Even if you bothered setting up a website like that and sent the login info to your friends, they might go for a week or two and then they will forget about it. They'll keep going back to Facebook though. Your website won't send them an SMS when you update your status and there's no significant reason for them to keep going back. Your best bet would be creating something and getting all of your friends to use it, but even that's doubtful because everyone they know is on Facebook.
Some DSL connections do change your ip anytime you reset the modem. I used to get around IRC bans by resetting my DSL modem. A simple solution to that is to use a dynamic dns service. There are a ton of free ones.
Couldn't you drive somewhere nearby that has wifi? I mean, it sucks that you would even have to do that but it would have to be better than what you're describing.
You obviously don't know that much about Linux yourself, and your friends and family are going to get pissed off when they try to use discs with Windows games/applications in the drive and they don't work. Or when they download programs that don't work. Yes, you can use Wine for some things, but it's still not going to work the same way as running a native Windows box.
You are incorrect about having to install Win7 on a machine with only one harddrive. I installed it on a machine at work with 3 drives. The drive it was installed on was partitioned, and it's dual booting with XP. Don't make shit up to try to make yourself sound smart.
Or as a p.c. tech. It's us that has to try to explain to users that software package x is glitchy and the new update broke it and there's nothing we can do about it, they'll have to contact the developer. Some of them get mad that we won't fix it.
Because everybody doesn't feel like emulating software when they could run it on the platform it was meant to be run on. If Linux had more software (mainly games), they would have a much larger following. Also, remember how dumb the average user is. Sit them in front of a command line and see if they stay there for more than 2 minutes.
Mr. Fusion powered the time travel mechanism, the car always ran off of gasoline.
Nothing. The quote starts with "If you build it"
DNS is a protocol, you're thinking of TLDs.
Multiple Youtube windows open.
"all run in separate processes, so when Flash decides to crash, it won't take your browser out with it."
That's what they said about Chrome. That was a lie.
That isn't very hard. It's what keeps you from running into the person in front of you.
You've effectively crippled your browser and you're mad that websites don't load correctly?
Level 3 has 4.2.2.1 to 4.2.2.6
Eurasia has always been the enemy.
Probably not, simply because "face" and "book" are both common words and "diaspora" isn't. It won't be as easy for people to remember or spell.

Why do you need an entire TLD to yourself? Just register one .net domain and you can use as many subdomains off of that as you want.

Namecheap is currently a reseller for eNom, though they are now ICANN accredited and should sell as their own entity soon.
1&1 is by far the worst. Namecheap is pretty good and they recently broke away from eNom to become their own registrar.

It is incredibly inconvenient. I work at a college with a volume license. Vista doesn't activate anywhere near the way it should.
4. NEVER work unpaid. If the company can't afford to pay you then they can't afford your work. Find another company.
