  1. It's all about reducing space on MP3 Player in a Watch · · Score: 1

Things are getting smaller and smaller, it just amazes me.

Though the day I'll be really impressed is when my girlfriend is going to play her MP3's out of her earrings :P

Another silly idea: Nike, Adidas, Reebok or whoever could make MP3 shoes. To listen to your MP3's, you always have to run, when you stop, the MP3's stop. (With proper IrDA communication, you could double the available memory, and you could do stereo music with your left and right shoes)

Radio waves containing MP3 information? This could save a bit of bandwidth (read: more channels in a certain amount of bandwidth), and could be a real appliance. AM, FM, FM/MP3 radios. :)

  2. What 2000 really reserves us on Time Digital's Technology Predictions for 2000 · · Score: 1

    Doom will come upon us!!

Of course, I'm talking about Doom 2000, though I'd like to know if it's a REAL project, now if John Carmack could confirm here..! If Wolfenstein 2000 *IS* in development, why not Doom 2000? I'd classify that as an instant success, no matter whatever happens on this earth.

    Here are my real predictions:

    (1) Microsoft open-sources Windows, in an attempt to desperately get back the PC OS market, now dominated by Unix. Silly bugs are now exposed to the world. Countless heart-attacks folllow.

    (2) Red Hat buys AOL, in a big conspiracy to dominate the world. The new AOL installer, AOL 6.0, is really a RH7 distro. Linux suddenly takes 60% of the OS market in North America.

    (3) 3D Realms once again scrap the current engine for Duke Nukem Forever, seeing that the Quake III Arena engine is now superior to Unreal's. DNF will now use the Q3A engine, and is now expected to be released in 2001, around 6 months later than its original planned release.

    (4) The invention of the UV monitor. The UV radiation coming straight from your monitor will help you get a beautiful tan right at home! Impress girls with your sweet natural-looking tan while talking about how great was your virtual trip. You never have to go sunbath again! (CAUTION!!): Sunglasses required for your eyes health.

  3. today's (Jan 4th) UF is a blast on Scott Kurtz Blasts Comic Strips on Tech Support · · Score: 1

This is one of the funniest I've read, definitely. Reminds me of a war I had with my whole family, during the holidays :)

  4. Recorders on Top 10 Gadgets of All Time · · Score: 1

I think they forgot one of the most important invention of all times: immortalizing, recording audio, video, photos.

When I think I can press play 5000 times in a day to listen to my favorite tune, or watch my favorite movie whenever I want, or put on paper the most dazzling landscapes I have ever seen. I think these are awesome gadgets that shouldn't be avoided.

Video games could be taken in consideration, but I think they can already be classified in the Computers section.

  6. Apogee Follows The Open Source Wave on Quake 1 GPL'ed · · Score: 2

    For Immediate Release

Garland, TX - In the age of free software releases, president of Apogee Software, Scott Miller, has just announced that he will release the source code for one of his most successful shareware title to date, The Adventures of Kroz.

"People only knows how to make 3D games today", said Miller. "By releasing The Adventures of Kroz to everyone, I hope to share the knowledge of moving ASCII characters around", he said.

We have been in contact with some very reliable sources from Apogee/3D Realms that there is already some groups working on an updated version of The Adventures of Kroz, supporting Direct3D, OpenGL, and Glide. "This will be an enormous contribution to the open source community", he said.

The Kroz series is one of the most successful of all times.

  7. x86 is way outdated on Intel Snags PC Mhz Crown Back From AMD · · Score: 1

We're stuck with old instructions that no one use, which in turns slows down the CPU. We need ludicrous GHz speeds to match CPUs with half and even the third of the MHz speed (PIII/K7 .vs. Alpha anyone? Or even easier to compare, PIII/K7 .vs. G4 Altivec core anyone?). Still, who needs all that number-crunching speed? Well that [TWD] tag suggest some clan game playing, therefore I need all that speed, especially for Q3, and to continue checking keys for d.net and to hope to get that 2k euros prize after CSC finishes. :) Besides that, I wouldn't need anything better than a i386, linux, and an old (read: quick) word processor ! (Oops I forgot XMMS.. ok let's say a P90...)

  8. Why should governments buy from private industry? on Brazilian Gov't May Pass Pro-Free Software Law · · Score: 1

Like if the gap between the rich and the poor isn't already large enough. The government isn't there to enrich the rich, it should be to the service of everyone! Therefore going to free software is the way to go.. and all governments should do the same - of course the software should be trusted too.
