Well I have seen and read a number of reviews for this card. Now I really feel that this card deserves a bit more than it gets. It is kind of put to the back burner becuase of the GeFORCE 256 Craze. Its like totally forgotten about and not *everyone* plays games and if you dont play games I seriously would hate to see you pay 300 bucks for a DDR GeFORCE thinking your gonna get better 2d display.
You wont.. the matrox beats the ever lucin sh!t outta any nvidia card out there for 2d. AND I think its also good we support Matrox and pray they have the next awesome 3D card because they will be releasing specs and we will have some wicked fast drivers in Linux. So dont knock publicity for these people! Who cares if its old Its good for discussion also so bah
I own a Millenium G400 MAX and it is the best video card I have owned. I was thinking I got seriously ripped shelling out around ~250 Dollars for the 32MB version of the card.
I have to agree I have a 19" Nokia Monitor and I even bought a GeForce256 SDR and yeah.. my Quake was a lil faster but I stare at this monitor 26 hours a day writing code some of the time and I will say the Matrox has a much better display than the GeForce. Its very obvious and I would not trade my card for anything.
Not to mention this card has the best Linux support out their IMHO. Voodoo cards are good for linux support but I just find this card phenomenal.
Now lets talk about the dual head display and DVD playback of this thing. Dual head display! ROCK ON!! Once you start using it you wont ever stop. I wish a couple of *good* games would come out that totally utilize the dual display. As it is using it in doze is just to much like fun.
Okay DVD playback rocks to.. I lose no frames full screen:-) It has all the good audio formats supported DOLBY etc. etc. I have a Monster Sound as well so overall im super happy with this system but the video card is sorta what makes it for me.
Okay if you have not laughed today you have gotta hear some of this article
Compared to the courtship stage, Brewer added, EarthLink "was like a completely different company" once the merger was official and the firms began to integrate their networks. "It was just 'WAN, LAN, thank you ma'am,'" recalled Brewer. "We felt cheap."
ROFL Okay heres another good one
"That's just so like a sweet-talking Southern company, isn't it?" Betty wrote. "When they're after you, they're all doe-eyes and 'Ooo, your subscriber base is so massive, let's integrate.' But once they've got your name on that merger license, they act like synergy is a sin."
I was dying when I read this stuff. sounds like someone screwed up rofl.
2. My mug:/bin/more coffee.hot You say this jokingly I endeavored in a similar project once upon a time Here is what I did. Bought some of the X10 Plug n Power stuff from radioshack and found a decent Interface for them to the parallel port ( IE one that explains what all the pins do etc. )
They Had example drivers in DOS and *nix which was sweet.
I wrote a small daemon in FreeBSD that was *real* simple. on or off and only for one X10 unit. Okay.. I plugged in of course my Coffee pot!
From there as a big *heh heh this will be fun* I used PHP3 to talk to the daemon and have coffee from the web AND IT WORKED! rofl
Most of this was inspired from the 'java' howto. lol it was all so much fun to do
I for one had never heard of the author of Gzip nor Zlib and was just aware they worked. I was also not aware he allowed code to be used in winzip and other projects such as IE so that PNG could survive. Little pieces all fit toghether and he deserves props. Good Job. I am glad not everyone in the world is after money! And he could have easily asked for some money and im glad to see someones proud for NOT taking money! Good job again!
Cool, That makes a lot of sense. So If I just recompile one file out of ohh.. 50 source files ( i do this like 100's of times / night) It creates that object file and would only have to relink that object basically. Sheesh that *would* save me a bit of time. It is only a p166 MMX (which have a nice extra bit of cache versus the non MMX versions) with 128MB of ram so that would actually be very cool.:-) Thanks.
As far as programming API's go MySQL wins HANDS down. Its so easy to put out C code to interface with MySQL. A big hand should go to MySQL people for making a sane C API:-)
Honestly given the amount of publicity MySQL has gotten I did something very horrible and assumed most everyone knows that MySQL is open source and basically free.:-)
PostgreSQL is BSD License Interbase is gonna be Mozilla MySQL is GPL/Pseudo Free
Okay I have read a few reviews where they stackerd Interbase up to PostgreSQL and talked about the limitation sof MySQL.
MySQL Good Stuff Very fast for read heavy or low user-load apps. Good Security Good Support with web publishing systems Not So Good Stuff No Transaction Support Table locking system behaves poorly with many connections Noy SQL-92 Compliant.
Okay a little about interbase and PostgreSQL now. PostgreSQL has a shared cache, something interbase DOES not have in the Linux version as of yet. Interbase blows PostgreSQL out of the water for single user queries. Interbase TPS on OLTP Single Read test was over 150 The same test for PostgreSQL was at the 50 mark. for transactions per second.
But if you are expecting many concurrent connections interbase does not have the *best* setup and PostgreSQL will actually outperform Interbase under lots of connection/high-load.
Without the shared cache PostgreSQL was like three times faster than interbase. Go PostgreSQL. Another nice thing about Interbase is that it IS SQL-92 compliant. Okay Enjoy and I hope this was a litle useful. Oh BTW Interbase is under the Mozilla License
(lol I was asked to check out the two database like last eek:-)
You totally missed the point AGAIN. If we have the source we can develop drivers. Ahem FreeBSD is still its own entity they are seperate camps and until doomsday comes and I see developers being moved to BSDi at an alarming rate (I know IRL a couple of the Core developers) Im not worried because it will make BSD much stronger in the mean time and you know what I wouldnt even care if I had to pay for it as long as I get the source. I will *PAY* for quality thank you I know the developers gotta make money somewhere.
I am fixing to send off my donation to peacefire. I hope everyone else does to. If.. 1000 people donated 10 dollars its not a lot but it matters. I hope everyone really considers what 10 dollars can buy in an effort. This is something we all need to do strength in numbers support people with backbone so they dont get their balls busted! Now gogogo

