As I understand this..the HD's role in this is passive. The software has to actually support the copy protection and handshake with the drive right? What's to stop the crackers from just ripping out the code that initiates the handshake? Isn't that what crackers do? Remove copy protection (cd checks..etc) This doesn't sound very practical.
If/when this gets implemented how long do you think it will take for some bright lad to circumvent it. This will slow down "piracy" only
in the short term while being a pain in the butt for ordinary users. All these companies are forgetting what should be their golden rule "Thou shalt not piss off your customers"
I know this is slightly ot but everytime I try
to find info about it or ask someone who supposedly knows all I get is a load of marketing
buzzwords. What exactly is it?
I'm not a Windows supporter by any means but I've got to take exception to this...I've built several systems out of junk parts and I've only had 1 problem with windows (It was WinME..didn't like my
Etherlink II card). The main problem I've had with Windows was IRQ hell and that's been pretty much ironed out with 2000.
Defender for the 2600? Same place I've found the majority of my 2600 carts...thrift stores, garage sales and flea markets. Usually for $.50 to $1. NES carts are going for around $2 (or less). The systems themselves are not much more. I doubt I've spent over $20 for my NES and about 30 carts.
I don't see as much justification for pirating
carts as for software which is usually on much more fragile media.
I'm sorry..I don't see where it states that you can't sell ANY software on CD unless you're the copyright holder. The only software that is mentiioned as verboten are OEM, Academic, and CD-R copies.
Seems to me that according to the "Work For Hire" admendment that the RIAA managed to sneak in that Metallica (and every artist signed to a lable)is no longer in control of their music anyway..so why fight so hard..let the RIAA fight all by their lonesome. No where in the Bible is it mentioned that man has only been around 4-6k years. If memory serves that date was dreamed up by some muckty-muck in the Catholic church. He based it on the assumption that the human race started about when recorded history did. BTW 4-6k years ago was approx. the end of the last ice age.

You'd have to be insane to pay that price! 2 years ago I bought a Sinclair for $1 including the 16k ram expansion!
I'm using it right now on NT4 (sp5) smooth as silk and using about 4 megs of RAM.
