These are generally very power-efficient "Dumbphones", normally Nokia makes low end stuff with awesome battery life. In places without power, quite a few villages will have a shop or charging station for the phones (not from Vanuatu, but a nearby country). Customers buy pre-pay credit and charge their phones at the same time. Phone accounts are being tied into billpayment systems and money sending (Western Union-ish) all over the pacific. But quite a lot of places have power, satellite TV and 3G internet, all enjoyed in a house with a mud floor.
*facepalm* Look, whatever bad decisions Obama is making, he is eminently more qualified than Bush Jr. A higher IQ, a law degree, the ability to write a complete book, actually managing something that didn't run into the ground. All these are advantages Obama has over Bush, Palin, and whatever "average joe/jane" politicans coming out of the woodwork these days (Michelle Bachman? *shudder*).
So basically what you're saying is that they should have somehow predicted the future, and realized Amazon would strip the device filtering from their app, and built a second method of preventing this? If they did they'd be awesome, but the fact that they didn't DOESN'T make it their fault the apps crash, it makes it Amazon's! You seem to be very determined to paint them in a bad light... Are you the paranoid reviewer they were talking about?
Your comprehension is certainly not very good! The apps were crashing because Amazon wasn't filtering incompatible/poorly performing devices from downloading the app. You know, like the ones stated in their manifest file? The dev certainly give no indications either way whether they are bad or good to deal with, customer-to-seller, but I think being considerate of people whose android devices would not run this app seems to be a good sign of the dev's diligence.
They wanted to reply so they could explain themselves, certainly not to do whatever you're talking about. Is a certain someone projecting their own baggage onto another situation?
The problem this will solve, if implemented well, is basically cutting down on tech un-savvy users installing malware, and maybe for the rest of us, ease of updating, with a nice GUI. I think an app store should allow apps to be sold/downloaded easily, but certain apps can be scrutinized/audited, and given a certificate/badge of "goodness" that less technical users can use as a guide to what's safe to dowload. The rest of us will benefit from fewer botnet zombies pumping out spam and DDOS attacks, and friend/clients needing help!
I have to say "talent" is such a subjective term. What criteria are we alluding to when we mention the word "talent"? A singing voice capable of 5 octaves in range or maybe a more modest voice with better/subtler/whatever singing/rapping? Profound/meaningful/socialy relevant lyyrics, and/or the ability to perform songs live with heartbreaking conviction / amazing energy? A preference to a certain genre?
Well, I don't know what songs are included in that movie, but he co-wrote 24 out of the 31 songs on his "My Worlds: The Collection" album, some of which do have about 5 or 6 people, and some of which don't. I have only seen a few cases of a (primarily vocalist) solo r&b artist writing and composing their albums to the exclusion of most outside participation, and the last I could recall was Lauryn Hill, who did it deliberately to get all those Grammy's and shove them in Wyclef Jean's face... A lot of his songs are modified versions of what he used to sing on his youtube channel before his record deal. Check out kidrauhl on youtube, the kid's youtube channel. While he cartainly wasn't a world class songwriter, there were definitely signs of talent showing through.
And, listening to MJ's "Ben" or "ABC", did that suggest "Thriller" or "insert your favourite song from his discography"? Some entertainers grow, and some fade away, we'll see it when we see it I suppose. What I will say is that, as ear worms go, his singles are like ear worms on crack... "I just need somebody to loooooooooooove"
You know he wrote most of the music himself, can play two instruments, and can sing quite well? His music is awesome for his age and demographic. It might be fashionably non-conformist to criticize his music and fans, but cmon, they're just kids.... If he can write stuff like that now, there's a good indication he could be even better in his 20's and 30's (think Michael Jackson)
What about when said expression of such beliefs has a severe, often fatal effect on young lives? I dislike censorship as much as the next person, but I don't think young children and teens should be eposed to such hate. If it were up to me, it wouldn't be banned, but rated so explicit/vulgar/controversial that at-risk demographics such as teenagers don't see it.
Young LGBT people, confronted with messages such as this, are often drawn to suicide. Do you think a pro-gay app would drive straight teens to suicide? And I mean in the real world, and not some hypothetical thought experiment you might dream up.
Please google a little bit about "ex-gays", the often rich and famous pastors/televngelists/politicians associated with that school of thought, and electro-shock therapy. Religion is all too often used to cloak hate and intolerance behind kindly words and warm demeanors. I mean, look at Mother Teresa, she thought all the ills plaguing the modern world was due to rich westerner women having abortions. It doesn't affect you, so you don't know how pervasive such religion-fueled hate can be, and why even its benign forms should be gaurded against, and shunned.
losing weight and stop smoking and drinking and taking drugs
Your choice of comparisons suggests you implicitly believe being gay to be a choice, since you compare it to these things. You seem to already be in subtle agreement with the major point of the bigots thoughts, so it doesn't surprize me that you wouldn't see the offensiveness of the app. If you knew how many gay teenagers kill themselves every year, because of attitudes and opinions espoused by the app makers and their ilk, you'd understand why most people consider "gay cures" to be particularly vile.
I believe another poster already linked to electroshock therapy, and other horrific measures poor young homosexuals in the clutchs of right-wing, bigoted parents endure.
Yes, long been known that slime molds display colonial behaviour, and that that genus has a motile "slug" colony form when it has exhausting the local food supply (really creepy to see a "plant-like" thing congeal into an "animal-like" thing). The new discovery is the fact that a significant amount of dictyo colonies carry food bacteria along with their spores, to grow wherever they land. They likely haven't outcompeted the non farming strains due to the trade-off (i.e, non farming strains do better in bacteria rich regions, while farming strains do better in bacteria free regions, bacteria meaning the ones they can eat)
Actually no, they taken "farming" and non-"farming" strains and introduced them to a sterile growth medium, then introduced their progeny to media with bacteria present. The farming strain again displays this behaviour when creating the fruiting body, and the non farming strains do not. It's a clearly heritable trait, and (at least now) there's nothing accidental about the behaviour. Of course, they don't select for particular species of bacteria, so it's pretty crude, and can lead to carying along non-food bacteria.
You should be held to the standard of being a rational articulate human being, capable of revising position during discussion in the face of new data. You apparently fail that standard though.
doesn't show games which require a touch screen to users of phones without touch screens
Luckily, a touch screen is a requirement for Android (although no specifying the quality of the touchscreen), so that's not a problem. And yes, the Market does have a filter in place to only show apps that can run on your phone. Not sure about performance differences, but certainly it filters for hardware features (e.g, cameras, screen resolutions) and OS versions...
I suppose that the new taskbar is supposed to reduce clutter when lots of applications are open. I think it's better but YMMV I suppose, old productive habits die a slow and painful death when OS-switching...
Pretty sure that Guinan was played by Whoopi Goldberg, and that was a Star Trek movie... Unless this is a whoosh moment for me?

My kingdom for mod points!
unqualified, unknowledgeable, sweet talkers
You mean like Obama? I couldn't agree more.

Seriously, have you perhaps considered briefly familiarizing yourself with the obvious facts surrounding an issue before mindlessly commenting on it?
Now what would be the fun in that?
Is that a dog whistle I hear?

Shit, accidentally modded that down instead of up... Just commenting to undo my moderation...

If it was the IT head of Macy's he deserves to be fired for the huge boost in sales J C Penny got during the holiday season that just finished.

Quick Launch? What are you talking about? You have used Windows 7 haven't you?