Okay I figured this for a flame also and everyones jumped on the flame this comment mentality but after a little thinking and a small discussion I believe he has a valid point.
Given the circumstances and NDA's or whatever it still does not matter.
Granted Loki did do this openly and thats a helluva a lot better than many companies would do and this qualifies as open source there is still the matter of initial design that was *very* closed.
How would you feel if 6Months into a project yet another be all end all API comes out? What do you do? Reimplment? Redo all your sound code? Stick with what you got?
I think everyone is a bit hasty to flame including myself. Loki IS being a bit sensational and I do agree they are not the *only* game company out there. Sure they did a lot and they were one of the first but dont get all defensive for them without at least learning both sides of the story..Thanks
lol No not an attack.:-) I can see why you are sort of annoyed by the situation it just did seem somewhat inflammatory. My apologies:-) (usually it *is* a troll or flame:p )

BN Giving this book away is not so great..
Available only in Rocket eBook format.
What does that mean? That you gotta shell out 250 bucks for some reader!!
Its a piece of hardware and it loosk neat but cripes I can get half of a good system for that much!!
I spent all this time to download it and then they say it is only available in a proprietary format for free?
Promoting the stupid eBook this is another money making scheme as usual with anything in life. Whats the damn point?Im seriously wondering now a days.
Anyone else feel like yer trapped in a rat-race? bah

Hmmn okay ill stop my praise now.
I trust like two people on this planet. Ive been burned so many times its just not worth believing anything anyone says to me anymore.
So I sure as hell am not gonna trust a company whose skirmishing the lines of being a total waste.
They Have no backbone because they know their stupid TrustE logo means NOTHING. Screw them
I do business based on my own experience and thats it
Notice my bitter cynicism here? It happens after bein alive to long.

Is it better this was *never* released?
I suppose if you want a quick invasion of the desktop market there will be trade-off's :P
I saw this on the news. One of the big things they want to patent and some of the things they *SAY* they want to do is this.
Primarily and most importantly patent *THEIR* method of discovery
PAtent the genome so it is free for everyone. (of course this is just one of the many groups working to do it.. ho well)
Yes! hehe.. Okay so my examples SUCKED but there are some really anti-desktop people in the FbSD core :-)
Scuse me..? Whats stopping you from starting your own API open to everyone? Stop flaming and complaning and do somethin better.
