Don't straw man me - I never said bridges to nowhere weren't pork. You and I are 100% on the same page there. But my questions remain unanswered - what do we do about national parks, interstate trails & parks, the D.C.?
And our own disagreement brings another question to mind: how do we see determine which projects are legitimate expenses for government and which are "simply a luxury?" Maybe we should choose some group of people to represent us and vote on it...
I'm sorry I did not mean that in general these projects were all bad. But it is obvious between a legitimate need and pork. When you are building random stuff in the middle for no particular reason. And the federal government typically doesn't pay for projects like that.
Heck I am all for beautifying a city. I live near Weston...the poster child for a planned city and they did a nice job. But did the state of Florida or the United States government pay for it...no. Weston has higher property taxes and its residents ay for it. But thats how it should be. They footed the bill on their own city. I have never heard anyone from Weston complain that the taxes were too hgih because they wanted to live in a city with nice parks, land scaping, fountains, and bike trails.
My point was simply Senators should not be having the sole goal of making the most money for their state. Sure they are going to be an advocate for their state but that doesn't mean that they can get away with stealing money from the federal government just add figures to his campaign. going to be an advocate for their state but that doesn't mean that they can get away with stealing money from the federal government just add figures to his campaign.
Power corrupts — I prefer Republicans strongly — but being in power for this long is not healthy.
This guy, along with a few others (Kennedy-cough-cough), are the "poster children" for term-limits on not just presidency, but other elected offices.
In a remote state such as Alaska, where residents are paid to live there and pay neither income nor sales tax, his constituents have especially little reason to care for his wasting (and, likely, outright stealing) federal government's money, as long as they get a bit of it too.
So basically alaska is a state primarily funded by the rest of the United in which their inhabitants are simply leeching off the rest of the US. Being that they receive so much federal money.
It is just horrible that at a time when the national debt is so high we still throw money around like its nothing.
Except that it IS nothing to them. They'll just make more money and/or sell us out to countries who hate us! What do they care? The American taxpayer is footing the bill for their well-being. And pensions. I say, put them on Social Security like the rest of us, and allow their salaries to be commensurate to their approval rating. We'll get some useful things happening then.
Yes but than a bill will to passed for that:P
What you don't understand with our flawed system is that their is no accountability as the only people who regulate politicians...our politicians.
There is a difference between a "legitimate need" and just something so you say you diverted money towards your state. I'm sorry but a multi-million dollar bridge to a uninhabitable island is not a "legitimate need" by any standard.
And if people want to build fountains and bike trails have their local governments pay for it. It has nothing to do with the federal level it is simply a luxury that locals want. Should the federal government pay for every little museum, board walk, and beach hut because "it is a social investment"
wow that was pretty funny. I love how stupid he sounds. I mean I think he left out that people pay for different levels of internet coverage and use the internet differently. I mean just becasue he is so old and doesn't understand or really use the internet doesn't mean we should be like "hey your IMs are going to go an extra 10 ms faster because you don't use the internet a lot".
Wow that adn article is hilarious. Alaska is just crawling with these guys. I guess since its so cold and boring in alaska they have nothing better to do than steal. I mean it just kept going on and on.
lol yah...our government never ceases to amaze me. Even the senate's most senior republican is dirty. I mean in general not just him. Our entire government spent so much money on pork like "bridges to nowhere", "bike trails", fountains, etc.
It is just horrible that at a time when the national debt is so high we still throw money around like its nothing.
There is always the bright side that if you do lay your own fiber you could rent it out to everyone else and recoup the cost.....Though if their was people who wanted to pay for fiber to beging with than it would already be there.
"I mean a construction worker and a cashier is not going to own his own jet ski."
Joke, right?
The guy works as an assistant in a rug-store, apart from the stint that he had driving trucks at a mine. Sounds like this construction worker / cashier really does have his own jet-ski.
And he's not selling his 'identity', just his stuff.. and... oh for Pasta's sake, RTFA.
er:
job, and so forth.
who is selling his life on eBay. Are you reading a different article?
This puts a new meaning to the word "Net Worth". Although this will set a precendent. I am pretty sure you can sell the "things" you own but you can't sell your whole life. Why would his boss hire the guy who takes his "identity". Obviously the buyer is a guy with completely different skillsets. Obviously this guy does some sort of skilled job that requires some sort of degree if he can afford a house, a car, and a jet ski. I mean a construction worker and a cashier is not going to own his own jet ski.
This just seems like its not going to pan out. Ebay is probobly going to pull it because you can't "enforce" the sale of an identity even if there is a contract. It has nothing to do with that. The buyer isn't going to get the guys social security number and he will have to pay taxes for EVERYTHING. Considering if hes selling "things" to you than you have give the government a percent. Even though this is ebay if you sell real estate or a car on ebay than you have to pay taxes or else you can't get a legal title.
Obviously this guy is doing this because his wife left him and he feels he has nothng left. But this is a rather brash thing. Its not as simple as give me half a million dollars and heres my life. While he goes and moves to romania or something.
Although this does put a new twist on the term "bought friend"
If domains were expensive enough we wouldn't have squatters. Say you would have to pay 250$ to purchase a domain name. How many would a squatter be willing to buy? Yea than the question is...would anyone be willing to buy.
Still a silly business tactic, though. If the browser's *already* steering the user in Google's direction, and if the user then makes a *conscious choice* to use YOUR services, see YOUR ads and earn YOU money, shouldn't you be thankful for that instead of punishing them for it?
It's like a salesperson refusing to serve a customer because a salesperson from a competitor's trying to get that customer's attention, nevermind the fact that the customer isn't actually interested in that competitor and is doing his best to ignore them.
Don't really see why this was modded down. I completely agree.
Obviously even if people arent using the microsoft browser they are deciding to use Microsoft's hotmail which makes them a contributing customer of Microsoft. Why is microsoft turning people away just because they don't use IE. Not to mention that people on linux or apple don't have IE. I mean if people using linux or apple decide to use Microsoft, which would be surprising considering the disdain for Microsoft that both of those camps have than Microsoft should be like oh' damn this OSS guys are using our online services, we are still getting something out of them.
Not surprising? Last I checked, Google is the #1 search engine, but you could still access it 100% with IE.
This is like if GM was the primary sponsor for Six Flags amusement parks, and the parking attendants direct you to park at the far end of the parking lot because you drive a Toyota, but they don't explicitly say that they do so, and even though there's no technical reason why your car can't park in the more convenient spots.

