You, the earthquake was big and so the wave. Sure this was a big catastrophe.
But have you thought radioactive fuel in spend fuel pool of Fukushima, if the now destabilised spend fuel pool get a big crack so that the water runs out? I think it is very likely that you don't need an earth quake as big as the one from March 10 to get this done...
1) The current problems are just happening while the earth around is half way stable and not shaking too much. But what will happen if a half way decent earthquake is hitting the area of Fukushima? What will then happen to all those water tanks which seem already now to have bigger problems on a regular basis? What will happen to all the other sensitive parts of the nuclear plant whose structure is already badly damaged from the previous tsunami.
2) How many decades will the damaged poweplant still have to survive before it is not anymore a danger?
3) How frequently are half way decent earthquakes in that region?
I'm sure that the big catastrophy is still comming.. and will come sooner or later...
I fly a lot in the EU and I never had any problems with the security process. I was always treated respectfully and profesional manner.
But flying to the US (which I awoid at any cost, but sometimes I can't) is always an unpleasent thing. In a way the USA has lost already against terrorism since it lets itself be terrorised.
That a country of democracy and "freedom" has its people treated like this is nothing else than shameful...

Well, for me -- not being an artist, but a mathematician -- a Mac just perfoms best. Great huge screen, an OS which just works the way it should, a great TeX distribution, and good choice of programs for surfing the web, reading e-mails and organising my BibTeX references. I for myself have used Linux before and it does a great job but by now I feel more comfortable with my iMac...
After just having seen what information the iPhone stores without the users knowledge I don't want to know how much more information the future smartcar wants to store and give away to different companies and lawenforcement agencies. No thanks.
The time machine stores the back up files on an external hard drive in a specific way such that can perform the backup task and the possible restore task effectively. In order to this to work noone should modify or delete any data stored in the backup location. This will most likely corrupt the backup.
The author of the article told Sophos AV to delete files from within the time machnien backup location... well, of course one can expect that it messes things up.
Are you sure the way we teach calculus hasn't changed at all in that time?
The way we teach calculus has not changed so much that you would need every second year a new revision of a calculus book.
If a new revision is needed every second year, then there has been something wrong with the text book in the first place or there is something wrong with the publisher or both options apply (and somehow I think the latter is the case).
1) That someone opens a fake account in the name of someone else (I presume that happens on a regular basis anyways), or
2) That some cluless idiots (sorry for the harsh words) do exchang SENSITIVE information on Facebook? And then they suddenly wonder how this information got into wrong hands?!
So how does this work? Can you visit a site wearing a 'condom', or do you know, somehow, that you shouldn't click on something.
You know, even a condom does not prevent pregnacy 100%. Neither does the pill. (My neighbors half year young daughter is a perfect example of the latter; which does not mean she is not loved by her parents, quite the contrary!) Same with anty virus programs. Of course you CAN get infected dispite running them. It is just less likely...
If I would have to make decisions in a company, I would block Facebook, Twitter, Youtube and a few other sites which are popular but not necessary for company life. I am aware that a certain amount of private activity is fine in corporate environment, but certain sites draw just far too much time on them on a regular basis.
I for myself do not have a Facebook nor a Twitter account. And I use the Leechblock extension on Firefox to keep me of unnecessary sites during work hours which I otherwise would visit far too often. I know my weaknesses and from some of them I have to protect me myself...
Any ISP who will forward me any such kind of harassment letter will get from me a reply which will tell them that the allegations are completely unjustified (and that I want to see any proofs of them supporting their allegations). I will warn them that if they continue to harass me, that I will with out further notice cancel my contract with them and move to an other ISP. If I receive another letter I will cancel my contract without any further warning. If they refuse to accept my cancellation I will sue them for harassment and I doubt that they will have any evidence whatsoever that I did anything wrong. So they will lose in court (and meanwhile I do have other means to get to the internet if things really go bad)...
