    All I have to do is iterpret symbols on the screen as letters, the more you dull them out the less information can be packed into the screen. (Of course that would be one wacky font.)

    Besides, this ClearType also requires a color display adding to the battery draw...

    *sigh* Come on, If your going to flame microsoft at least have a point.

    This technology is not ment for grey scale devices. It was developed for there color devices, so or course it isn't going to be usefull on a grey scale device.
    And can you honestly say it's easier to read a 160x160 reflective grey scale that it is to read a color display at twice the resolution.
    And considering that pocket pc devices are already color, battey draw is kinda irrelivent .

    I'm not pro microsoft or anything. But when people post comments like this, it's silly.

    Also, like most things, microsoft might not have come up with the original idea. But, they seem to be the only people who are acctually using it.

    I have to say that the hardware looks pretty good for the price. It sorta has the same specs as a palm vx, just a little thicker, smaller that a palm III, and it also has a microphone and speaker. Maybe this is why palm didn't give them the licence(?) to use palm os on it.

    Acctually, a pen interface is probably the fastest interface for a PDA. A track ball would be slow and cumsy. A mouse would be like a track ball, but it would have the pain-in-the-ass factor of having to carrey it around and having something to yse it one. A keyboard would be way too big if it was going to be use full. Voice recogintion take a big processor, would be slow and clumsy (s c r o l l l e f t m a r g i n a b i t0. And would be a pian to use in a noise environment.

    If your so big on inivation, why don't you come up with something better? Because as far as i can see it. A pen interface is the best for this type of device. And don't forget, these are PIMs, not word processors.

    Acctually WinCE is drawing the I-absolutely-must-have-something-other-than-a-16-s hades-of-grey-or-256(?)-color-160x160-PI M-so-I-can-read-the-display-easier-and-play-mp3z-w hen-storge-prices-drop crowd.

    I repect Palm, infact i'm selling my Jornada 680(too big for a pocket) to get a Palm Vx/
    But what I can't stand are all these people who think that WinCE has nothing on Palm.
    Lets be realistic here. Soon WinCE devices will be small enongh to be pocketable. And storage will be alot cheaper to. And when this happens. Then the advandages of WinCE will really show. Of cource, by then Palm might have a range of more multimedia capable devices aswell. So I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

    All I'm really saying is that WinCE isn't as bad as people make it out to be and it dose have quite a few advantages over Palm at the moment, depending on what you want it for.

    I am a student. But I also need to use It for "commercial perposes" as well. Which means I have to pay the full price.

    I don't have the right to free software. But as far as I can see it. I'm not doing any harm because I wouldn't use the products if I had to pay for them.

    I don't care about the market. If I could right my own software, I would.

    I know it takes time and money to to wright software. But once you have wrighten it. The time and cost to make it drop dramaticly. especially when you sell 50,000 copies of whatever.

    When I have the money to pay for software like photoshop, I will, But untill then, I'll just keep using my free copies. If that offends you, or you think it's immoral. Well sorry, I don't.

    There's much more worse stuff going on than a few rich people lossing a few potention sales.

    If I had things my way. Everything would be free, And people would rely on mutal aid. But partly to people like you, this probably won't happen.

    BTW, I honestly don't think that the progammers go to bed worry etc.. just becasue I got a free copy. Maybe they might be slighty anoyied. But I don't think I am really hurting their acctual feelings. If I was. I wouldn't do it.

    I'm hoping for something like quark, freehand/illustrator, and photoshop. They'er the industry standard. If there were linux apps that were compatible with these. adobe, apple and MS would loss alot of customers.
    And there's corel photopaint. So thats a start (not sure if corel draw is out 4 linux). Not sure how far off any movie editors or 3d modeling progs are. Corel's got bryce or something don't they? Wonder if that'll be poping up in there linux distro anytime soon.

    "Where do you want to go today?" I don't want to go anywhere. I just want to use my god damn computer.

    Oh well, with the break up, dirty tricks like this. And linux getting better/more usable for people like me everyday. I can't see microsoft staying around for too long. Well not in the computer savy community anyway (might be a while before computer illiterate users use linux). But then again, it wouldn't suprise me one bit if everyone just sat back and let it happen.
    Anyway....

    What the hell is that adobe guy talking about when he says we bring it on ourselves?
    They're the ones who charge $500 for a peice of software. I don't care what anyone says, But THAT IS TOO MUCH!
    It woulds cost me about $5000 to get all the software I need to use. Thats more that the hardware!!! WHY?! Software is digital information. I can be repoduced infinitaly at no cost, yet those big companies still charge far too much for there stuff. And then they blame US, when we pirate there software.

    I'm just a student!! I can't afford to pay that much for a bunch of 0' & 1's!!!!

    Belive me. when I can get all the apps I need for linux, I'll be saying goodbye to bill forever!!! Untill then. I will continue to use these expensive products. But I will never pay for them. There you go Bill, sue if you want.

