    For all of us, "property" rights are well understood and universally accepted. You own a home. You own a car. They're yours - they belong to you. They are your property. Well, your ideas belong to you, too. And "intellectual property" is property, period.

    I can have a car to. I can have an idea to.
    I can have a car similer to yours. I can have an idea similer to yours.
    I can have a car exactly like yours. I can have an idea exactly like yours.
    I can't steal you car. I can't steal your idea.

    Well, that may sound like it supports that guy. But really, it dosn't. Cause it means then, that if I wanted to steal someones idea, I'd have to access their brain, take those thought out of their brain, and put them in mine. As far as I know, this is not possable with todays technology.

    There you go. I have just proved that every single copyright, patant, trademark law is redundant.

    Intellectual property rights may make sence in 20 years time... but not today.

    What happend to people rasing their kids with good morel values? That would solve most of todays problems.

    I understand that. But how do you define a particular smell? What if I wanted to make tennis ball that smelt similar to cut grass? Or If I made tennis balls that smells like something else to me, but they ended up smelling like cut grass to someone else?

    How exact are they going to tell if someone is violating their TM? Some people interperit smells differenly to others. And also some people can tell subtle differnces -- they might smell differnt to someone, but to someone else, they might smell the same. What would happen then?

    Would I like to see something like Napster make it easier for me to make a living? Yes. But I'd like them to do it by *ASKING MY PERMISSION* before letting people distribute my work.

    Although it sounds like a good idea. It needs a bit of work. Anyone have any ideas on how this could work? 'cause I know at the moment -- if i remeber correctly -- that napster lists everything in a folder. And it would be a bit of a pain for ppl to sort out legal, and illegal mp3z (It has to be easy for them or they won't do it). Also, alot of people are going to do it anyway.

    This can be done already in Win, KDE (2 ways), and in some Mac apps. To me, a keyboard only UI would be a bit annoying. But thats just me.

    Anyway. If it did have a button, I thought they would have showen it at least once. And if they did have a new inivative way, I thought they would have mentioned it.

    Interface:While some users prefer the limited functionality of the Cat, the variety of commands available with Dogs is more suitable for the "hacker".

    While that is true, I have seen many dogs that crash when given commands. This makes dogs some unrealiable.


    Applications:Most cats will retrieve all sorts of dead animals for you; Dogs can be used as NT Admins for your home network.

    Hey. I have to dissagree with that. I run both a cat and a dog, and my dog is just as capable of retrieving as many smelly, dead animals as my cat. Hmm.. maybe it's running an emulator or something.

    I had a look on every screenshot. But I can't seem to find anything that looks like a Apple menu, start menu, task bar, etc...

    I'm sure there must be some sort of main nav to use. But I would really liked to have seen it. After all, it's one of the most important part or the UI.

    Are there any other more detailed screenshots around?

    Also, who is this OS aimed for. If it's a new OS, and as he mentioned, it's difficult to port stuff to his OS. I can't see it being a replacement for windoze.
    Still, only time will tell...

    Well, you can have it IR if you wanted. It would just mean you would either:
    • Have a bulky battery attached to it.
    • Plug a power cable into it, which would kinda defeat the perpous of getting rid of the USB connection.

    I'm not sure if bandwidth would be problem either.

    Second, they use frames. And tables. And flash. And JavaScript. And img.src. And CSS. And lots of browser-specific stuff. Basically they designed it for IE5/NS4 and Pentium II or equivalent. Big mistake.

    Well, I'm using NN4.06, on a pentuim II 233, 128Mbs RAM. And if I remeber correctly, the 2nd time I vistted there site. It crashed, and it was SLOW.

    When I first stummbled across there site, I thought they where a web-design company of some sort. They had all these weird videos of people walking down the street. Lots of pop-up windows, etc... Not once did I see anything about sportsware.

    So it wasn't just the fact that it was incompatable and slow. They didn't know how to design the site to begin with.

    We will not have electric cars in mass production and use anytime soon because auto makers can make so much more money on gas-powered cars, and people are used to being able to go 90 MPH if they wanted to, which no electric could dream of hitting.

    It's quite common for 1:10th scale Radio controlled cars to hit 110mph. And Got to wired.com, and search for an artical called "suck amps". It's about eletric drag cars. One of which bet a dodge viper, which was fastet of 3 other vipers on the day.

    The problem isn't speed. But batteries. Current batteies only hold about 1% the amount of energy that petrol has for the same weight. If the batteries where equal. The no gas car could touch electric.

    I think that the internet is a good example that anarchism can work in real life. But it also points out that it is unstable when non-anarchic practices start to happen.

    Having said that though, and contratry to what you said. I think the internet can still work well. I think alot of commercial stuff, is just buzz. And I think some of it will die down. Only if people care about this issue and not let it get taken over bit by bit like is seems to be now.

    Also. If you feel this way about the internet. I can't see much hope for Open-source software. As they also rely on anarchic ideas aswell.

    Well, I couldn't get on for ages yesterday. And I'm on a dial-up at home. But I'm pretty sure my ISP dosn't ban stuff.

    I use NN 4.6. Sometimes an error message, sometimes not.

    And it's also only happened with the new severs.

    Strange.

    Well, Actually both should be acceptable.

    After all, free speech is just that. If you outlaw racism, It won't do any good. MP3z are illegal, and look how wide spread that it. Killing people is illegal(and immoral). But the law hasn't manage to stop this.

    The way most countries (including the US) run there system is like how like Micro$oft write up-dates/patches. Just duct-taping the thing up, a quick fix. Not acctualy getting to the root of the problem and making changes there.

    The French alternative was just an underground nuclear reaction. Besides they chose that exact place because the earth crust was rich in materials that would melt and safely enclose the radioactive stuff with thick glassy material for a very long time. In other words they chose the safest place.

    Yeah... thats why it was found to be contaminated. And they exploded nukes in the air aswell. I'm not sure how much coverage was going on in the US about the attol, But it was enough so stir up quite a few protest here in NZ. The French over there where also pissed off to see Greenpeace floating round, so they knew they where doing something bad.

    Authough we might not have been directly affected our selves, There are other islands out there.

    And if it had fucked up.. It would have seeped out in to the pacific.

    First, rockets back then were *gasp*! less reliable than they are now. A fault on launch, with a bomb capable of an explosion that could have been seen a few =million= miles away would have turned more than the launch-pad into toast.

    I remember hearing somewhere that it's highly unliklely that a nuclare bomb would detinate if it was in an explosion/fire. I think that they're highly sensitive about how they're detonated. Otherwise you wouldn't see them strapped to the wings of a fighter jet.

    Still, I wouldn't have been anywhere near that launch-pad.
