RIT used to have an Exchange server (switched to hosted Gmail, thankfully); I actually foung the basic interface, what I saw in Firefox, easier to use than the full interface that showed up in IE.
was that a coincidental selection? whether it is or not, LOL. Reminded of when MC Lars' "Roommate From Hell" shuffled in on university freshman-movein-day
Obviously they're the safer option, but I find them more comfortable anyways, as they keep you from the small bouncing around that comes form normal vehicle motion. I like little harmonious convergences like that.:)
Yes, although I can remember the one particular ID number for my university, having to remember a lot of such ID numbers would be like something/.'ers probably know well - password wrangling on The Internet. I suppose multiple businesses all wanting the SSN is a good analogy in meatspace. Guess some have a higher memory capacity than others.
I can speak from my knowledge on disposing of old worn-out US flags: the 'old worn-out' part, as well as the respectful procedure, is what legitimizes it in comparison to a provocative protest activity.
I'm no Christian myself, as I've said in other comments on this story, but I'd agree that the practical arguments ("will this be effective?") are something different from the moral/ethical arguments.
If Jones' practical impulse aligns with our moral/ethical impulse on this particular issue, (this) problem (is) solved.
If your practical impulses are aligned with your own morals, better yet. [using 'your' more generally here]
"You want to do something that disagrees with my ethics. It won't be effective for you anyway because of X, so don't do it *for your own reasons*"
Ah yes, in the heat of the 2008 campaign I wrote up a fake TV ad - "Tired of hearing about *Sarah* Palin? How about Michael instead? _Monty Python And The Holy Grail_, today at 1:37 PM on The Comedy Movie Channel
Songwriter and vocalist for indie rockers Bright Eyes, from the song Four Winds:
"The Bible's blind. The Torah's deaf. The Qu'ran is mute. If you burned them all together you’d get close to the truth"

Me: I don’t really like the Christian crazies either, but seeing them as not-as-bad, combined with usual one-thing-at-a-time thinking, might lead me to be willing to cooperate – the enemy of my enemy is my friend, ya know, even if it isn’t literally expressed as scriptures destruction.
(It’s just that the Christian crazies seem to be the ones most motivated to deal with Islam and/or its crazies.)
If iTunes is any indication, Apple makes better versions of software on its own platform. oldmac31310's username doesn't necessarily imply his OS, IMHO.
VLC can indeed play.flv files, and while that's not the only use of Flash, it's certianly a major one. Getting ahold of the raw.flv files for what you wanna watch should be fairly straightforward
what I meant by that was using the SSN or its non-US equivalent as a lazy way to get a primary key or something analogous to one. The SSN does work for that, just with a lot of other issues.
A non-SSN number to serve a similar ID purpose sounds like a good idea for that combining reason, yes
I have a lot of database theory/design-type classes fall term, so this phrasing is especially likely to come to mind, sorry
At my high school, we had an hour break and were allowed to leave, so the nearest McDonalds, nearest pizzeria and such got a lot of business. But as I later did in college, I packed lunch very often, both to save $ and avoid making the trip.
Yes, the sobriquet "lads from Liverpool" doesn't help if you don't know where Liverpool is.:)
anyway, I sometimes tend to respond in kind to sarcasm and the like.
I am not making the England/UK mistake BTW; none of these musicians happen to be from Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland.:P
The Who, Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones, Judas Priest for more examples. Freddie Mercury was born outside England but lived in England, probably Queen too.:)
I've been meaning to gather statistics on the national origin of my music collection
Foreign films? Being extremely impressed with Kurosawa's ouevre comes to mind; I specifically saw Rashomon, 7 Samurai and Hidden Fortress, but I haven't gotten around to watching many movies since then of whatever nationality.
You're right, there are definitional issues, my Freddie Mercury example being one.
the rich get richer, the poor get poorer. being poor seems to somewhat tie you to financial mechanisms that screw you in the long term, keeping you poor. partially the fault of the poor people, partially the fault of the system, varies across different cases.
I'm actually more cautious about motorcycles because they're smaller and harder to see (although easier to see around because of that - as a converse, boy do SUVs and the like piss me off, for this amongst other reasons) Granted, I'm new enough that I'm not overconfident
Also a bit of applied Golden Rule because of my habit for nonmotorized bikes.:P
I've still learning how to drive, and as such, I'm especially interested in paying attention to the speed limit, and people try to pass. It's the equivalent of being called a stupid goody-two-shoes for actually doing what you're supposed to be doing.
Nevertheless, I do sometimes pull the add 5 or 10 mph thing. Sometimes, it seems like a higher limit would be appropriate, sometimes it seems like a lower limit would be appropriate.

Bicycle helmets on the other hand...(whistles)

Godwin may have reared its head earlier in this thread, but okay...
I think the 'maybe' part of your paraphrased quote does manage to avoid the worst of reductio ad Hitlerum errors

I'm an agnostic/weak athiest myself, and my skepticism about this idea thus has nothing to do with acting on Christianity's behalf in particular.
(It's just that the radical Christians are some of the most motivated against *Muslim* crazies.)
Are our values of tolerance ironically being used to encourage intolerance?
If we play clean and they play dirty, we get screwed - no good deed goes unpunished, eh?
Yes, that's what some of the wire reports I rain into said - he was at least trying to initiate talks with the imam behind that NYC mosque idea.

In database terms, perhaps a lot of places are being lazy enough to not set up a better primary key?
I scanned the first 75 replies or so and I cannot recall a single one being from someone who actually claimed to have a kid in a school.
It's quite understandable to miss when skipping, but here's one:

Yeah, there's a reason that righthand drive countries have the steering column on the left - the viewing angles I suppose it is.
