Wow.. Sorry for your rough life!

I can identify, though not "know" how you felt.

I moved around a bit when I was young. Once was attacked as a child by a mob of 1st and second graders because in their language (it wasn't english!) it was portrayed to them that it was O.K. to kick and hit me. This was done by a small group of kids my age. They were even told that I would not fight back.

Imagine a ton of little kids swarming you. You can't hurt a child (even if you are one, you know that hitting a little kid is NOT O.K.) I was pinned on a fence and punched, and kicked repeatedly, and laughed at while getting a few jabs from the older kids, it was really quite scary.

Suddenly when I moved on to 7th grade, I had a HUGE growth spurt. One of the kids who used to pick on me all the time punched me in the face on the first day of school. I laughed at him, and said I wouldn't do that again if I were you. He didn't bother me from then on, but incited his friends to. I felt bad about it, but I beat the crap out of anyone who challenged me, soon, everyone left me alone. Then I moved to WA and the whole thing started over. Kids are just mean to kids they don't know.

I was horribly anti-social. I didn't want anything to do with people who were so cruel, and just assumed that everyone was like that. I didn't get over my anti-social behaviors until I started drinking/ smoking pot ~'95. I was 17 or so. I graduated Highschool because of a few good teachers who encouraged me when they saw I was failing. (luckily I didn't have them against me). By some stroke of luck I managed to get out of that circle where EVERY one of my friends ended up braindead, stupid, poor, or some combination of the above.

I am sick and tired of paying for my cable modem and router to recieve crap packets, and making my router discard them. It's like junkmail on a HUGE scale. (except that the bits are tiny....)

Seriously though, I have a few clients who REFUSE to get a router / firewall. They insist that since it (the internet)works, they don't need it. Even after telling them that benefits for them (and me), even w/ charging them $0.00 to install the damned thing. People have wierd mentalities sometimes.

I generally refuse to do spyware removal more than one time per client, and then only if it's a stellar fast machine. It's too expensive even if I charge 1/2 my rate. It takes too long, and isn't usually worth it for me or them.

  5. Re:60 times ? That'd make them 600% efficient. on New Solar Panel Design Traps More Light · · Score: 1

    It's not linear.

Efficiency is directly related to cost. Your not buying electricity, your buying a system to make your electricity.
For example. It's like investing in a cow vs. investing in milk.

If your pannels become signifigantly more efficient, and the cost stays the same or slightly increases, or even increases w/ the % of efficiancy gain, you have several advantages.

    1. more w/$
    2. less space needed /w
    3. potential for higher total capacity

So if the it becomes maybe 10% more efficient, but the cost goes up 10% per panel, it's still better in the long term.

    Think of it this way.

Say you have a 200 hp car that cost $20,000 USD.

would you pay $2000 for 50 extra horses? what about an extra 1500? 1000? 400? Many people who know & are concerned about performance would pay whatever it costs to gain that extra bit of oomph. 2000 for a constant 50hp gain isn't that bad, and is GREAT if it's only 1000. You get that extra 50 hp every time you put your foot to the floor. That's why turbo's on imports are so popular (yes I know the scale is diferant, just making an example). For about 5-7000 you get a 40-60% boost in power! 50 hp is a sig. dif in feel and hp/weight ratio. Also, it's a gain that will be there for the life of the car.

The life of the cell is what your banking on, not it's initial cost.

Another good example is a mortgage. Actually it is better. Would you refinance your 30yr mortgage to a lower rate if you could? What if it cost you 5K? what if it cost you 10K? if you have a 300000 dollar mtg., and can shave a % pt for 10k your doing alright in the long term. If you can do that for 5k, your doing really well.

I think if we were to do an expirement, we could show that one platform is better than the other for certain games. For instance, lets pit 10 servers of 10 random PC UT3 players on the same team as 10 Random console players. But if we were to do the same w/ a driving game I think we would get opposite results.

Show me someone who can out circle strafe a pc player on x-box, and I'll show you someone who is using a mouse. (or one who doesn't know how!)

Then show me someone who can play a game at 2048x1536 on a console. (Just kidding, I know there are some limitations. Resolution for consoles, Screen size for PC's)

Yeah, I am a fanboi for PC. I admit it, but I CAME FROM CONSOLES. I started not w/ MUD's but w/ NES/Super NES, TurboGFX 16, Sega genesis, then I saw Quake, and Descent. I have never seen a reason to go back, despite trying (a console is about the cost of ram/video card, and I'd prefer to spend $ than I have to) I just can't do it. And I am happy to admit, it might just be me, however I still can't do 3D spherical motion on a console.

Now, in all honesty, I won't play a sports game on a keyboard/mouse. I won't play a driving game either. Consoles controlers are far superior for that genre. I sometimes wish I had a console to play some Zelda, or Madden, but that is where I draw the line. A P.C. w/ a good pad is a great platform for gaming, but development for PC sucks right now and choice is limited.

Seriously, with a little more detail, why do you feel FPS, MMORPG's, etc.. could be better on a console. I just don't see it, and would love to be enlightened.
