Take a look at this: "...equivalent to an eight-cylinder engine..." then on this page they quote: "...equivalent to the six-cylinder engines..." then, on the same page they say, "Also planned is a four-cycle, gasoline-powered version, which will burn substantially cleaner than a traditional gasoline-powered engine." Four cycle? What? How can there be four cycles involved in a "wabble" plate. I can see multiple "wabble" plates, but would that then not be equivlent to multiple cylinders?
I will believe it when I see it. For the time being, looks like a nicely put together practical joke to me. People have been claiming for years that they have invented a perpetual motion machines. Once again I say, "show me your code."
Sorry, but there is no such thing as a free lunch, and if something looks too good to be true, it probably is.
It is just sad that many computer geeks see information like this and want to tell everyone else about it in the same way as some of my clueless friends will pass around emails warning you to check phone booths for needles in the coin return slot with a note stating that you now have aids. They are very sincere in the fact that they beleive they are helping and feel this is true. I want a review of this technology from someone whos focus of study is specifically such technology.
Why hasn't anyone just simply started their own ROOTDNS servers? Is there a law against starting your own service that runs over the internet and associates a DNS with an IP? I konw it would be really complex, but it would certainly be interesting to see what happens. Something like, all domains for $1. You could then register any domain you wish...even if the same exact name already existed. People would simply choose to use your DNS, or rely on the existing system.
This is great for the few of us that really do want to live far away from big cities. Those of us who enjoy a quiet evening with the closest neighbors 1.5 miles away. Those of us who are geeks also like the steady hum of bits of data flowing...even out in the boonies. I know that some people think this is a sub-par/not fully thought out desire, but this is what I enjoy.
You are forgetting that they might not keep their data as up-to-date as the US does. Keep in mind typical russian mentality and keep in mind the fact that they are bankrupt.
They are not trying to see if there will be 3" or 4" of rain in 2509. They are determining things such as major climate shifts. We know that the northern part of Aferica used to once be covered in grasslands...now it is harsh desert. We know that iceland used to be much more mild than it is now (there are still many green plants frozen stiff deep under ice). We know that the climate has a tencancy to shift over time affecting things such as rainfall patterns and temperature flucations. These are not caused by a butterfly's wings, these are caused by things such as the earth's tilt/wooble over the course of time. Wouldn't it be interesting to understand the "big picture" more than we do now?
Could this mean that he doesn't have the money, or has choosen to invest a large percent of that in another business venture? Could it be possible that he is simply waiting for some other reason. The reason I conclude this is because there really isn't a good reason to withold the money for the reasons he gave. The reasons to withhold seem to be very weak.
Just my thoughts from very early in the morning w/o much sleep from the night before.
I still think that it would be fun (if I had lots of money and a cargo plane) to load one of those cars onto a cargo plane and fly the plane from one coast to the other and back.
I can see it now, "but sir we are fining you for excess milage and speed because driving our Geo at 650mph is not safe."
amen to that! the only diff I see is that these people playing around w/IEEE802.11b most likely do not have their ham license.
AND, even if they did, they wouldn't be able to use the 2.4GHz band...they would have to use the band that is a bit lower...something like 2.1Ghz if I remember. IE: they are restricted to the ham bands.
You don't know what you are talking about. The FCC allows up to 1 watt of effective radiated power from the antenna for us to use in the 2.4Ghz band...the wavelan (aka orinoco) transmit only 0.03 watts.
Snip:
4. Frequency Hopping Systems. Section 15.247 of the rules permits frequency hopping
spread spectrum systems to operate in the 2.4 GHz band with a maximum output power of 30
dBm (1 watt). The rules specify that frequency hopping systems operating in this spectrum must
use a minimum of 75 hopping channels with each channel having a 20 dB bandwidth not
exceeding 1 MHz. The average time of occupancy on any frequency must not be greater than 0.4
second within a 30 second period.
/snip
BTW, where do you get your $150,000 nonsense? Since when does the FCC have time to bug private citizens unless it is intefering with airport/medical/government communications??? This is why the ham radio freq's have become mostly self-policed. Can you please provide a link to an authortivative source to back up your claim?
Just my $0.02 worth of flame. Sry if I have come on a bit strong. It has just been a long day....don't take it personally.

Yep...saw it there too!
I remember back in high school chemistry calculating how many molecules of licapodium existed on the surface of the water b/c they spread out to approx. one molecule thick if you do it just right. That was just some very cool stuff...we estimated fairly close to what the "real" figure was...still neat playing with the stuff! ---
You are not the only one. Most people in my city (Collegedale) have their mail delivered to the PO boxes at the post office here in town (37315)because this city does not deliver mail to anything other than PO boxes. However the town about 3 miles away (Ooltewah) does deliver mail to the area (using 37363) including our city. So, my mail is currently picked up at the 37315 one, but if I plant a mail box in my front lawn, I can get a 37363 address.
The problem:
Comcast offers cable modem access to 37363 but not 37315 (my town) offically. So, get this...If I specify my address as have the 37315 zip with the exact same street address, comcast says that it isn't available here. However, if I specify the exact same street adderss with the 37363 address, I can order the service.
Oh well. We must think beyond the confines of someone elses databases and the monkeys using them. ---
look at the internals of the HDD...so a single flake of the electromagnetic coating flakes off and floates around inside the drive.....within a few days, or a few years, that flake WILL get between the heads and more of the coating, flaking off more coating, etc. Even after severe drop/shock to a drive, you might not notice anything for some time...I won't consider a drive that has been dropped to be in good shape...I will not use it for any critical data unless it is to be inserted into a RAID5 array. (Even then I make a note on the case of the drive what happened.)
Well, the same issue came up at my job. We talked with management and agreeded to be paid for at least one hours worth of work at time and a half. Even if it is a 3 min call to answer some stupid question, I get 1.5 hours worth of pay. If the task takes more than an hour, I remain getting paid 1.5 times the normal rate.
Well, if you are going this far, why not make it a toaster too? I mean, heck, throw a blender too. That way, you can have it be ripping a DVD while it produces a milk shake. Isn't that what everybody wants?

Can a corporation vote? No. Why? Because it still isn't completely "an individual"
There is much more that you are leaving out of the discussion. However, I will agree that you are right in many respects.

I really wish I could morph them into a G4 Titanium PowerBook though...
I really wish I could morph my 1979 Honda Civic into a 2001 Jaguar XKR Convertible.

Does anyone know what frequencies these sat. phones use?
Just wondering...
MOST COOL! Why hasn't this been modded up to a 4 or 5!?
I just downloaded and compiled it...works VERY well and is VERY fast...nice.
Thanks for letting us know!!!!

Water @212F boils at or below sea-level. When water is under pressure, its boiling point is increased.
So, 250-degree water = steam at (or below) sea level is true. 250-degree water = steam under pressure is not, necessarily, true.
Sorry for sounding rude, but please take a physics class.
