    C. The library should be able to control what content is viewed on its own computers without you and other self-righteous do-gooders imposing your will on the library. In other words, don't be such a hypocrit.

You're talking about the library as if it were a separate and distinct individual. Wrong Slick. That Library was built only to serve the local community. That Library is the local community and should serve ALL of its members, not just the vocal few. The Library should not be in any position (through software or otherwise) to determine what is available to its customers - the local community. If people can't accept the good with the bad and use their own moral compass to guide them, then the only "real" solution is to close the doors on all the libraries completely.

  5. Where's the Government when you need them? on Filtering Internet in Public Libraries · · Score: 1

I am so sick of these debates!! When is the government finally going to get off their asses and do something about this!! I'm soooo tired of making decisions for myself. The Government should be deciding for me what I should be looking at. Why just last night I had to decide for myself what to have for dinner. I stopped by a sandwich shop on the way home and had to choose from a menu! This would be so much easier if the Government would legislate a national meal plan. People should not have to think for themselves.

  8. How to fix. on AOL's Upgrade of Death · · Score: 1

As a small ISP, I've been playing with this one quite a bit. What you need to do here is delete the AOL DialUp Adapter from Control Panel->Network. And with everything windows, reboot. Also, DO NOT ever touch the AOL software again. If there's a shortcut on the desktop, delete it. AOL will recreate the AOL Adaptor if you start it up again.

I'm not a large fan of MS by any means but I always go by the saying "If it's not broke, then don't fix it" and if the US Dept of Labor is comfortable with a product they already use, or the feel that MS has an advantage, then thats their right as a consumer.

Uh, go read the article again. They already had many licenses for WP. *AND* the US Gov. is not a consumer in my book. They are an end-user of the US Consumer's (i.e. Taxpayer) money. They should be making EVERY resonable effort to get the most for MY money. A fair and equitable bid process is essential for that to happen.

  11. use registration to create anonymity on Anonymity on the Internet · · Score: 1

I prefer to remain anonymous as much as possible and ironically registering at websites, etc. actually helps with that. I got a telemarketing call one day and since I was bored, I answered some questions. After the survey, I was asked for my last name. I said I don't give that information out and apparently the person "had" to enter something. Weeks later I started receiving junk mail for Mr Firstname Smith. Now with that name (and a few others) I signup for webemail accounts and "register" at websites with them. Since all these databases eventually will be shared and compared, I think I'll have a couple pretty solid virtual people created in a year or so. Beats the heck out of creating them from scrap DNA.