    The only software I have paid for was EditPlus(win text editor), and cuteFTP. Why? Cause they didn't charge the f###'n earth for there software, and they actually work. + the arn't greedy big $hits. Out to just make money.

    The whole entire world is getting insane. I'm not sure how much longer it will last, or how much longer I can take. But If everyone dosn't fucken wake up, and realise that this is what the future will be like if no one cares about little things like this soon. I'm packing my bags and joining a budhist monastry.

    Oh well... that sounded more like a flame than a rant. But hey. </RANT>

    If that site started up a company, and sold dolls called barbie, that would be wrong. But they're not. They're started up "non-profit orginization" if you want to call it that. It's totaly different.

    Do you think Linus would be upset if you started up an quake clan called The Linuses, or the Linux Kids? I think not.

    And everyone knows that barbie is a household name. So I don't get what the big idea is.

    TheBarbies site though is clearly using the name of Barbie as a eye-catcher. Virtually every young girl who comes to the site (and that's their intended audience) will think of the Barbie doll. It's set up that way. That may sound harmless to you, but it's illegal.

    Not really, It couls be that they want the domain name to be like there clan, which is obviously a take-off of barbie, which would fall into a parody.
    If it is harmless. then y is it illegal?
    Are you one of those people who does exactly what the law says, just "because it the law". And never thinks for them selves?
    If the law said to you that on 5:30pm, on tuesdays, that you must run round in the streets naked. Would you do it?

    Lets get this strait. A domain name is an address thats easy to remeber. It is not by nature a trademark, or though obviously a company would like to have the same domain as there company name.

    If you put up a non-proffit site for your quake clan or something e.g. quakegame.com. You have every right to use it. If ID software want you to take it down. Thats there problem. Fisrt in, first served. And inderviduals should alwasy have better rights over coperations.

    And of course the referance to the doll is obvious! thats the whole point of it. Gezzzz. May I suggest you remove that large, sharp, uncomfortable object from your ass, as i think it is affecting you intelligence.

    Sure, it would be impossable to solve every problem. There will always be new problems. But that dosn't mean that we should give up and stick with what we've got.     While it dose sound better than normal capitalism. Will it really solve the current problems of capitalism?
    I.e. People screwing each other over for more money. Will 3rd world countries still exist?
    Will It give bigger pay and more power to the workers? Or will it just be like current capialism, except a big coperation spins silk from spiders, instead of making a mess with toxic stuff.

    Are the same people who only have money as there goal in life really going to care about the environment?

    IMHO, if he thinks society is really intelligent enough to give something else a go. Why not anarchism? It would certinly be a better alternative.

    But then again. I don't think society is ready to change. The only way at the moment of really changing, weather it's natural capitalism, communism, or anarchism, is to start up a community of your own with other people of similar belifs and lead by example.

    Bo both formats. But make sure whoever you get to publish ur book, knows that you plan on relesing it on the web aswell. Or else u'll probably end up getting a lawsuit.

    If you relese it online, as we all know, it there will be alot of free copies getting passed round. But depending on the price I might work or fail.
    I think that if you sell them dirt cheap (~$2), then alot of people wouldn't mind paying for it. But if you charge too much, then people will just not bother. After all, it's isn't a real book, which is another point. Not everyone wants to sit in front of a CRT and read a text. Even if the did spend an A4 relm or t just printing it off, I'm not sure that many people would like to read it off big A4 sheets, probably heald together with a staple. To many people, I think it would be easyier to just buy the book.

    But who knows, if it's a good seller, then people might want the online version. Since it would be easy to get over the next, and would cost cheaper.

    So, I guess the best way is to both and see what happens. Should be very interesting. Good luck.

    It sounds pretty neat (asside fromt the fact the M$ are already making a touch sensitive mouse--about the only thing M$ can do well). But with no buttons at all? what about tactical feedback? I imagine that either it would be too easy to accidentaly click, or rub the mouse. Or it you would have to press the mouse hard, which could be a bit of a pain after a while.
    Oh well, maybe they've already sorted out this problem. Just something to keep in mind.

    Well, I'm not sure about everyone else. But I know I suffer paranoia when I carry my preciouse, out-dated box around. And with the way luggage handlers are generaly knowen to handle luggage. I wouldn't be puting my box on a plane with out protection. And there's a novilty value to it aswell.

    They support PNG, but none of them have yet to support alpha channels properly, which is one of the bigger features of PNG. From what I've heard. Modzilla does now support alpha channels for PNG, But I can't stand modzilla (it's just me). And NN5/6 isn't here yet. And I doubt M$ are in a big rush to support it for IE5.

    The fate that none of the major browsers have botherd to fully support it yet. Hopefully the next gen will. IE5 for the mac does I think. But thats about it AFAIK.

    Corel's designer.com has a good artical about future web formats. It mentions JPEG2000, PNG, MNG (supposed to replace animated gifs), SVG (scalable vector graphics), and few other things like line speed, hardware, and HTML.

    Worth a read if you've a web designer etc...
