It looks like you are making logical jumps that don't seem to fit.

Does it allow people to watch TV that they didn't pay for? Yes I don't pay for use of google or youtube either. I just plug the URL in my browser and away I go. This is the nature of unauthenticated web resources.

Does it prevent Verizon and MobiTV from receiving revenue that they should from the streams? Yes There are 2 problems with this claim:
    1) this assumes that every one who uses the service without paying would still want it bad enough to pay for it if it weren't available freely.
    2) if a resource is publicly available but the authentication costs money, then I would argue the revenue comes from people wanting to be authenticated not have access to the resource

Is it wrong? Yes WTF how the hell did you make this jump. This is the equivalent of taking some private content and posting it on a billboard along the highway. If I do that I cannot have an expectation that my content will be viewed without getting revenue for it.

I am tempted to believe this explanation but it implies that there is a whole bunch of new features that complicated the development cycle. There are only 2 features that I am aware of that are new. "Trusted computing" and Aero. Am I to believe that these to unremarkable features account for a 6 year development cycle? I would have been much more excited with a unix-like permissions system. Does vista come with a cd burning tool that handles ISOs yet?

  8. Re:Just asking... on New Science Standards Approved in Florida · · Score: 1

The problem here is the way evolution is being presented in Florida. Up until now, Florida has presented evolution as a hypothesis. Now they want to present evolution as a theory and that is the problem. The words theory and hypothesis have scientific definitions. theory (from wikipedia): a mathematical or logical explanation, or a testable model of the manner of interaction of a set of natural phenomena, capable of predicting future occurrences or observations of the same kind, and capable of being tested through experiment or otherwise falsified through empirical observation hypothesis (from wikipedia): a suggested explanation for a phenomenon or of a reasoned proposal suggesting a possible correlation between multiple phenomena The argument made was that presenting evolution as a theory gives it unearned weight. The opponents of this change were saying that we have no observable evidence of one species changing into another (especially a more complex one). And because these changes cannot be done in a lab, then therefor evolution is a hypothesis not a theory. Now unless someone can force evolution in a lab or unless it can be falsified through tests, then it is in fact a hypothesis. However in the absence of any other reasonable hypothesis, I see no reason why it should not be taught in schools. In the interest of full disclosure: I live in Florida. I am a Christian. I believe in a 7 day creation (oh come on like it is any less logical than one species spontaneously increasing the complexity of its dna). My children go to a Christian school where they are not taught their great grandfather is curious George. I am a College educated software engineer.

  9. more competition on New Legislation Could Eventually Lead to ISP Throttling Ban · · Score: 1

the answer here it More competition. Although, I think that competition has been prevented by government. Cable companies are awarded Monopolies, just like phone companies. Really the only solution here is new competitors from new technology. I am anxiously awaiting Wimax and FIOS as possible solutions. With only 2 choices (cable Vs DSL), there is no room to expect competitive pressure.
