unfortunatly citizendium never took off. I think a key problem is that forking wikipedia you loose alot of wikipedia's name & support, aswell as the fact that they are still good for alot of topics. What id like to see is an includipedia, which for articles that get kept is just a portal, but for keeps all articled deleted on notability grounds.
Although instead of rellying on a single site, id like to see a multiwiki, that acts as a portal to several wikis, say wikipedia, wookipedia, comicpeida, etc glued together by a central wiki-like site. The advantage of this would be you choose what information to view, to make it a verified as well as citizendium site or a website that includes everything (although ofc you wouldnt be able to filter out by notability because thats stupid!)
While i agree with most of your post, scientists have an unexplainable believe that the universe can be explained. Once you start thinking about quantum entanglement alot of astrology starts looking fairly normal.
While i personally think that most astrology is complete rubbish, given that the range of gravity is infinite pretending its defiantly wrong, isn't fair either (i mean cosmic rays crash computers), whats to say that something similar cant affect humans?
your guess is wrong! 1)install wine (apt-get install wine) 2)download a platinum game(e.g steam) or use a platinum game CD 3)click install 4) profit, erm i mean play.
sure not all games are platinum rated but there are a lot.
besides i think he was talking about native games which is even easier 1) find somewhere that sells UT 2) buy UT 3) play UT
also saves time as you dont have to wonder which game to buy
while you do have a point, we are talking about Avril Lavigne here!
I generally don't try and put music in boxes, but it does piss me of when somebody pretends to be rocky, shes not, she never will be, she never was anything more than a popstar.
And the otherbands broke out due to their tallent in other markets, no offence but the mainstream american music isnt exactly cutting edge, good bands often build up support a lot quicker in europe/australlia (depends on genre i think). I put it down to the fact we have more small music scenes.
*IMHO no country where MUSE support MCR will ever be worth visiting, whats wrong with some people!
He had an hour of songs from video games, its quite impressive how many good songs there are in good games. For those of you in the UK check out his Wednesday show on radio iPlayer.
I dont think in the age of myspace that any real talent is getting boosted by games. The bands that break into the mainstream after a couple of albums of giging and getting fans, thats where the real bands are.
Newton certainly isn't up there, plagiarism is is bad mmmkay! Einstin would still be arguing with god over weather he rolls dice And god doesn't exist/care!
[citation needed] Specifically on the abortions. Also if they didnt force a 1 child per family system people would starve, i dont aprove of the abortions (if they happen, i thought they used economic sanctions), but better to kill one fetus than to have the child starve when the population booms.
and has hundreds of other draconian policies to protect its power structure and closed society. You think it's going to give a damn about a global warming game? They don't and won't. Now thats what im worried about, not a crappy flash game, but unfotunatly the same argument can be applied to America.
could be worse, he could of said blagotubes (http://xkcd.com/181/). I have to admit that i didn't even bother reading more than the summary, saying something has to be taken out of the hands of anarchists is never a good start, because by anarchists he means people!
They undoubtly will bury Via, they performed worse than amd for years but not enough people noticed, so they will spread FUD about how more cores makes your system more stable and then produce chips with more cores than via. It wont matter that Isaiah is better, byt the time the intel fud train roles through the corporate IT sector we'll be believe that cores matter, the same way we fell for ghz matter!
is the limit 4? i thought it was as many as you can cram into the bandwidth, in the UK we have 8 TV channels + other stuff on multiplex 2 (but i don't know if more than 4 broadcast simultaneously).
This was the 1 thing that kept me trying to figure out the less polished alternatives, but now mythTV can do multiplexing looks like ill be giving it a shot. I just hope theyve included advanced enough options when it comes to recording the multiplexes. Can you specify how long to keep an unused multiplex, so you can record channels without putting the effort to decode (e.g i could keep a 2 day buffer of dave on my HD but in reality im unlikely to save/watch the programs unless theres nothing else on)
I don't see how any rational person would take the slim chance of winning such a prize at some point the future over a steady career that pays for a decent home, keeps the spouse happy and puts the kids through college. Id go further id say that i dont want such people in science, giving out pots of gold encourages stuff like 'cold fusion', making life as a sceintist easier would be nice. At the end of the day I (and im fairly certain most scientist are the same) am not in it for the money, more money is more likely to cause more corruption from those that are.
Increasing funding for scientific education in the US is a much better path to go down as a scientific education grounds you well for many fields, including scientific research, but also including those where the money is (e.g financial sector work)
Im afraid not, after reading the wiki i was tempted to install it as it seams flash 7 completed (with alot of features from 8 & 9) but i need to use adobe flash for the bbc iplayer so unless theres an easy way to switch between gnash and adobe flash, im only going to use gnash occasionally at best.