Than again microsoft's slogan isn't "Don't be evil" like google's is:P
I think that blocking bittorent is a horrible offense against net nuetrality and that Comcast really is just falsely advertising. They try to sell you a connection for a ton of money and than not let you use it....how is that fair.
Comcast is simply ripping people off and refusing to upgrade their network.
I blame comcast but I don't really blame sandvine. Someone is going to make the software whether its sandvine or "Network Management Unlimited" (wow not a bad idea for a new startup:P). He is just making software. He is just as much of an exploiting douchbag as the people who make the bandwidth hogging programs if you think about it.
Its comcast that are money hungry exploiting bastards who just want to exploit the fact that they are a monopoly.
This is the classic version of Windows Live Hotmail
This version works better with your browser. The full version of Windows Live Hotmail runs on Internet Explorer 6.0 and higher (make sure you check the system requirements before you install it). The full version also works on Firefox 1.5. And the option to switch between Classic and Full is gone from the Options, etc... and my moms a whore...so what... I am just wondering what you are trying to say and how this is a reply to my post.
Opera works perfectly with hotmail and it is still much faster in opera than IE.
Firefox is basically funded by google. You know how the default search engine is google it is because google donates and promotes firefox. Not to mention the firefox "homepage" is google. Firefox received about 66 million dollars in 2006.
Which is fine because they publicly state that. Almost all of the money they make, besides the occasional donation is from google. The mozilla foundation is funded by google.
Ahh so we can still buy stuff. I might buy a kit. Pretty rad site. OMG what ever happened to soldering kits. I'm doing wii modchipping and I swear i couldn't get any practice because every kit i find is "solder free". I don't want freaking solder free. I want to solder. I want to smell the strong smell of lead that is slowly killing me!
btw heres me making mod chips http://www.youtube.com/profile_videos?user=aceofspades1217&p=r.
Really make sure you keep a window open when your soldering...i had a headache for a week.
So how is your site doing? Are you getting a lot of orders. I bet/. is helping
They should have a zero tolerance policy for downloading Britney Spears....one strike and your out.
After all it is for your own good. If your downloading Britney spears than you just don't deserve to have the privilege of using a internet connection.
Now that would be an anti net neutrality law I could stand behind!
Or if you don't have the proper education or knowledge about the subject (Cough-Bush-Hack).

Now that microsoft is competing head to head against google in the online arena this is not surprising.
A larger firefox market share translates into a higher market share for google as firefox users are directed towards google.
It works perfectly under 9.51. I just loaded it like usual. I didn't have to do "mask". It just loaded.

I guess it just run by one guy.
Or having a Secretary of Treasury in the bush administration :P
But really have you seen how bad their ip law is there. Go to hong kong and you can buy an exact copy of any brand.
Hey! Why does the word "guillotine" jump into my head?
that might also work. It has worked for the french in the past.....
The same goes for people who use the wrong form of your.
