I firmly believe that blu-ray will remain a niche media, as an upgrade it's NOTHING like VHS -> DVD.
VHS -> DVD gave us:
*No rewinding/Chapter Selection
*Menus/Special Features/Language options
*Digital >>>> Analog
*Long lifetime (assuming decent storage/handling)
*Writeable media > Recording
DVD -> Blu gave us:
*Better Resolution/Picture quality (with proper hardware @ 1080p)
*Harder-to-scratch disks.
