I own a Blu-Ray player, and I've never had any of these issues.

Granted, that may be because its a PS3. However, last I checked the PS3 was the most popular DVD player.

No titles yet have been encoded with ICP, which reduces image quality on non-HDCP TV's. I've never heard of a player not wanting to work with SPDIF. If it has the port, why wouldn't it be supported? No, you won't get 7.1 HD Master Audio with optical out, but that's a limitation of the hardware. Besides, if you have a stereo that does 7.1 Master Audio, it has HDMI. End of story.

I will admit that the shifting spec is stupid. However, at this point in the game, it's all early adopters, and the vast majority of them can handle tech talk.

There are mountains and there are molehills, and you are confusing the two. The republican party is no more damaged by his ignorance than the Democratic party by ignorance on the other side.

If we take everyone to task for "untruths," as you put them (note: ignorance and lying, though both bad, are NOT the same thing), 90% of politicians on BOTH sides would be gone.

Furthermore, you imply that Affirmative Action gives work to people who don't deserve it. To say this would imply that only a single applicant is ever qualified for a position; this is so rarely the case.

I have worked at a small company that was not bound by Affirmative Action, and it worked to my detriment. My employer refused to hire black and hispanic employees, and I spent three weeks looking for a "qualified applicant," despite the fact that several crossed my desk.

You have got to be kidding me. Did you just compare a bunch of old, rich, white people -- old, rich, white people who have held the presidential office for 20 of the last 28 years -- to minorities?

    How is that even comparable?

Now, now, two wrongs don't make a right.

There isn't much for under $500, and a lot of those posts are deceptive; some are listed at per-week or per-day cost.

Food can be cheap in the city, but I don't think I've seen a filling meal for less than six dollars. Of course, what one considers filling (or a meal!) can be subjective.

Chicago is cheaper than most major cities, but it's still a pretty expensive place to live. My immediate family moved 50 miles north to McHenry county, but even there things are starting to get expensive. In '04-'06, my rent ranged from $860 for an overpriced two-bedroom to $725 for a nice one-bedroom. I found this studio in Skokie in March of '07. and I broke my lease just to make sure I could grab it. I've lived on the North Side most of my life. The South Side is cheaper, but finding employment there is more difficult. I currently drive around 17 miles into the northern suburbs for work, which is less-than-stellar. Unfortunately, there isn't much in the way of public transit once you leave the city proper.

Lived in Chicago for less than $12,000 a year? Nonsense. I've been on my own in Chicago for seven years, and even making a little more than twice that(pre-tax) I have to keep myself incredibly tightly budgeted. And I have some incredibly low rent($510 a month for a small studio). Either you lived on steamed rice in public housing, or you are exaggerating. Period.
