    Possibly "Return To Zork", where on the very first screen, you cut the bonding plant with the knife rather than just pulling it out, and you carried on your merry way, recording all 6 jokes and replaying them at the comedy club, solving the tiles, collecting the disk pieces just to discover your plant was dead and you had to go through the whole thing again :-(

    (Mind you, Rebecca was hot, even after she'd sparked you out)

    Why must EVERY conversation on privacy boil down to a few tired questions about "open source" alternatives ?

    What, like if the source code is open, then that will prevent backdoors ? Erm hello, the client software isn't the problem, it's the network of Skype servers the bloody data passes through that is the weak point in the equation.

    So who do you trust more with your privacy ? A multi million dollar company, or some nerd in his moms basement, acting as a VOIP connectivity server. In my case, I'd chose option "none of the above", but really ... open source is not the answer to ALL the worlds ills.

    So rather than take the plans for the left hand widget and turning it out on a milling machine, we spend billions in reinventing the widget because a wodget is "so much more advanced you know, and we can definately do what we did 40 years ago in a nother 10 years minimum".

    There's a nice little add on for Firefox called "Live HTTP Headers", which shows all requests made from the browser. This includes the actual request by Flash to fetch the FLV file, so you get the full URL of the request, paste it back into the address bar, and choose save as file. Easy.

    Let the FLV pr0n downloads begin.

    I have a 19 year old currently doing BS Computer Science. I just watched her take the whole weekend to complete a project that should have taken at most 2 hours. The reason ? She has her music playing, cell phone at the ready, and no less than 3 distinct messenger clients and 2 email clients open. Any interruption from any of these 7 sources cause her to stop working to either change the track, answer the SMS, answer an IM or reply to an email. I try to explain to her that perhaps if she shut the bloody lot off for 2 hours, and simply CONCENTRATED on what she was doing, she could be done in no time and then have the whole weekend free to "socialize" online. But I'm the one "out of touch" :-(

    You know, funnily enough, my existing SSL on my browser is ALREADY encrypted sufficiently to avoid decrypting the original message ... so tell me, why should I go to the trouble of yet more hooks into my system just so I can send my packets over TOR and hide my IP address ... thus screwing up ANY system that relys on a steady IP to identify myself to that system.

    I don't know the exact percentage, but circa 50% of all methane in our atmosphere is caused by cows farting ... do you advocate the mass culling of cows to sustain gaia ???

    Yes exit nodes are a problem. I think this is one area where we need to concentrate. This is why we need security and unix gurus!

    ... but soothing pinks and intuitive greens are all very well for the more "arty" amongst us, but spend 7 years looking at the same damn interface and you'll crave for a bog standard grey, white and black color scheme, with minimal icons that actually MEAN something ...

    Half my time as programmer is taken up in making the most used functions topmost and leftmost in the window, and creating shortcuts to make things move faster ... why click on that "forward" button 1000 times a day, when you *KNOW* that is what the user will *always* do anyway ... shortcut it to auto-forward etc.
