The Internet (note the capital 'I') is simply any network that agrees to use TCP/IP. Without TCP/IP, you wouldn't have the Internet (note the captial 'I' again). It should be fairly obvious that the inventor of the Internet, which is defined entirely in terms of combining TCP/IP and any network, is the inventor of TCP/IP.
Your example of the the internal combustion engine and car is a false analogy because a car is not defined as requring an internal combustion engine--it could use another type of engine entirely and still be a car.
I would hope that in the closed environment they wouldn't have to worry very much about supervision, since everyone using it would be presumeably trusted.
Well, apparently the rules vary by institution because at my college (High Point University in High Point, North Carolina), RAs can key in to a room whenever they want.
How about you all stop being stupid? Archie's right, paying $30 for extremely nice operating system is not that bad. I mean, how much did you pay for the hardware? Did you bitch about that too? How are the OpenBSD people supposed to fund their project without money? And using the whole 'leave the girl alone' angle was just boring and old.
I think this is just Microsoft bullying Ebay into submission like they do everybody else. Personally, I don't think things like this are going to stop unless Microsoft is broken up, which is why I hope Judge Jackson smashes them into so many pieces they won't know what the hell to do. Zach Hartley
Jon & Rob are doing this for our benefit and the benefit of anyone who has felt the pain of being different. To argue on and on about legal rights of the posters is absolutely asinine. Get some morals. Zach Hartley
Use this comment as you want, it is unimportant really.
Did you even look at the link? The file is called BeOs 4 (as in "for") Linux. What do you want, the guy to come to your house and sit down to explain it to you. Come on, there's no need to be such a moron.
Have you even used Gnome or Mozilla recently? I don't understand how you come off saying Gnome is bloated and useless. It makes KDE look like shit (IMO) and is not slow or full of useless features. Mozilla is also wonderful. I personally have had it crash on me less often than Navigator 4.7 or IE5. It's size is tiny compared to the others. I suggest you download Mozilla M14 and the latest Gnome and use them both for a while before you open your mouth again.
Hey buddy, calm down a bit. We all understand the frustration that is caused by the DOJ pussyfooting around with Microsoft, but that doesn't mean you have to insult the entire country. Please take your hatred elsewhere, because it is not wanted here.
I just love how the government allows companies to get ripped off. I mean, come on, who doesn't think of the iMac when they see one of those translucent cases. When I first saw the Gateway Astro and eMachines computers, I thought that they were just misshapen iMacs. I hope Apple can find a way to stop this problem.
I think Linux has been a viable desktop solution for some time. Many linux distros use an auto configurator for X and Gnome & KDE are just like any other desktop ever made. People are just still stuck on the old days when you had to know everything ever published on your monitor and video card.
Copy on Write has a very specific meaning in the file system world. So the poser wasn't trolling, you're just ignorant.
Try again.

Why don't you actually read what he has to say, rather than just bash him because he's Jon Katz? Must be fun to be part of a mob.....

Isn't this a little late? I mean, it's April 3... It it is true, well, um, whoa....
If only I could get my soundcard to work. I guess then, I might worry about making musica or listening to it.... stupid vortex soundcard...
