I think M$ products should just be taken away from people at any cost, especially people who need them, then they'll be forced to make something available on linux. Also, if college students learn only Linux, then the companies in the real world will be forced to switch to linux b/c nobody knows how to support M$. People switching to linux can only be a good thing, forced or not. Actually, DirecTV DSL was by far the best...It was the only DSL service in my experience (which is extensive) with which I have never had a problem. It not only worked better than advertised, it was also NEVER EVER down, not a single time in the 2 years that I've been using DirecTV dsl have I had an interruption of service. I got much higher bandwidth than advertised and it wasn't one of those worthless PPPoE services. Also, no one should ever complain about the router/modem thing, it was awesome too.
OS X Jaguar runs significantly faster on my 266Mhz beige G3 with 128MB ram and 6MB of video memory and the built in RAGE PRO graphics controller than it does on my 400Mhz B&W G3 with 768MB ram and a 32MB Radeon card...I don't get it, it is the weirdest thing...I'd think that even if there was a problem (which I can't for the life of me find) the sheer difference in capacity and power would make the B&W machine run at least as fast as the beige one.
I've had telocity(directv) DSL for about 6 months now and I've had no problems with it...I ordered it and it was completely up and running within 2 weeks...Since I got it, it has gotten faster. My connection speed has gone from ~600Kbps to ~900Kbps, for no apparent reason (and at no additional charge). I've got a static IP, I've got speed (that seems to be getting faster all the time) and I've got 0 downtime...so, what is all this I'm hearing about people having problems with DSL?
I can find no reason to ever go back to using a modem...Maybe it's just me, but I'd forgo food on the table for broadband...The net is so much more useable with broadband...those without it are missing so much...and those who'd drop it because they think the net doesn't have enough to offer to justify the cost, missed something somewhere.
Well, maybe if they get their jollies by fraggin me online I'll live longer in the real world...
