It's not what it's used for now, it's what it WILL be used for in the future, once the infrastructure is there to be abused it will be abused.. Have you never read 1984, yes i know it's a cliche, but it is SOO on the money.. How do you disagree with a government that has you under surveilance 24/7? How do you organise a resistance or a revolution without planning with other people? How can this EVER happen when you are under this constant surveillance. The more you hand people the means to control you the more they will try. Do you think it could never get to this stage? Well it will with people like you saying 'So What?' at every turn. These things are never a sudden shock, they are a gradual eroding change.. Barely perceptibly slipping towards complete control, before you know it, complee control IS possible and then it is a matter of time before it IS exerted.. once you are in that situation there is no way out.. Fully automated surveilance with facial recognition and computer controlled tracking of all subjects it's already theoretically possible, the infrastructure just needs setting up.. and THAT is why you should care..
They have already proposed a system that would link to your engine and throttle back if you exceeded the limit.. Hey great can't wait to be overtaking a lorry with someone coming the other way as THAT cuts in!
Yay full quality DVD rips, no crappy Divx lovely Mpeg2, so I already need over 200 gigs at that estimation to house my collection.. damn, does anyone make a DVD video jukebox?
Now that just roxxors my boxxors! that's a lot of space!I would still end up filling it with useless junk, my crap tends to expand to fill the HD space strange that...
I have seen these around and about, never used one yet tho, sounds like a cool idea. Now all we need to do is get BT to change every box in the country to an Internet box and Blairs UK Online vision can become a reality! Cheaper than a laptop and an acoustic coupler in a regular phonebox.
BTW are these the ones with a glass touchscreen or the ones with the Metal KB? Cos i have seen both, but IIRC the touchscreen ones allow you to surf the web too.
Hhaha I am watching gamenetwork now http://www.gamenetwork.net/ the girl presenting is blatantly Italian and it sounds like her script has been run through the fish! "Over here I have been playing the game of today for much high prizes" hahaha I love amateur TV channels..
Yeah it's called Game Network, but whenevr I watch it it is always either endless footage of some game to dodgy porno music or it's in italian?? I have seen them talking in english once, maybe I have my sound setup wrong!?:)
yeah, most of my calls are a quick 30 second affair ie, 'I'm on my way home now' or 'I'll be a bit late' etc, I reserve the big talking for my free minutes. That's exactly why I love SMS, no need to interrupt someone to get them to the phone, just txt them and they can read it when they like and it doesn't demand an immediate response..
Oh wait, the reason European users won't do that is because they pay PER CALL
Last time I checked the UK is in Europe, and I know of no network in the UK where you pay per call, when roaming in France, Spain, Portugal and Greece I have also always payed per minute. Where did this idea we pay per call come from?
Hey when do we get to see the Tower Block style interface seen in Hackers? Complete with silly lit up tune playing keyboards! I can't wait to fly round like and electron inside my puter..

What we think we have found out is that ATi has written their most recent public driver set with Quake 3 Arena in mind. How is that you ask? Well, it seems that there are Quake 3 specific instructions in the Windows 2000 Radeon 8500 drivers version 5.13.01.3276 that are available as the latest driver download from the ATi site.
I say good on em, why not, if all these benchmarking sites use Quake 3 for comparisons then they should expect to have the vendors gear their hardware towards it.. Makes sense, you could equate it to the AMD re-naming.. Almost Meaningless numbers that get ppl excited..
you do loose all the benefits of a digital camera this way, namely being able to print out the pics yourself, at your leisure, in your own home.. I assume there will also be no LCD (aricle doesn't mention) to preview the pics and see if they are any good, this is a function I often use on my camera, if the picture is crap, I take another...
The screensavers are actually pretty effective, as when you are sat at a machine, usually U are surrounded by empty machines, all running this huge 17 inch add that changes every few seconds, so you do see the adds, i could probably tell you off the top of my head all the ones being advertised this week (ebay, workthing, firebox, blackstar, gadgetshop etc..) so it is pretty effective I would say.. You're right though the dektop app just gets hidden by your browser window or whatever you got loaded, so no biggie, it's just the disabling of Taskman that pisses me off...Grrrr
just reading the screentime site and noticed they reckon around £60-80 per machine, at a rough estimate i'd say there are around 3000 public machines ie Library etc plus countless others in departments (we have around 300) so that'd be around £250,000 thats almost $370,000, not bad I suppose.. but probably a drop in the ocean compared to the overall budget even for my department..
I'm at Liverpool University doing EEng, and we have had this for months, it's called Screentime and it sux, it is NOT i repeat NOT a screensaver, it is a huge window in the top right corner of the desktop (about 1/4 of it) and it has clickthrough banner ads in it.. The thing that really gets me pissed is that they have disabled the task manager to stop ppl from closing it, which is all well and good until something actually crashes and you 'shock horror' actually need Taskman... sucks a large amount...
668 the neighbour of the devil...

I thought Barry White was the Walrus of love, not the Shark of Love??? strange!
Thanx for the links.. cool.. now all I need is a home entertainment network to connect it to and distribute across the house!

Reminds me of that cool site where U can set the SMTP headers and send anonymous mail to freak ppl out, mischiefmail.com methinks..

So what others have said would seem to be true..

What's the point? if you have to take it back to the shop U might as well use a normal camera and get the pics developed in 1hr??? just why???
