Okay, admittedly Radeon HD 2000 through 4000 drivers work great in Windows (aside from the fact that they require.NET for full functionality) but apparently you haven't been paying attention to the recent fiasco involving their more recent GPU's under Windows.
Anyway, you've made it perfectly clear that you haven't actually looked into the HD2000-40000/Linux/X.Org issue; it's about time you bowed out to stage left on the subject...
Correct me if I'm wrong but I was under the impression that this issue isn't directly related to kernels 3.5 and above per se, but rather that AMD is refusing to compile their legacy driver for x.org 1.13 (which is perhaps indirectly related to the kernel version). Maybe someone can shed additional light on the subject...?
did you consider the label of legacy isn't arbitrary and is based on a pre-determined lifetime? and that they aren't going to continue supporting old technology forever?
Did you consider that you might not have a clue what you're talking about? Radeon HD 4000 GPU's were shipping in brand new machines up until very recently...
...if it means those of us with Radeon HD 5000 through 8000 series GPU's get a little more life before AMD arbitrarily labels them "legacy" so that they can stop paying their engineers to develop drivers for them (like they recently did with the HD 2000 through 4000 series)...:p
While that might be part of solution, remember that Stuxnet was delivered on a thumb drive.
That's why the other half of the solution is "don't run your centrifuges with the same damp, soggy operating system that you use to connect to the Internet...:p
No. We're being told that that's what he's doing. It may be the same thing to you; my critical thinking skills (not to mention my awareness of the complete lack of credibility of the powers in question) tell me it's not.
I used to build my own servers but it really takes so much more time specing it out
You don't spec out your pre-built servers? Anyhow, if you had much experience building servers with COTS parts (from the likes of Supermicro, Tyan, etc) you'd know that their inherent compatibility and adherence to standards saves far more time in the long run than having to fuck around with garbage from the likes of Dell and similar ilk...
Bigger picture, yes, we're educating the competition, but we're also familiarizing the next world elite with US culture much as the British used to, making the world ever more US-centric.
Have you seen our country lately?! The last thing we need is for the rest of the world to become anything like us...
...there are countless hot porn jokes in the offing!
Pfft, if you want to talk about potential jokes that really scrape the bottom of the barrel (in terms of tastelessness and insensitivity), you only need ask:
How many does this seat?:p
I know, I know... but if you think that's bad, here's one that'll really make you cringe - and I challenge anyone to come up with something worse:
Q: What's worse than having sex with a two-year-old?
A: Washing the blood off the clown suit afterwards...

they work fine in windows
What the fuck are you smoking?!
I have yet to park a gas-powered luxury car with half the tank full for the night and find the tank empty in the morning, dimwit.
The moral of the story is... gas thieves only target shitty cars? ;) :p

Shills, fanboys, whatever. Geez! :)

I'm gaming with an HD4850 now and its fine...
Apparently you haven't tried using the HD 4850 with any kernels higher than 3.4...
Of course, I could've been unfairly modded-up by nVidia and Intel shills... just the luck of the draw, I guess. :p
Wow... am I really getting modded-down by AMD shills??!

To be fair, he claims to have access to shoulder launched air to ground missiles.
To be fair, the incredibly corrupt and completely untrustworthy L.A.P.D. claims that he's claimed this...

...but show a penis on the screen and it's x-rated?
Naturally; how else are the priests/preachers and politicians supposed to keep us from figuring out what's actually on their minds? :)
We have a society of Drug addicts. Nicotine, caffeine, tons of doctor prescribed drugs (like Methadone).
You left out the most destructive of them all:
sugar.
I'd think it would be easier to issue a presidential edict saying that anyone who swears allegiance to Al Qaeda...
You seriously assume they're the real enemy?? :p
Only last year there was a deadly shootout in an unlicensed hotel at the end of my street.
Well then, I for one consider the matter settled; after all, such an incident could never happen in a licensed hotel.
Or something... ;)
Or you can pretend that it's some elitist attitude thing because that sounds cool, right.
I don't know about you, but I for one don't think it sounds cool when Apple tries to pretend that they're elite... (that is what you meant, right?). ;)

vibration gromits
That's a hell of an idea; if you could just get 'em to vibrate 180deg out of phase with... oh, did you mean anti-vibration? :)
Statistically speaking, you are safer on your standard 737 jet than you are sitting on your couch, in your living room
I'll have you know that my couch is equipped with enough parachutes for every occupant on board!

I read that as "Razer Unveils High-End Gaming Toilet" and did a double take...
