yeah, but at least here we won't have to deal with a cocky, immature admin like rusty. and most of the posts here will probably be more substantive than "I like this one, post it."
They didn't say junkbuster was new. They said new products like junkbuster are coming out.. That "like" doesn't mean that junkbuster is one of the new products, but rather that there are new products that are similar to junkbuster.
It says a lot about the slashdot community when a comment such as the above is moderated up to 5, Insightful. I say it says a lot about the community because not only does the poster speak for himself, but the moderators who moderated the above up, and those that have not subsequently moderated it down, are spoken for as well.
So, people, which is it? Do you all really only use Napster for music you already own, or do you really agree with the spirit exhibited above? I know the above post doesn't explicitly deal with Napster, but when a post such as the above is 5, Insightful, you have to admit that a propsensity for piracy is strongly indicated.
Oh, and please don't say that the above poster is just advocating cracking the film only for the pure enjoyment of cracking it. Remember, he did say "An I would enjoy watching a film I cracked (or recieved a cracked copy of) way more than watching a film I paid for." That " or recieved a cracked copy of " says an awful lot.
The Amazon ship dates aren't anything to be trusted. That's not saying that the date on the page isn't correct, but the only reason that Amazon has that date is that Blizzard has been saying for months that the game would be available on June 30.. this isn't anything new.
BTW: for the curious: it seems Blizzard is using SunOS (Solaris?) for their servers. Go Unix..
And they're using Exodus to host the servers, just like slashdot. I bet slashdot has some sort of clause in their contract with Exodus that gives them direct access to the Battle.Net servers.
you didn't forget to hit preview, you forgot to look at the fucking article first, you fucking idiot. i'm sorry, i don't care if this is going to lose me karma. i really don't care. this fucking idiot needs to be called out.
At this point, regardless of the circumstances, I wouldn't eat the meat. -- Day 7
Hah.. does anyone find it amusing that he only makes that comment on Day 7? I mean, it's good to know that he definitely wouldn't eat it from Day 7 on..but I was just operating under the assumption that maybe after Day 1 he had given up thinking about that..
And neither was Slashcode. I actually was hired by Rob way back when to slap together Slashcode for him. I still get hired for consulting. He gave me $1000 and a new Dell at the time. Had I known it would get this big I'd have asked for a chunk of the advertising revenue.
Exactly my point. I don't give a crap if his paying the $35 was ethical or unethical. I was trying to bring that to the attention of the poster who claimed he was legitimate because his actions were ethical.
Very sound logic, actually. If you've ever thought about or studied the subject of ethics at all, you'd know that there are more conditions that need to be met for an action to be ethical other than it just "not being unethical."
Are you kidding? I'm sorry, but that's just ludicrous. His action was in no way driven by ethics. Just because it wasn't "unethical" doesn't make it an "ethical" action.
but he already got a favor back.. they sent him a $5,000 check, which he ended up auctioning off for much more than that (although he did do it for charity).
what makes him think he's someone to be taken seriously? just because he sent in a $35 check and got a lot of publicity? This may sound like flamebait, but it's a serious question. I don't know.. just because someone has gained fame among a particular crowd doesn't mean that he can start preaching to that crowd. Yes, it was neat that he sent a check to NSI. But does that really make him an expert on anything?
This is slightly-OT, but I thought it was interesting. The current "state of the art" in web-based AI is the "AliceBot." It's a conversation bot that won an international competition for AI.. it was dubbed the "most human computer." It's pretty interesting, but as you play around with it for a while, you'll get the impression that it really isn't all-too advanced. While I realize that AI that generates conversation may be much more difficult than any AI you're planning on coding, I still think it's interesting to look at the current leader in the field. I'm sure trying to make a computer seem "human" and trying to use AI to tailor web experiences are two different things, but I still think there's a cross-over.

I'm sorry, I'll take the karma hit on this one. I'll even start it at 2.
Ineffective? I doubt it. I'm sure it'll work just fine. Inefficient, maybe.

Actually, no, not 4, 3. Originally it might have been 4 CDs.. But take a look at this post by Blizzard employee Geoff Frazier.

that dark clothing attracts mosquitos? indeed!

with cool eyes. that is all.
do you guys post copyrighted material on your messageboards? if not, then this doesn't apply to you at all.

That's a joke. Get it? There are a bunch of witty responses like that built in. It's really not that dumb..although it is still pretty dumb...
Pre-programmed? I think anything with any shred of intelligence could come up with these responses on its own!
