That older, more experienced users wouldn't stop... because they are experienced enough to circumvent detection. I, for one, would just do more proxy surfing, and encrypt my.torrent downloads.
Then again, I'm canadian, and the police/government/etc are more focused on the criminal groups which make money off illegal downloads - not end users!
What happens when politicians try to apply this to the more important things in life? (although a bomb threat is important...)
Will we start getting shocks for every frag, to discourage the school shootings which have become rampant?
Will we be getting shocked for each donut?
When Youtube upgrades the quality of their VIDEOS and not the quality of the video FILES... then I'll be interested. For now, as so many others have said... Youtube is adequate for watching 15 year olds set themselves on fire;)
Well, Steve is just stating what everyone else is thinking! Everyone who isn't completely in love with apple, that is. Although apple has great products, they're not for everyone, and because of that, they lack certain features.
For example, the macbook air isn't very good as a main computer, and the lack of 3G iphones has to do with battery life - Apple has chosen to offer certain features which are mutually exclusive with other features - I'm glad someone... respectable... is saying it!
I know a girl who has apple everything. She wouldn't buy a music player if it didn't come from apple - and she has 4 ipods, and 3 apple computers. She likes things to WORK, and she likes them to look beautiful. So, she ** IS ** apple's target market.
Me, on the other hand, I prefer other options - I LIKE figuring out how my gadgets work, and I like repairing them at home... so if they're a little bigger (because they're not manufatured with VERY tight tolerances, like the ipod nano), then I'm okay with that.
Buying an election only costs... how much?
Oh wait. This is just the startup costs... *sigh*
I guess my dreams of world conquest are falling apart around me.
I'm not sure (but I might be) that I represent most people my age... but if chemistry isn't your thing, then the ONLY way I'm interested in it, is if it involves fire and/or drugs.
Our government will support social networking DORMS... which will probably lead to research on better methods of intoxication. If we were american, it'd lead to faster methods of (insert aggressive american stereotype here).
Although this particular "activation" method has been around for awhile, it is interesting to see that microsoft never bothered to fix it.
I can't believe that microsoft is still a lumbering software giant; notwithstanding their disdain for consumers (Turning off vista if it wasn't genuine... even when it was!), they continue to make boatloads of money. This 'workaround' for activation is another example of their disdain for the end user; they're willing to accomodate the manufacturers in order to push an inferior software package onto the masses.
It makes me feel like Henry Ford is running MS - 'you can have any OS you want, so long as it is VISTA'.
I've personally decided to put the effort into getting my home computers running OSX (a very FUN project) so that my family can have the eye candy that is associated with MS without... MS. (and yes, linux can be pretty... but I'm the only one that uses it!)
Well, if I was interested in the classics, I'd read them! I'm not talking about project gutenberg, I'm talking about my particular reading tastes,... being current fiction.
I'm sure there are plenty of people who'd agree that project gutenberg is great, but *not* current;)
When the US military is run by people who are representative of their population, and understand the composition of their country, they may be successful in persuading the best and brightest minds to work for them. As an observer here in canada (and we're not THAT much better for this), the american system tends to use the stick, not the carrot, in order to persuade its citizens to do the right thing - which discourages experimentation! The US military is percieved as being much worse.
Excellent!
I'm glad to see that publishers are trying this out. Tor has a promotion running, in which they email you non-drm'd books (usually book 1 of a series) every week.
And, ever since I bought my prs-500, it has been difficult to stay legit - I have a hard time buying a book online for the same (or very similar) price to a real, dead tree paper book. Sure, I could feel good about saving the environment, but why does it cost the same to deliver an electronic book as it does to sell a hard copy? I thought shipping and handling, stocking and middle men markups had something to do with the high price of the written word... *sigh*
... and back to the topic at hand, this is an excellent book!
I'd be really interested in an inexpensive laptop, when it truly is inexpensive!
Whether you're spending $400 or $500, that extra $100 seems to get you QUITE a bit more in terms of hardware. I have trouble dropping $1000 on a laptop that is only marginally better than an $800 one; but I don't see a problem spending $500 on a laptop that is MUCH better than a $400 one.
If you need a cheap laptop, just buy older technology! The devaluation on computers is worse than the devaluation on cars!
Well, I'm glad that from now on, Apple Fanboys will stop mocking me for buying a PC and using sony MP3 players. I mean, now that apple has jumped on the "screw the consumer bandwagon", they're basically sleeping in the same bed as Microsoft and Sony... right?
Yes, this topic was my motivation to make a slashdot account!

Hey, calm down! ... I didn't pay for my copy of windows either ;)
I'm an equal opportunity f*tard

I'm not impressed by a power bar. I am impressed by a mini-box.com pico psu! Now THAT is space saving ;)
Excellent!
