Well, i don't fit the profile ( I play f-ball, can't eat pizza cuz im lactose intolerant) but still i learned something. Don't know why im writing this, 'cept im trying to get as many posts as jd (whoever he is).
Well, ok the title's misleading, but it insures a greater readership...:P anyway, i noticed that all of the top 10 had to do with communication: The tv and radio and computer obviously, but also others: The Matchbox has for decades now been used as advertising for bars and hotels. And of course for writing down members of the opposite sexes phone numbers when in bars and resteraunts. Blow driers also serve as communication: the American Poetry of Bathroom Graffiti oft resides here. Just my 2 (well, i'd use the cent button but i've never found it). ********************* V3rgEZ@hotmail.com ********************* Don't tell me you haven't read your shakespeare? (Hint: MUCH ADO 'BOUT NUTHING)
Currently, the US is operating on a set of laws that are, at least, centuries old. What the techies philosophy is based on is really only decades old (well, ok: it does resemble eastern philosophy, but i'll simply ignore the facts here.) Anyway, the values are just too different too work together, as a previous post touched upon. Until the general mode of thought of the American Pyche changes, it will remain this way-- you get what you work for vs. the commen good. Just like another Cold War (Ok that's a little bit strong, but the philosphies are the same) Until then, techies just have to make sure that they have their own *system* that works within the legal system (such as the open source movement) while giving monetary help to any Comarades who fall to the *other side*.
Once there was a young man, full of Vim and Vigor (Not to Mention Extremely High Percentages of Caffienated Beverages). His name was say, oh, Slashdot. One day, after seeing THE MATRIX and feeling rather clever that he saw the "Hidden Theology" of Neo being Jesus, he walked into the street, where he promptly was hit by a big, red truck. Happily, however, His palm V survived in its nifty A-Bomb proof case. Slashdot didn't.
Well, if our commerce, society, and technology do become more organic and fluid, we must deal with something that all complex organisms face, and the larger the organism, the more often it faces it: Cancer. In our society, this cancer is large corporations, in his: smooth talking manipulators. In a fast paced world, quick decisions must be made people who are influential speakers will soon controll more and more of this "Fluid" society, creating blockage and clotting. Whenever a political or moral debate occurs, more blockage, adding to stagnation. Soon enough: "lights out in Europe".
Unfortunately, this looks like just another attempt by a fading star to regain their celibrity. From another view though, it's the lone ranger crusading for basic human rights (EG Not to be portrayed as a pokemon card.) Still, that much money is very, very excessive. I severely doubt that it hurt his reputation that much.
Well, it depends if the "newbie" is a "G.I.T."*, or just a bandwagon hopper. A GIT is willing to sit down and think 'bout the problem, not wanting an instant solution, but rather enjoying the process of problem solving ----- Ain't that corny? Well, a concise newbie guide would be really nice, though it would have to be easy for newbies to get to --- maybe packaged with the program? Just my 2cents (where is that darn button anyways?)
Well, Bicentennial Man comes only shortly after the Poistroinic Brain was invented, centuries before the first worlds (besides earth) are colonized. So, the Zeroeth Law hasn't been "invented" for at least a couple a centuries. Even the 3 are fairly still only roughly put into the robots at this point.
