    An independent OS company depends on software vendors to produce software for their OS so they can sell it they would have to open their system interface. Then there would be clones and? $ 299 per seat (nobody pays it anyway) would come down for sure.

    And:

    If you could choose....it would lower the cost of Windows because there'd be direct competition

    There is no direct competition because the M$ software box is closed and they are doing everything to keep it that way. If the judges order would have stood up, this would have changed as well.

    Linux (or other -ixes, MAC comes to mind) better or worse than M$ Windows? Probably depends on the perspective. How long do they (M$) have a windows environment? And - have they yet gotten a simple pager (like virtual dimension in M$ world) built in - nope! A decent OS command scripting language, sure ain't a priority - maybe they got it now under Vista? File system permission mechanism - still major deadbeat under XP afaik. So - what are the M$ OS creater/maintainer's priorites? Who cares - we own the market!

    Making a distinction in classifying humans as such and such and others as not so and giving one kind more basic rights than the other makes space for all the maladies in history. Just name it: Arian race over Jews, Whites over Blacks, Jews over Muslims, Catholics over Protestants, Capitalists over Communists - the list is long, but in particular here Americans over Non-Americans.


    Maybe it's time to step back and get some perspective?

    Uh, no. That's what being under arrest means. He could have left peacefully when he was asked, but he didn't, so he had to be removed by force.

    You are incorrect, from Fox News (!) web site:

    - the student offered to leave voluntarily - and what did the police do? Heard what he was saying and give him the space to leave? Nope, react as programmed automatons without higher brain.

    This has been seen many times before (example: Rodney King) and far more often "not seen".

    I am sure there are police officers which are serene enough not to fall into this trap but many are not and get attracted to this job.

    I wonder which male human being in the same age would not have reacted in a similar fashion? Those are instinctive reactions built in human brain - flight or fight. Was he given a way out?

    Police is acting on the same level - reptilian brain. There are no human beings, only prey to be dominated by a pack.

    Deeply dysfunctional and woven into the US (or any other totalitarian) society - just look at their foreign policy.

    The reason is that companies know that making the process as hard as possible discourages others from undertaking that process.


    But not at this point (wo)/man! It's over, the judgment happened, she can collect. What she did is encouraging others, she insisted and won! Getting attorney fees back. It should scare whatever out of the RIAA if that kind of reaction takes hold. If that would be discouraging, that logic shure beats me.


    What's happening now from the RIAA end is, if it's not just some snafu causing it, pouting - getting back at the winner and in the end giving the RIAA just another ding in their image.
    Shame, shame, shame - look at them, what they are doing now!
    You think one with a spirit and persistance of Debbie Forster to take on the RIAA is discouraged by them not paying? Think again!

    A creditor who knows what they're doing can get liens on property, seize bank accounts, etc.


    Sure - but until it get to the actual act of that, there are steps to take and the deptor can turn around anytime and just put the money (including fees) on the table.

    It's harrassment, as previously mentioned. I have something like that going on with a larger company with a ridiculously small amount - they just show you the finger and have their fun with it.


    Underlying reason for this behavior? I'd say immaturity.
    Pretty much what this whole RIAA chase after small people is. Must be a bunch of brainless corporate robots "doing their job".

    Me thinks, this ChaCha may become a very big yawn after a short while && AI search optimization may be the future. Google and M$ apparently are knitting on it.

    True, a future step is to analyze moving patterns with AI, recognize deviations from normal and preemtively bring criminals to justice before they commit crimes.

    Recently, I received a questionaire from the police department to check out citizen's concerns. The language which was used in the questionaire was interesting: Repeated uses of "arresting criminals" - or similar as valuation item: not -> very important. Appeared to me they were suspecting "criminals" undiscriminately behind every bush. Looks to me one needs a certain training and frame of mind to see things in that way.

    What else is new? That M$oft is in kahuz with all kinds of 3 letter agencies is not new.

    Since Windows XP, info from your XP computer is sent out to Microsoft.com - I don't have it, so I can't report much about it, but with a decent firewall installed, many software packages "call home", repeatedly and totally without justification. One does not need to check daily for updates! Adobe on my top list.

    And - with the recent court approved installing of a sniffer on a potential suspect's computer - doing non-approved sniffer installs is probably more frequent, not even considering botnets.

    It furthers an atmosphere of fear, is not empowering and in short - sucks!

    Not quite - follow the hunger for power and technological surpremacy.

    You can surely bet on that any potential superior technology of the UFO caliber (high speed, apparent managment of gravital forces, abundant energy source) becoming in some form available to an entity (government, military), going to be so locked away and tinkered with under highest secrecy/security measures.

    Also - in case something like that happened (getting hands on technology) and being unable to replicate or control it, the shameful admission of: Uups! that's beyond us can be avoided.

    And - just taking the slightest chance of what happened on this planet (life in some forms) could be happening somewhere else and multiply this by the number of planets circling all the suns in all galaxies, you probably come up with a chance of much greater than 100 %.

    What probably happens, if such entities exist and are able to see from closer what happens here - it's probably: Ugh! - let's just not get our fingers dirty and check back in 1000 years to see what's left.
