I have worked with NetWare 4.x and 5.x for the last couple of years and while I think it is a great F&P server it is little else. Granted the software is stable as hell but the problem is virtually no one writes NLM's any more, so the software you do find is $$$$$$$ and is more than likely not given great support. I hate to see it happen, Novell had/has a great product but their marketing and pricing structure have kept the small/medium sized shops going to NT and Linux. Oh well. I guess I just have to spend more time on my FreeBSD and Linux boxes..;-)
You also want to know: -what kind of heating/cooling the facility has? -is your equipment going to be off the floor in case of a flood? -what kind of fire supression equipment do they have? -are the NOC monkeys knowledgable? -do they monitor your equipment for you?
It is possible that that effect could take place but as long as there are companies what have to make a profit to please investors then there will be code that is rushed, bloated, buggy, etc because they have to keep producing in order to make money.
Just a note but they were Viet Cong hence the nickname VC. The VC were in fact South Vietnamese who supported, via gorilla war tacticts the regular North Vietnamese Army (NVA). Flame or not stick to facts. This thread is absolutely retarded even for a flame thread. God..
I don't think that Novell is going to go after the Open Source Community because it has very strong ties and dealing with Caldera and I believe a couple of other Linux oriented projects. They are more intelligent than that..
This problem does exist, it is Microsofts fault, the culprit is Dynamic DNS, Microsofts pitiful combination of WINS/DNS. It pretty self explanatory but it doesn't work with legacy DNS (read BIND) so you are basically up the creek if you want to keep existing DNS servers and use Active Directory/DDNS. Active Directory doesn't work without DDNS. Win2000 promoting a heterogenous network environment, no, I think not.
NetWare is great, it does have its faults which if someone wants more info they can mail me for examples but it isn't necessary to post them here. NT more specifically, Windows 2000 will not make it into many production environments because there is virtually no software "certified" for it, which makes the whole Active Directory thing useless because the security risks with non-active directory software are pretty substantial. Microsoft shot themselves in the foot by releasing the latest service packs for NT because now NT is as stable as it will ever be under 4.0 so who is going to want to go from stable to bleeding edge/possibly unstable? It wouldn't make a lot of sense. NetWare and NDS have been around for a while and most of the kinks have been worked out, it is a scalable, enterprise network operating system, it can hold more objects in the Tree than most companies can dream of having and the redundancy that comes with partitioning the Directory is phenominal. With a NetWare/Unix environment who the F*ck neeeds NT?
This is true or should be true for males. sex, race, etc. should never be the factor of flames or the like. It is the 'clue' level of people that generate flames. People who are intelligent don't want to be bothered with stupid and pitiful requests for help or the answer to an irrelevant question. The problem is the Internet has grown exponentially and because of that the 'cluefull' are, as someone pointed out earlier, hopelessy outnumbered by the 'clueless' masses. This in itself is a huge frustration because if the people with clue are few and far between how can one who has a resonable amount of knowledge continue to grow in knowledge if he/she is being bothered with stupid questions from the clueless. I know I have very little tolerance for stupid questions, research can do a lot for you. This has come up on many mailing lists and news groups. Don't have someone hold your hand, live a little and figure it out for yourself. You would be surprised how much you can figure out by reading. In short, expect flames if you don't do research or you ask stupid questions.
Yes, I agree, while I am not amazingly talented at coding I have friends who are, they are naturally talented, while they do read books it seems to be a natural logic that they have. As far as people being offended at the above generalization, get a life, God, if you like what you do (i.e. coding) then who gives a rats a** what people think. And if you do really enjoy coding, you will dedicate ungodly blocks of time to screwing around with code..

Just a note, NDS 8 is scalable to 32 billion objects.
Kamikazes were Japanese, there is a difference between the Vietnamese and Japanese. Any good history book will give you a clue, maybe..
Hispaniola, what the hell are you talking about? It is called Spanish. Have you considered heading back to grade school to get an education?
