Keep up the good work then Corrinne, I'm looking forward to it. I have thought, for the past couple of years, that a new protocol should be outlined especially for game packet transfer - something compact that can be more tailored to a gaming environment's needs. Or is UDP serving you alright?
Also, if I remember right, you were the person who once wrote the delightfully excited.plan file about an orthogonal basis function, right? I just grinned because that's not usually what you see in those.;) Take care,
Yep, it did say that they were the only retailer. That's why I think that something could be done about it rather easily, if we got together and bitched. Slashdot readers are good at bitching, eh?;)
First of all, would this trademark be valid in other parts of the world? What does International Class 42 mean?
Also, I was under the impression that Linus had a trademark on the linux name. I might be mistaken, though.
Since this company is taking actions that are not in the free software spirit, can we write SuSE to revoke this dealer's license and spread the love to other retailers?
Also, what kind of effect could we have on the Uruguay(an?) government?
Just some questions to get ya'll thinking.... hope there's some lawyers out there. Good ones like CmdrTaco and Hemos mentioned earlier today.:)
I know that some of the S/390's come in massively parallel configurations - like 12. Well, OK, it's massively parallel for me. Does the kernel have a limitation on the amount of processors? I thought that it was four per box.
You raise a very good point - however, linux is a superbly multitasking OS, right? I've run apache very successfully off of a p200, and I surmise that encoding would also run off a p200 quite well. Take into account the 100MHz FSB, and how sdram is easier and cheaper to find than edo simms, plus 1/2 the basic hardware (ie nic, case, powersupply, vidcard) and I still think a single machine is the way to go.
I would say that a G4 would probably be overkill. Although LinuxPPC is seemingly fast and very secure, I don't think that you need that much power to do what you want. If you want a bunch of power, you can always pick up a couple of Celeron's and an Abit BP6 - but I have a feeling that a p2-400 would probably do your job. The thing to worry about would most likely be bandwidth. I don't know how bandwidth-intense streaming audio is, but if you run a website off of it too, you have to consider good bandwidth. If you're on the campus ethernet network, I'd say you're good to go. Also, this isn't the BEST time in the market to say this, but in my experience, everything runs better when it's loaded up with plenty of RAM.
I know that everyone is saying, "Yeah, not surprised it was a hoax..." but, as the author said, there could possibly be a real distro like this. What I find surprising is that in an open source community that people are so unwilling to believe or encourage an effort like this. People are almost religious about their distro, so why not have a distro about a religion? Makes sense to me. What really surprised me was roblimo's email - and his 'update' on this story. Come on Robin, I thought you were supposed to be a respectable journalist -- and you have to be with such a huge following. He was very quick to 'crucify' this 'distro' and he had his reasons - I respect him for that. But to say "I have his real name, passwords, etc, neener neener..." is just childish and irresponsible of him, IMHO. Not saying I would use it, and I did think that some things were over-the-top, but a couple of things would be cool add-ons. Like the fortune files and the hierarchical user structure (like everyone else has said, I know). But I really don't think that posting the story and then posting up an 'I told you so' is the right way to go. I think that Hemos' post was sufficient. So I think a lot of you are going over the top, IMHO. And 'I told you so's' aren't going to make any difference.
I thought I stated those were illustrations. I could not get the high degree of tesselation that I wanted, I was just trying to ILLUSTRATE tesselation. And the screens are what they gave me. I saw textured, shaded, mapped models.
Actually, I was there last week, and I can say that it runs kick-ass fast fully textured and environment mapped. They didn't provide us with any of those screenshots unfortunately, only the shaded models. But if you check back at my site in the next couple of weeks, I should have benchmarks on fully lit, textured, and mapped models. Did you check out the tree? It's freaking amazing.
Damn. I was hoping this would get linked up on the front page.:) Oh well, I took a trip to NVIDIA last week, and I'd love it if you guys checked my article out: riva extreme - geforce 256 coverage
There's a LOT of differences between cards. Look at something like the Gainward, then the v3800 deluxe, then the Canopus - this is why we have sites (like mine) to review cards. and the RAM - everyone seems to use different configurations, and it does make a difference. The ERAZOR III has 4, the v3800 deluxe has 8, and the Guillemot has 16. From the cards that i've played with, 8 is the most overclockable/stable.
for the poor ones that get caught. I know what they did was wrong bla bla bla, but in most cases they are awesome programmers, and are doomed to never touch a computer again. Personally, I wouldn't survive too easily...
I don't know how good of a move that was for him. I'd say usually the people that shell out bucks for Sun stuff are usually pretty concerned about the privacy and security of the data that goes on those systems. I'm not saying that i disagree with him though....

Take care,
If you had read the letter, you'd have seen that IT'S IN ENGLISH ON THE RIGHT SIDE.
.ch is switzerland. This is the non-offensive linuxtech. Please moderate down, moderators! :)

Thanks. I just hope that everyone realizes that not everyone is a well established junkie yet - I knew where to get them but maybe some folks did not.
They have an audio version still up right here for those that missed it. Took a little searching. :)

Isn't a layer 4 switch a lot of $$$? Can you point me to some models? I'd like to look into that. I love networking gear. :)

Playing quake is fine by me.
I'm installing Linux for the first time this coming week... I hope I can wholeheartedly agree with Linus. : ) -am
Yeah, they are all still there.. the links between pages even work. So if you missed it like me you can go check it out.

anyone know where i can find detailed info on this system? go ahead and email me.
thanks.
