Having little to no experience with Photoshop i can't really do a comparisation, but there's nothing about the GIMP that jumps out at me & screams 'amateurs!' at me.
I find the menu structure sensible, and simular to the ones i've seen in simular programs, nor do i find the icons on the toolbox to be huge, the only thing i find lacking in the GIMP are actual drawing tools.
Why would you? You can download a recent version for free, in fact, it's easier to obtain a recent version then a 10 year old version.
Now, if you were to try installing a very old (10 years *is* very old) version of linux, it might be possible, assuming that Linux would use the system's BIOS to access the unknown hardware, the result would be useless though, because you'd still need to acquire a more recent kernel (the linux kernel contains the relevant drivers), and update the system to be able to retrofit the kernel into the OS.
The advantage evidently here is for Linux, because unlike Windows, you can legally & easily obtain a new CD or.iso file, and burning a new CD still is easier then slipstreaming a WinXP cd, especially if that CD pre dates SP2
If you find Ubuntu hard to use, maybe you should consider switching to Mac.
Of course, if the required tools for your job only exist & work on windows, you'd be a fool to try & use something else professionally, my machine at work also runs windows, but i wouldn't touch that system with a 10 foot barge pole once i'm in my own time, and don't get me started on all the frustrations i have when using Windows or Office.... urgh
1) IF it recognised your NIC.
2) IF Windows actually has drivers for your hardware
3) IF it actually had 'generic' drivers that work with your disk controller
A six year-old will have problems with Win7 as soon as it's 'generic' drivers crap up over new hardware, hey, just like any other OS, well i'll be damned!
BTW, given supported hardware, a six year old will have no problems installing Ubuntu neighter.
I'll bite.
I'm actually using a multi monitor setup on my Ubuntu system, don't suffer of 'driver breakage', know where to find the related documentation and have received plenty of friendly help from fellow linux users.
Why, you ask?
Because i'm not a douche, that's why.
They have features iMovie lacks, like multiple codec support, but yea, when it comes to actually editing the video, they could stand alot of improvement, that's where you can help, if you are so inclined
Well, it could be true, i've seen linux do weird things on some hardware, like kernel panics on Asus boards, but most often flashing the bios will fix that. The problem is that hardware these days gets minimal testing against windows and the rest can be damned because that's not where the money is.
Frankly, the fact linux runs on so many machines despite that is a testament to it's & the community's power.
If you really believe this then you've been exposed to very little hardware in your life. Try installing XP on a machine with a SATA controller it never heard of in it's life without slipstreaming the install cd
I did, I'm generally a nice guy, got bullied a lot in school and i wasn't afraid to get bloody, however, i never threw the first punch. It would usually come to a show off between me, the bully (or bullies) and their friends with me telling them to hit me, those stupid enough to actually do that ended up with injuries and a humiliation because they couldn't beat a kid with glasses
I always compared kids to packs of wild animals deciding on the picking order, and those that don't fit the pack get rejected, since they can't actually get rid of the unwanted kids, they pick on them until they go sit in a dark corner somewhere out of sight.
Never under estimate the influences of our animal instincts
I don't want this, i don't want this at all, i refuse to pay for a mere file download, no matter what fancy bells and wistles they add to the file. The only music i pay for is the one that comes on shiney disks (or other physical medium).
I collect (good) music, and that includes the cd's and their (physical) cover art, plus, how the hell am i going to get an MP3 signed by this or that artist at a concert?
They can add all the content in the world, i ain't buying it, and if they stop making shiney disks, well i guess i'll stop buying music alltogether
Can you be a little bit more vague then that?

But like all tools, you need to know how to wield it properly
It's the other way arround, the hardware gets tested for faults against windows, linux is secondary

There's more then just KDE out there.
Just saying....
In what way is GIMP amateurish looking?
You forgot Amiga users, there are still afew of those out there
Make unsubstantiated or wild claims & people will attack them. Such is the nature of people.
An OS is nothing more then a tool, use the one that fits your needs best. In my case that's linux, but your needs are probably different from mine.

Depends on your field of expertise, i'd say. Project Managers are also in IT, and i've seen some very 'limited' people in that role...

Slashcode is what will lead to Skynet, once all the bugs are fixed, wich luckally for us, will take a long, LONG time
grrlls? Grails? Grills? gerbils? What is this grrlls you're talking about man?!
You must have limited knowledge of metal then.... Fast != hard

Furthermore, bad will always win because good is dumb.
I see your Schwartz is as big as mine
I'm intrested in your lame settings, care to share?
