Before anyone flames this guy too much,... looking at his comment history, he is Swedish. His comment may have roots in a teacher telling him that the Civil War really was just about "states rights". It could also be a language thing--many of his other comments have been thoughtful. This one is just ill-informed.
English majors and computer/science people don't always communicate the same way, do they? Though not "waxing poetic", I think it is a fair amount of "poetic license" to say near infinite. To keep on with my overuse of cliches, language is a bit more like horseshoes and hand grenades, isn't it? Plus, you weren't expecting scientific or mathematical precision from the Slashdot editors, were you?;-)
They would be up in arms about 45%... currently they pay around 35% if they have bad accountants. Some rich people brag about paying less in taxes than their employees and are screaming and kicking about restoring their tax rate to what it was under Bush (39ish%).
It's currently illegal to count people by ethnicity in France, so hard to say for sure. However:
"Solis, a marketing company, recently estimated the numbers for ethnic minorities (immigrants and 2nd generation) in France in 2009 as 3.26 million Maghrebis (5.23%), 1.83 million Black people (2.94%, 1.08 million Sub-Saharan Africans and 757,000 French from French West Indies) and 441,000 Turkish (0.71%)."
Looks like 72% "white", but of this, the US counts persons of Hispanic origin differently. Consider also that that 72% is not monolithic (e.g., there are persons that are Dutch, German, English, Nordic, etc.) rather than solely one ethnic origin. The US doesn't even try to count people of different "white" origins in census data.
Yes--immigration has become more of an issue in the last 50 or so years for Europe. Your point may stand, but it is on very shaky ground since pretty much 80+ percent of Holland or France appears to be of one origin. Perhaps one could be informed by a population and a continent that has been dealing with immigration issues a little longer? I think the Americas have been dealing with the issue for about 520 years.
No--there using this story as a metric of how many/. readers are sympathetic to OWS and similar political agendas. With all the changes since Taco left (flags?), this subtle quantification and increase in slashvertisements has made it ever more clear how/. will sell its users as product. Damn it. My post is self-fulfilling prophecy.
DIY medicine started a lot earlier than smartphone. My friend got hit by a boom while sailing once and split his forehead. His dad grabbed the duct tape conveniently aboard (they were far from a hospital) and *PRESTO*, wound sealed. It healed with less of a scar than my finger I got stitches for.
On a slightly more serious note, the interwebs and all its tubes have increased the ease of access to medical information and I certainly hope have improved the quality of care patients can get just by being more educated.
I find it ironic in much the same way Michael Moore talks about benefiting from capitalism because it is amoral and doesn't if you are protesting it or fighting against it so long as you can make a buck.
Perhaps you misunderstand what the mission was? From an administration that knowingly lied to the American people about WMD, why would you expect differently on this matter?

Thank you for your summary, T'alc.
Turning? Where do you live that isn't fascist already (in the classical sense)? Business and government do seem rather cozy pretty much where you go.
Perhaps "old school" social networking is the way to go? I find that there's a big differences between friends and "friends".
Football coaches read more than X and O?
Looking at format tags makes you angry and creates a personal dislike? Gosh, I'd have thought a fellow nerd would judge on content, not appearance. :-)

Thank you mods for drawing my attention to this.
pardon my ignorance, but did someone give eugenics a good name?

At the moment, they need us just as much as we need them... time will tell.
I love how a slashvertisement is brought to you by "Crookedvulture". Too funny.
"Ignoring the decertification of large areas of Africa and Asia."
Yes, because things were better for Africans and Asians when they used to be certified.
These aren't the droids you're looking for... this is the Pat you wanted:

Certainly didn't take long for some moron to externalize the true costs of the market.
Psst... '00 was a while ago... might want to give it a go again.

So what you're saying is you want a dolphin-safe television?
Perhaps you misunderstand what the mission was? From an administration that knowingly lied to the American people about WMD, why would you expect differently on this matter?
I think you missed a few steps... as pointed out by other posts.
Actually, that is usually, "Go fuck at home", isn't it?
