  1. Re:Too late for IE8? on Acid3 Test Released · · Score: 1

Too late for FF3, IE8 is only just about to hit betas so it stands a chance, but FF3 is still fairly competitive for a browser that has done specific for the test ( it gets ~50 more than IE)

  2. Browser rundown on Acid3 Test Released · · Score: 1

    from posts here:
    IE6 - 4
    IE7 - 12
    IE8 - 17
    firefox2 - 50 (also epiphany2)
    FF3.0b3 - 59 (mine)
    FF3.0b5pre - 67
    Opera 9.25 - 46
    Opera 9.5 - 65
    Safari 3.0.4 - 39(win) 34(mac) 38 (iphone)
    Safari (unkown nightly) -90
    Konqueror 3.5.8 - 0 (crash)
    konqueror 4.0.2 - 61
    konqueror 4.1-pre - 63
    SeaMonkey (2.0) nightly - 65 (Gecko/2008030501)

so for next gen its safari >> Firefox > opera > konqueror >>>>>>>>> IE8
and for current browsers its konqueror > Firefox > opera > safari > IE7

Interesting that Opera is no longer the standards king.

In my time on windows i think i only got one piece of 'unwanted software' i wasn't playing with (yeah i was the type that played about with sub7 or whatever it was called) and that was a dialer program.

At least Microsoft wants people to buy their crap so they have some incentive to make what is perceived to be a safe investment in technology.

The rest of your post may have some validity but this part is just FUD. Unless you've made a distro then licensing doesn't even come into play. On the contrary if your business built a system based around Microsoft java virtual machine, when Microsoft got caught stealing code then your employees would be unable to use it.

In what way do you think having an upgradable graphics card is *any* use to someone not buying a machine on the strength of its graphics card? Thats exactly who would upgrade graphics cards. If you buy a machine on the strength of its graphics card, upgrading the ram isnt going to be enough for you, your likely to want the latest chipset that gives better performance. But if you buy a system and then a couple of years down the line you find its a bit sluggish (say you start running compiz / vista effects) , well you could just stick a new stick of ram in it.

What are these mythical people going to use the extra GFX ram for ? running desktop effects
    Photo editing
    Video editing
Playing games they couldn't play before ( not on full graphics as true gamers do, but just struggling to play it with the extra ram (your still on an old chip set after all)
