPS units become more precise, we might even begin to have a "decryption tile" or square in bedrooms so that each resident has their own decryption key accurate to that specific square foot of space.

Someone stole your laptop? They're going to have to break into your house, steal a key to your room, and stand on your decryption square just to decrypt any of your files. Sounds like an interesting acrobatic scene for Mission Impossible 3.

Another problem is storage. It weighs 80lb and is pretty big, so you can't exactly take it up to your office. The structure doesn't look like it has much of a place to put a bike-lock type of security device, plus it could be cut easily anyway. Give their high price and low weight compared to a car, theft is going to be a major problem.
