In regards to those SMS subscription services they should be BANNED, some can cost upwards of $25 per week.
Here is Australia the Sender Pays for the SMS (av25c) to be sent,
Its Free to receive calls even in a $5sim (ie$5p/m)
, LandLine to Landline calls are Untimed, FREE Country Wide on many Plans.
Prepaid Mobile (CELL for the yanks)is often cheaper than contracted rates.
Pay Phones cost.50c Un-timed for a local call approx 80km radius
If its a private backup service ie password etc whats the problem. I anyone really going to give their user and pass out as the RIIA could delete all the files stored.
In Australia AFAIK, unless the law has changed, again. Once you bought a CD you can make a backup copy, ie any format, as long as you still hold in your the original CD,
BUT, ARIA ( Aust version of RIAA) has made a law that if you play music publicly not only do you have to pay a public performance license but also a media format transfer license as well for every song you have ripped/copied etc.
When will these guys stop, (when everyone stopa buying music because they sure everyone who has a original copy and a backup)
Hundreds of Complaints have been submitted to, Fair Trading and the ACCC (Australian Competition and Consumer Commission). I Stopped using Ebay along time ago as their fees and commissions were to excessive. There are heaps of local selling sites that don't ripp you off like ebay does some are even free.
I still waiting for the government to put a stop to companies charging a fee or a percentage just to pay a bill.
