  3. You forgot one, people on Other Uses For The Linux RAM Disk? · · Score: 1

Ramdisks are ideal for laptops, where accessing data in memory doesn't eat battery life as fast as moving around all those mechanical parts in order to do a disk seek. At least in the old days, when you copied all your system software + a couple important applications to a ramdisk, it'd boost battery life considerably.

  6. so what's your point? on Michigan "Anti-Hacker" Law's First Felony Charges · · Score: 1

Under the common law, it was permissible for police to use deadly force to apprehend any felon. Since then, felonies have been expanded to include nonviolent crimes, and such a categorical permission is no longer constitutional. How lives could be "in danger" from someone's cracking into a corporate website is uncertain.

Thought you might want to know. Maybe you were looking for "cellophane", which unlike kleenex or xerox, doesn't have an alternative equivalent in the English language and therefore is no longer Dupont's trademark. It's not enough that a trademark be commonly adopted as a general term -- it also has to be the only term available.

  20. throw-away card == thrown-away money on AmEx To Offer "Disposable" Credit Card Numbers · · Score: 3

A disposable credit card is an interesting idea, but unless it's possible to refill the card (thereby defeating part of the reason for having one), it means we'll have the same problem we have with disposable phone cards: they get thrown away with money still on them. After normal use, there's always a small balance that can't be spent through normal use, and the credit company will stand to rake it in as pure profit.

Seems the Department of Information Services (Ministry of Propaganda) was out in the field, taking "the Revolution" to the people: explaining the fundamentals of Socialism to the populace to bolster popularity. A member of the Department was out talking to a farmer in Siberia...

Official: So you see, comrade, dat it iz de way Marx explained: "From each according to his abilities, to each according to his needs." You understand?

That said, if you or somebody you know has code in KDE whose copyright we really are violating, please speak up and send an email to kde@kde.org so that we may fix the issue. In case of doubt, we have compiled three documents: one listing all modules in KDE and the license it follows[2], one listing all copyright holders in all code inside of the KDE CVS[3], and one with all copyright holders email addresses[4]

Why can't they send an email to all the addresses they have, and post a list of the ones that bounced? Why do they insist on having it be the initiative of the code's authors?

Whether or not RMS is being petty, it would be easy for them to comply with his wishes if they do have all the information they're saying they have.
