Join the club.... One guy offered to register the ".org" and ".net" variations of my ".com" for a paltry $100.... on top of InterNIC's fee.

You'd think these guys would realize that if the same person is the tech, billing, and admin contact for their name they probably know how to register a name themselves and don't need to pay one of these ripoff artists.

Why bother installing a backdoor to give root access when you've already rooted the machine (which is necessary to install the backdoor)?

I'm not a cracker, but I always thought the general cracker mentality was to get in and get out as quickly as easily as possible. Installing a backdoor would be a useless step, seeing as how the cracker would already have root access.

As far as backdoors are concerned, the only problem which I can think of, is your own people. You should be much more worried about a sysadmin on the inside intentionally opening up a backdoor (or just giving out the root password) for friend on the outside. But that's not a problem related to whether your OS is open/closed, its dishonest people operating the machines.

I recently read that the Bible is on the banned book list in numerous public schools... Don't you love it? They block the Bible (and the Koran and Mormon documents as well), and then block you from reading all of the documents that give you the right to read them. Good grief.

Teletext? Is that what we US people call "closed-captioning?" It's **required** on all US TV's bigger than 20 inches.

A $299 computer though sounds like it's way too good to be true.

Hey, don't go dissing "The Microsoft Sound!" I wonder who the idiot at M$ was though who set the "Ta-Da!" (original start sound) to be the default shutdown wound instead... Used to be "Ta-Da! You're Starting Windows!" but now it's changed to "Ta-Da! You're Rebooting into Linux!"
