    I'm tired of the constant bitching from people who will never buy an iPhone. There is plenty of competition in the marketplace.
    For the record, I'm plenty geeky, I build my own PCs, My netbook runs Ubuntu, but I also don't care about the "openness" of my new iPhone. It does exactly what I need it to do, it runs the apps/games I want, and plays the media I have.

    You want an Android? Knock yourself out. I hear it's a decent phone OS as well.

    Sorry, I assumed that the topic was running the OS in question on native hardware, not through emulation.

    There isn't any DRM in OS X either. It's a matter of drivers, and EFI.

    Until (relatively recently) you *couldn't* run Windows on a Mac.
    Saying Apple has a monopoly is absurd. That's like saying Commodore had an monopoly on the Amiga OS because it only ran on their hardware.

    Apple provided "bumper" cases, which this article specifically states do not cause the problem.
    They did offer 3rd party cases for sale on their site, but they are not the cases that Apple gave to customers.

    To use your abhorrent analogy, they never "hit" anyone. The policy was never implemented. They listened to their customers, how terrible of them.