Ill be more tempted once they hit beta, although i get the impression that its beta quality (suppose its not gnu's style to get as far as beta:P)
What's the advantage of having multiple distros? Choice while some distros provide only Free software (debian) others provide easy ways of installing proprietary software (ubuntu)
theyre compiled differently some are designed for servers ( compiled with flags that dont include support for libLatestGUI ) others a designed for desktops ( compiled with all the gui flags) some are designed to run of liveCDs ( compiled with flags that support whats on the CD but nothing else ) others are designed to be permanent installs ( compiled with flags for everything ) youd need one hell of a binary package managment system to pull that off
theyre patched differently while some distros will patch quickly to fix a bug, others will pay more attention to the quality of the code to prevent latter patching
theyre released differently while some push fiarly stable releases out every 6 months (ubuntu) other have longer more stable release cycles (debian) or none at all (they stay in perpetual beta) while some test software thoroughly and pay attention to fixing bugs, others get it working and push it out the door to the users
they develop different software while one might want the develop an easy to use gui installer (ubuntu), another might develop a complex full of options CLI installer (debian) while one might develop a new gui with flashy effects (suse), another might develop a new lightweight GUI for older systems while one might concentrate on making drivers another might concentrate on supporting closed sourced drivers
Im no expert so some of the above examples might not be true.
AFAIK bsd code cant be clinked to gpl code ( i dont know much about licenses tho)
I find gnash cant handle most youtube or youtube like sites well, let alone trying to use a game. It may have improved, but i think Flash is one thing where atm you have to pick your battles. Anybody on anything other than windows 32bit ( & maybe mac 32) knows that flash sucks, but its the defacto standard for videos on the internet.
*gnash can do the video playing, but that is one part of youtube but the iPhone will look bad if it cant do the rest.
yeah whe you only have 101 (its much quicker type than explicitly spelling out the and) users you just don't have time to setup distros.
Whats the advantage of not having any distros? that everything needs to be compiled from source (ala gentoo) or that everything is precompiled for somebody else's needs (ala debian). While i see that BSD does have many advantages (reliablity, checked code, speed), i really don't see how not-having distros is one, sure it means you don't have to choose a distro, but it also means you cant. The linux distros mean that there is constant competition to deliver the best desktop/server/freest/fastest/securest/smallest/scientific/livecd/usb distro, and while it means there is some duplication of effort the overall pace of development is quite fast (fortunately a lot of the development then makes it into BSDs, but FreeBSD needs linux alot more than linux needs freeBSD (especially as stupid license nazis stop us sharing code *shakes fist*))
p.s the FTA is a troll as this was already coverd at freebsd release time and the wise pointed out that solaris still beats both systems
(as/. mods seam to have degenerated to youtube levels recently, ill have to point out that the top of this post IS a joke, it IS NOT flamebait, and the meat of the post is below. Oh and dear god the comment in brackets is ironic, not stupid)
I missed your post which is much more complete than mine, i compiled the numbers from various Slashdot posts. I personally only tested firefox3b3 and konqueror 3.5, which are both done on Linux (kubuntu 7.10).
I assume the numbers are similar because the OS should make little difference to cross platform code ( any difference is down to a platform specific bug), thats why i removed any OS details for everything but safari (where i found it interesting that the windows version performs better than the mac version).
producing O2 from CO2 via an artificial means. Is that even possible? the only efficient way i know of do this is through photosynthesis, if there was an easier way don't you think they would have solved global warming already. If you need plants, then you need them to pollinate and theirs no point in the astronomer spending his time being a garderer so your best of sending some bees.
why steer? if you throw yourself of mars at the right time your very likely to just fall to earth. the problem is very similar to the moon landing, only with a larger jump from the surface and harder maths!
It can safely be said that no 2 geeks have the same Firefox, but most 'norms' probably stick with the default firefox. So while your argument makes sens for fishing attacks it makes no difference if a browser can be customized or not (said 2 geeks will also check the address bar before entering any personal details).

my apologies i dont know where i got that impression, but your correct it apears that opear was the 3rd non beta to pass acid2 (after konq & safari).
But as i have nothing but contempt for safari after http://apple.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=05/05/12/1555240, im never going to accept that its the most standards complaint.

I can't help but laugh at people that make fun of others while hiding at the same time behind an essentially anonymous pseudonym.
