* OSCAR, IRC, and JABBER file transfer support is working int he CVS version of Gaim (last I checked). We will be continuing development to add transfer support to the rest of the protocols (ICQ included)
* Re: periodically not working: We have not had any problems with oscar for nearly a year. Any problem has been immediately resolved.
I recently began working for them (about a month ago). We do quite a bit of things, from free work via volunteers, to paid enterprise solutions, as well as custom software design. Give us a look at the link posted above.
You know,
Back when AOL first created TiK and the TOC protocol, they published the specifications. You could even download them from their website. It wasn't until the whole MSN ordeal that they took them down. Now, if AOL didn't want us to use TOC why would they provide it to us? And why would certain people there have told me it was ok? Very interesting.. hmmm:)
My company lost service sometime yesterday as well. I have one of our servers here with me now, hoping to restore at least email service to the comapany in the next day or so. It'll be a couple weeks before we can get a new connection... Ugh
Actually, TOC supports file transfers, albeit, not fully.
A TOC user can receive files from an oscar user. a TOC user can even send files TO an oscar user under certain conditions. If the oscar user selects 'Get file' then the TOC user will be able to accept that request. The problem lies with the fact that AOL never bothered implementing the ability for a TOC user to initiate an rvous request.
Bleh.
Michael,
Is this using the latest pre7 release? If so, let me know and I may have another fix for this. Also, when trying to sign on are you using:
'username' or 'username@hotmail.com'
Thanks,
Rob
For those of you experiencing problems signing on via GAIM using OSCAR, please update to the most recenty CVS copy. There will be a pre8 release of Gaim tomorrow reflecting the changes, as well.
The problem basically lies with AOL trying to block Jabber. This has been going on for several days -- since Monday, I believe. We just sort of caught a stray bullet this time, so to speak.
Good luck to the Jabber guys. I would like to see some communications with AOL as well.
Heya,
I think we misunderstood each other. After reading your most recent post I agree totally with what you're saying. I think you though I was saying that racist practices don't exist. I wasn't trying to say that at all.
In your example above, if person 'B' got hired simply because the more qualified person 'A' was a minority then that's a _BIG_ no-no.
I would like for you to e-mail me, if you don't mind, so we can talk over this. I don't want any hard feelings to exist. Anyone else that disagrees or misread what I was trying to say please e-mail me as well.
I'm on my lunch break at the moment. Aftrer I eat I'll go back over what I wrote to make sure that I didn't word anything to make my comments mean the opposite of what I was trying to say. Hey, it was morning when I wrote it, leave me alone:-P.
Anyways, please fire off an e-mail to me if you get a chance. rob at tgflinux dot com should work fine.
Have a nice day.
Actually I don't know that for a fact nor does any of us know for a fact the "racism" issue with the MS case we've just read about. I was merely stating my views on the matter.
Very true. Discrimination is discrimination and, by definition, covers any direction of discrimination. The 'reverse descrmination' term has always bugged me as well.

hahah! The only thing that I can say is, Amen!
I have an uncontrollable urge to go rent 'Office Space'
This reminds me of an issue with football coaches a while back. There were complaints that there weren't enough coaches of a certain race and that more should be hired.
This made me mad. My race as well as the race of the coaches doesn't matter. It's a qualification issue. If the coach of the other race was more qualified then he would have been hired. It's as simple as that.
Tell me this:
If you're on a plane flight would you want your pilot to have been hired because he/she was more qualified or because he was a minority in the field and they thought they should balance everything out? I'd pick qualification _ANYDAY_.
The hiring based on race is racism of another form -- which is exactly what they're trying to stomp out. It seems like a vicious circle to me.
This kind of relates to my previous post. At my current job we have many races. We have "minorities" and "non-minorities". I know for a fact that everyone here was hired because they were damn good in their field -- not because they needed to "balance" things out.
Anyway, this may have been a totally unrelated rambling. I just wanted to vent some steam. Hopefully no one was offended. I don't see how you could be but hey -- no offense was meant if you were:).
I can't speak for Microsoft but I know that where I am employed that there is no problem. I work in an office of about 13 - 15 people. The majority are asian but we also have whites, blacks, etc. Everyone is treated witht he same amount of respect. It's actually a great environment to be in.
I don't really have a way to test GAIM building on other machines but from the reports I've received it seems to compile fine when you disable gnome and perl support via./configure.
A lot of the crash problems have been weeded out. If you find anymore please send me some bug reports. 0.11.0pre4 was released while I was on vacation (after I finally got the server to let me upload it:-P).
Enjoy =)
By the way, We've added Jabber and Napster support as well. =).
Heh,
Sorry bud, Zilding hasn't been a member of the team for about a year now:-). I've been looking at the possiblity of an MS port but I don't know if it'll happen anytime in the near future. You never know, though.
I was just speaking generaly. I know there have been several discovered, the ones I knew about I remembered. I think I was just wondering if a new "planet" will ever be discovered -- one that causes everyone to say "Oh, we now have ten planets!" as opposed to sticking with the current nine.
This is more along the lines of what I was talking about. I would think that the odds of finding anything large past pluto would be difficult. I would imagine that anything past pluto would need to be quite small to still be caught in the orbit of our solor system. Again, I could just be blowing smoke.:-/
Haven't they discovered three or four other "planets" in the past couple years? Is this another one that will be forgotten or are they considering this one an actual planet?

I am sorry, but you are incorrect. Blocking and warning is handled _SERVER_SIDE_, not Client Side.
I'm surprised someone hasn't made a play on this topic called "Startrek Erections'

Yeah, I think the 'coaches' example was a bad one to pick :) I should have selected a better one.

Once again, I never pointed any fingers. I was merely stating some things that I personal have read/heard about.
I've been in places where racism is a very real and very scary thing. I know what it is like and to be honest with you, I've felt the wrath of it.
The bla-a-a-a-cks are wrong!
It's comments like these that make me not want to voice an opinion of any sort or join any discussions.
Have a good day.
