Whether you're down with String Theory or not...

    -The Fabric of the Cosmos

    -The Elegant Universe

-Icarus at the Edge of Time (this would have tripped me out if read to me as a kid!)

Check out the NOVA documentaries for the Elegant Universe too

Ah, of course! Psy trance! Silly me, I have one of their albums in my collection even...

    Oh, wait a minute.

This article is about the band. For the cosmological model, see Plasma cosmology.

My bad... But wait a minute, from the rest of the discussion I see:

Plasma cosmology and the Electric Universe 'theory ' are not the same. The electric universe folks use plasma cosmology to try to support their claims, but the reverse is not true.

Hmm, well after reading that wiki page I didn't really get much about the actual theory. And I'm lazy. I couldn't find a good summary anywhere else, or quick discussion of the main underlying processes / explaination of cosmological observations.

Very interesting and last couple of posts here.

I'm an engineering & physics undergrad, and have never heard of this EU theory before. After I post this I will google it or hit up wiki to try and find out what the whole thing is about.

That said, when I read the AC's post "not a debate," it sounded really convincing to me - that whatever this EU theory is sounds totally looney. But pln2bz's response was even better. Regardless of what EU theory is (I still don't know), I got insight on some interesting phenomena or problems in cosmology/astronomy I've never heard of before. It provoked much more stimulating thought and imagination.

Now I feel like the AC's post tricked me!

But now I'll look up what this EU theory is (and see if it really is some batshit crazy timecubish "theory")

    Mod parent up!!!

Its hard to be believe how ignorant people's arguments can be like the GP's. Or should I say, contradictory?

If evolution isn't provable, thats like saying any science shouldn't be taught because it's not provable.

"Creation theory subscribers" should just stop getting vaccines, using modern technology, etc etc :)

Cmon. Where's the fun in exploration if its not risky enough you may very well die doing it?

Whats the difference from dieing in Iraq as a soldier but not in space as an explorer? We send soldiers to die all the time, but all of a sudden if it was someone who died going to the moon in your scenario we pack up and don't try again?

When the space draft comes, I'll be ready to be flung off this planet for science :)

Damn, I'm happy I grabbed my 14 inch T61p before it wasn't offered anymore!

The 4:3 screen gave me such a geek-gasm. 1400x1024 is amazing! The laptop looks a bit more elegant and sexier as a square than with extra widened body to accomodate wide screen.

I was so surprised that there was no other laptop maker that could give me:
    -4:3 screen
    -good graphics (FX 570M)
    -two hard drive bays
    -robust construction

Too bad its already getting the mobo replaced for DOA cardbus... but once I get a fully functional laptop it will be sweet!!

  11. universe stems from the collapse of a previous uni on Before the Big Bang: A Twin Universe? · · Score: 4, Interesting
Hmmm, the universe steming from the collapse of a previous universe.

Read this off http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cosmogony the other day. Kinda similar idea in ways:

In David Brin's book "Earth" it is suggested by a scientist, that in the moment of the collapse of an experimentally created black hole, it separates itself from this universe (like the separation of a child from its mother) taking with it all consumed energy which lies behind the event horizon. In his speculation the implosion of a singularity in this universe is followed by an explosion/expansion of a singularity in the child-universe, which then became independent of ours. Of course this causes an energetic underpressure with every collapse of a black hole, finally making this universe disappear when the last singularity implodes. It can be interpreted as a variant of the oscillatory universe theory.

What if the big bang was just the explosion of all the crap that was in the event horizon of a black hole from a parent universe?

    Questions I have are:
-How could there be such a massive black hole in a parent universe that our universe originated from? Subsequent universes would have smaller and smaller total mass/energy so it couldn't go on forever, and that would mean there was a starting point?
-Wtf is the collapsing of a black hole? I thought they evaporated...
