I've actually tried to follow this principle, and I must agree that for the first few years I did get walked all over. I knew it, even if my wife didn't. What has been amazing to see is her turn around. We now work on putting each other first in our marriage. We work together because of this, and it strengthens every aspect of our marriage. For those nay-say individuals out there, our sex life has increased over the years and is more frequent now than it ever has been.
And if we are still in our honeymoon phase, then I hope the next 13 years are as good as the last 13 years have been.
That said, it isn't easy. Anyone telling you something different is lying to you. There are difficult times; there are times when you may feel helpless, but these are fleeting, and if you can endure those well, your marriage and your love for one another will certainly grow and mature. Work through the difficult times together, focus on each other, and have a clear goal, a long term goal, that you both want to achieve. This will give you both a sense of purpose as you walk down the path of your marital experience together.

I didn't read anywhere in these documents where it said the directing of the behavior of citizens was the primary role of government. In fact, I read that keeping the peace is the primary role and the laws and ordinances passed are to be designed to keep the peace.

There were some areas where states had reservations that the government would actually self-limit so they set explicit "Shalt-not" scenarios in the Bill of Rights, but in truth the government should be limited to what is listed within the constitution.
I don't know how the NY constitution reads since I don't live in that state, but I would imagine it has many similarities to the US constitution.

What your seeing is exactly what they wanted. It may be being abused but it was the intent. The abuses seem more damaging now that people want to think the federal government is supposed to be over the people and not just a governing body for the states to control common business associated with the state.

However, on a 2 year basis, the electoral cycle (for the House and 1/3 of the Senate) turns into "Tyranny of the masses" as you state because the masses refuse to become educated regarding those that would represent them. They listen to appeasing, yet empty, promises and vote on those without knowing the history or character of those they are voting for.

I personally believe that the school district, and the offended party in particular should have the capability to pursue statutory damages if this is something that is truly libelous or damaging to the career of the educator. The deal would have to get approval from not only the US, but also the EU who have stated that they aren't too keen on approving any deal that would give any company more than 50 percent of the market share in a particular area. That is why they claim to have blocked the merger of GE and Honeywell. Wouldn't this deal give MS more than 50% market share in certain Internet software?
I've had a large number of different experiences in differing places. I currently like the situation I am in right now, but here is what I have experienced.
When working at a community college, I was allowed to take courses there for no fees. This did allow me to get an Associates degree there, but they didn't pay for much (if any) outside training. I went to one course the entire 5 years that I was there.
After moving to a dotcom, I did go to one training (not bad for only being there 6 months). This training directly related to my job and what they needed me to do, so they were able to justify it.
I have now moved on to an extremely small division of a division of one of the larger companies in the world, and our policy here is that we get 2 weeks of training per year, and they reimburse (assuming a passing grade) for all college education that relates to our job. Last year I ended up going to 3 trainings and a conference through them, but that was under extreme circumstances.
I would submit that unless where you work has no money, you would be justified in asking for 1-2 weeks of training per year and/or at least a partial tuition reimbursement program.
It's not Linux that Microsoft is looking at keeping around. It's the WordPerfect Office Suite. It's one of the last ones out there that has any following at all. And if it goes away, you're right, the DOJ will be screaming "Break-em-up" within seconds.
