I don't know if any of the albums I've purchased after hearing them on Pandora were under the Warner umbrella but I'll apologize now for hurting the music industry by purchasing music that wasn't being played on the radio. I'm sorry that you can't use those albums to increase your piracy counts.
Apple found a little corner of those markets that wasn't so crowded and grew from there.
Pre-iPod mp3 players, there's a famous/. quote about what geeks thought about the iPod. They were clunky to use and really only made for the geeks. iPod went for the not-so-geek segment.
Sure, the iPhone is a smartphone but Apple isn't taking BB or whoever head on. Apple is doing what Apple does. Find a space for themselves that no one else wants.
Safari? Really? Who markets web browsers these days?
So because we don't have a viable alternative to democrats or republicans we should just vote democrat or republican? Ya, that's a great plan for changing things.
I suppose an OEM being punished by MS if they don't (effectively) exclusively sell only windows is totally different than being forced to buy MS. It's been what, the decade of the linux desktop, so they should have so many other options than MS.
Also why should Apple be forced to subsidize its competition? If someone wants to make a competitor to Apple computers why should they get OS X? They should go and make their own OS to compete with OS X.
Microsoft doesn't make and/or sell their own computers. Windows goes on other companies' machines. Microsoft used agreements with those other companies to their advantage against other OS vendors.
Apple makes their own computer. Apple only puts their OS on their computers. Apple's app store only sells to Apple's own hardware. Apple allows competition between products. You can easily chose not to buy an Apple product and live a happy Apple free life. Apple does not allow competition within its products. It's Apple's store for Apple's hardware. Why should any other company have say over what is and isn't on Apple's store for its own products?
If you can't see the difference between Microsoft's dealings with OEMs and Apple wanting control over Apple product lines you must have some pretty hefty blinders on.
Or you could do something crazy and encode for the device/purpose and not always the ultra-mega-super-duper-everyone-will-be-in-awe-of-my-awesome-resolution-space-and-battery-life-be-damned settings.
"Or you could put a skin on it and tell them it's the latest and greatest new Apple OS that they haven't heard of yet."
This is why it has yet to be the year of the Linux desktop. UI (User Interaction) isn't just how it looks, it is also how it acts. Just slapping an OS X looking skin on Linux does not make it as usable as OS X for someone who is used to OS X. Granny would probably be calling you up to tell you she doesn't like this new "Apple" and wants her old Apple back.
I don't think its just the idea that it's emasculating to be a male nurse but also the legal liability. Remember, every man is a rapist and pedophile and women and children *never* lie.
You could have a billion line program that is perfect except for one = having been mistyped as a ! and despite having everything right but that one character the program could be completely useless.
Plausible deniability only works for the rich and powerful.
For the common man it is just yet another reason that they can get a warrant. They will find something to hang you with if they want to, even if they have to plant it themselves.
If you're using file names on the iPod there is something seriously screwed up with your iPod.
If all the precious umlauts are stored in the song's metadata they'll show back up in the new filename when you drag the song off of iTunes and drop it somewhere. As far as using the iPod as an iPod, the filename should never matter. Using it as a storage device requires third party software anyways so your gripe should be with whatever program isn't properly building the filename from the metadata.
Perhaps Apple doesn't want to support the ever changing linux environment and is bound by contracts to their media partners that media transfers are done through a controlled channel?
Windows is Windows. OS X is OS X. Linux is... Suse? Gentoo? Redhat? Slackware? Gnome? Enlightenment? KDE?
It would probably depend on whether it was a good day or a bad day|week|month|year(s).
There is a difference between being glad to be alive and wanting to remain alive. Usually the people that use the phrase "glad to be alive" haven't suffered enough to understand the difference.
Humans have been doing a good job of avoiding natural selection for quite some time now. Yes, animals give birth without aid because that is their only option. Humans, on the other hand, have had midwives, healers, doctors, the local crone, or some other community support for ages. What we've been naturally selecting for as humans is women and children who can survive assisted births.
Humans also have very bad instincts because instincts aren't our sole survival mechanism. Humans can (and occasionally do) pass on knowledge which overrides instincts. So humans with bad instincts can survive to make more humans with bad instincts.
They probably nerfed the outdoor group quest mobs in the older zones to help people on low pop realms where finding a group can be a monumental task for any zone not in Northrend.
"This wouldn't be so bad except if you could only challenge yourself by fighting more difficult mobs. But the experience as well as level system in WoW highly encourages people to fight mobs that are at most the same level as yourself, or preferably one or two levels below if they want to level quickly."
You can fight higher level mobs. Nothing is stopping you from trying. Here you are trying to have both the fastest grinding speed and very challenging fights. If you were really in it for the challenge the less than optimal experience gain rate wouldn't be an issue.
The bits became physical when they were written to the hard drive so no need to burn them to cds to have something physical.

Thanks for being part of the precipitate.
There are more than two parties...

Isn't Diablo 2 *still* active on battle.net?
Or whack the person with the (other) pad and read at your leisure.
There's a weak point in every scheme.
Or you could do something crazy and encode for the device/purpose and not always the ultra-mega-super-duper-everyone-will-be-in-awe-of-my-awesome-resolution-space-and-battery-life-be-damned settings.
And then get hit with sexual harassment suits and/or stalking charges...

I don't recall anyone turning into a replicant in Blade Runner. People turning out to be replicants, yes. People turning into replicants, no.

Or just set in your preferences to not have iTunes manage your library. But where's the uninformed rant in that?
(FYI metadata is where it's at these days. Storing it in the filename is soooo 90's.)

One person winning the lottery does not mean that all people will win the lottery.
Hemlock, Ebola and botulism are natural. Natural isn't always good for you.
It is interesting how it seems that these days every baby pops out with a medical degree for the mother.
